Dr. Dean Ornish is considered the father of lifestyle medicine, pioneering programs that can reverse life-threatening illness with a combination of a plant-based diet, moderate exercise, meditation and therapy.
Dean and I have known each other for over 40 years, dating back to our time together at Massachusetts General Hospital. Then, Dean’s ideas were considered outlandish. Today, we’re finding they may be the key to treating even our most challenging diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Dean is a cardiologist, the founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute, and a bestselling author. I haven’t been able to put down his latest book, “UnDo It! How Simple Lifestyle Changes Can Reverse Most Chronic Diseases,” which he coauthored with his wife Anne.

I agree with the previous comment. Neither Dr. Collin Campbell nor Dr Ornish , have been nominated for Nobel Prize. They should have…. Amazing contributions to Humanity!!! 💕🤗😘👍

Very good point that Ornish’s incredibly important research on reversing clogged arteries should be considered for the Nobel Prize. Not to mention on reversing prostate cancer and lengthening telomeres.

I had my first heart attack nearly three years ago. I had three blockages including one in the LAD, which they could not stent because they couldn't get through it after two attempts within a week. They sent me home with the usually meds, and intended to try again after 90 days. After three weeks at home, the chest pains came back with a vengeance, I couldn't walk up my stairs without a nitro, waking up at night having to take nitro. I was made. aware of what a plant-based diet could do, went to Sprouts and bought a load of the proper foods, (I was popping nitro to get through the store), I immediately stopped all forms of meat and dairy including eggs that very day which was a Friday, and by Sunday, I was totally pain free, and could walk through a store without needing nitro. That was in November of 2019, nearly three years later, and I never felt so good. I am living proof that what Dr. Ornish (and others) worked so hard to discover, prove, and promote absolutely can change our lives so thank you for the amazing info.

So .. what he says? .. is possible to reverse a artery coronary clogged .. which now has a stent already.. only with plants based diet.. without any medication? I am male 54 , for 17 months I have a stent , I stopped all medication after first week and I replaced them with plants based diet only. So far I am feeling good.

Good for you for making positive, healthy choices! Please speak with your doctor before stopping your medications. Your cardiac stent requires certain medications to prevent a clot from forming. I hope you continue your good habits! Good luck

@@julie2x thank you for your advice Julie, but my cardiologist advised me to take medication at least 2 times per week and I said “ No “ . I have had a nutritionist who advised me to follow Mediterranean diet along with medication, about plants based diet she has no idea. She told me that all the diets can help just 10-20 percent. I chosen a new nutritionist and she was the same like first, Mediterranean diet + drugs. Probably here in Denmark 🇩🇰 where I live they have a rule, law that all doctors follow it . Do you have same situation like me Julie? Thank you 🙏

@@julie2x i keep strictly wfpb no oil, no nut, no processed food, if i am doing bread.. I grind myself whole white grains and instead of yeast I use fermented apple juice. I hope I am doing a good job, but I can’t see inside of my body to say how are my arteries. I am on 18 months now after I placed the stent, and 1 year on plants based diet.

@@gabriel65304 What where your symptoms, where was the stent placed, how much blockage, how soon after you started the diet did you feel better? I know iim asking a lot of questions, but I’m impressed with your results and don’t want keep going back and forth with my questions. Thank you.

@@captainadams7569 my symptoms were: I couldn’t run more than 100-200 meters, LAD artery was clogged 100 % the doctors said, I followed medication only one week after stent placed then I followed ( like a blind) keto diet which increased my total cholesterol 340, LDL 274 and then I discovered dr Esselstyn and Dean Ornish . So .. recapitulation:after stent placed I followed 2 month vegetarian diet, then I started keto diet only 2 months, then I started wfpb until today. So , wfpb diet I started around 4-5 months after I placed the stent. I don’t remember exactly when I start to feel better but every month I was feeling better, mostly after 3 months, and then after after 9 months ( the greatest shape) But also in almost 17 months of plants based diet since I started I felt discomfort in the back, pain in the left shoulder and left hand, dizziness, numb left palm. These symptoms appeared for about 1-2 weeks and disappeared. But when it comes to running, I can run a lot now without feeling chest pressure like before the stent. I would not want to do a CT scan because I heard that these procedures are not healthy. A very important thing: since I had the stent put in, my hands are cold almost all the time, immediately after the stent was put in, even though I was also taking statins and aspirin. I think that I have cold hands sometimes just because I have the stent in my heart.

I don't understand why anyone would think that going without fat would make the brain well when the brain is made of fat. Sixty percent fat and twenty percent cholesterol. There really isn't much room for nerves etc. Cholesterol is wrapped around every cell in the body except the red blood cells and you can't get it from any vegetable.

Why would anyone go very low in fat? This is what the world has been doing for forty years while we've been getting sicker and sicker. Our brain is sixty percent fat and twenty percent cholesterol. Why would you starve it?

When you make these changes it has nothing whatever to do with the fact that you've taken meat off the plate. You've taken sugar and other junk food off the plate and all sorts of sugary foods and drinks out of your your diet. Meat and fish don't have sugar in them in fact your diet is deficient in a lot of good things that meat and fish are loaded with. You sir are still eating some forms of junk food. Eating meat and fat with fish like salmon and eggs can reverse diseases like type 2 diabetes and fatty liver which continues on to cause heart disease, blindness and a lot of mental illness, obesity and many other illnesses. All you have to do is give up the junk food and sugary foods.
