In this video, Australian orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gary Fettke outlines the junk science that shapes our nutrition guidelines.
Fettke’s presentation was part of CrossFit’s 2017 Health Conference, held Aug. 2 at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.
“I put my balls on the line today. … By continuing to speak out on the topic of nutrition, I am at risk of losing my registration as an orthopedic surgeon,” Fettke tells a crowd of more than 400.
Fettke recommends a “low-carb, healthy-fat” diet, which he says is in line with CrossFit’s recommendation to eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
“I feel that the combination of fructose, refined carbohydrate and polyunsaturated oils is toxic, inflammatory and at the root cause of all disease that we look at,” he says.
But because of his dietary recommendations, Fettke has been reported to Australia’s medical board, much like Dr. Tim Noakes was attacked for challenging the establishment in South Africa. (Noakes also spoke at the Aug. 2 conference.)
“The board have determined that it is inappropriate for me to let people know how to reverse Type 2 diabetes,” Fettke explains. Nevertheless, he says, “The message is too important to be silenced.”
During his talk, which is equal parts biology lesson and food-industry history, Fettke speaks out against the ideological misinformation and vested interests that have corrupted how we eat.
“With the right education,” he says, “my patients can be helped. The system can also be helped, and so can the environment and the planet.”

Coming to America from the UK, I was blown away by the amount of sugar in all foods and drinks, the horrid thing they call bread, and the complete lack of fiber in the foods sold in the aisles of supermarkets. The food industry, along with their lobbyists are hell bent on killing people through addiction. All GPs and Doctors I’ve met are more interested in their bank balance than curing people.

When I finished watching Gary, I read the comments and of course a bunch of on-duty vegans appeared proving Gary's point. Well done! I'd like to put here some thoughts of other people commenting on article about Gary's talk. 'Funny, I ate an Ornish-style high carb low fat grain based vegan diet over 40 years ago and it made me ill. I continued eating HCLF based on “healthy” wheat and “vegetable” oils and my health continued to decline. A dietician made it decline much more rapidly. I’ve spent the last twelve years now eating LCHF and pretty much everything has reversed if not normalised, and I’ve also come off all my meds except for a minimal dose of BP meds, and Carbimazole for my thyroid (autoimmune I’m told). If I’d known, I could have done this MUCH earlier, as could the millions of others whose health is in decline thanks to current dogma. Nothing against YOU eating vegan, my beef is with the Militants who want to see their dogma imposed on everyone else irrespective of the outcomes, which looks like a done deal via the WHO and others. (In fact I eat a vegan diet with my meat, poultry, game and fish just like Gary - that works.) My other beef is with the arrant nonsense like meat, or eggs, “causing” diabetes, fat “causing” CVD etc. If that was going to happen we would have become extinct millennia ago. If you want to find the “causes” of modern disease “epidemics” you need to look at what has changed recently. There’s a LOT of science actually doing this despite all the dogma ranged against it.' (...)'it’s never about science when the plant-based religion gets involved. Most meat where I am comes from pasture-fed animals who spend most of their lives in open fields, converting grass into protein. It’s far more ethical than monoculture crop production maintained with pesticides. The millions of small creatures crushed and mown down in crop production somehow don’t count. Maybe they’re not cuddly enough. A vegan colleague long ago told me that she had no interest in improving animal welfare because she thought it was a distraction from the end goal of banning meat consumption. The Sunday Times made the same point last week.'

Vegan here -By acknowledging people disagree with you doesn't shield you from their criticism(s). Of course the Dieticians are going to be in bed with 'Big [Insert Food] Involvement'. That's capitalism. Plant production has as much to do with Meat industry, etc, they're all in bed together. Veganism is perfectly healthy, it's a dietician consensus, now there are caveats to that, like making sure you consume enough Omega-3s and B12 and calories. Sad to hear about your health issues, glad you've got it sorted out now. I don't think Veganism should be forced on everyone. For lots of people it's simply not economically or geographically fiesable. There's lots of learning that's got to be done, so it's not for the time poor either. Sadly, there just isn't enough money or space for people to eat 'ethical free-range' meat.

As an advanced nutrition expert undergraduate, all science shows vegan/vegetarian/plant-based to be unhealthy, causing malnutrition and not solving any health problems. What solves it for a short time is the exclusion of highly processed foods filled with refined sugars and flour. In long-term, they begin suffering diseases like leukemia (Pritikin died of his own nonsense diet...) colon cancer, and other diseases excess fiber and vitamin deficiencies cause like pernicious anemia - prevalent among militant vegans. In greater studies, adding fruits and vegetables to the diet had zero effect, but in other studies, removing plants had a positive, reviving effect without nutrient deficiency. There is no plant form of vitamin B12, or vitamin A and D, and vitamin K2 is superior but vitamin K does not convert enough to K2 to be of any benefit to the body - and it's essential to the human body. Plant forms of iron, zinc, copper, and other minerals are horrifically inferior and are not easily absorbed nor converted to the proper type. There's even more on this, and humans are simply not meant to be pure herbivore. Fun fact: no such thing as a vegan in reality. Humans are the only animals dumb enough to try it. Herbivores in the wild supplement with meat all the time, living or dead, and they love it. Humans can live on pure organ meats, but never pure plant. We are not equipped with the physiological systems essential in herbivore activity, and our digestive systems, gall bladder as one of the greatest indicators, points to a high-animal-fat diet - which is also supported by scientific study into LCHF diets causing reversal of diseases like MS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, autism, epilepsy, cancer, diabetes, et cetera, ad nosium. This is not contested, because it is solid science - vegetarian has, over and over, been proven to be dangerous. I am a survivor of vegetarian, and having a near death experience from malnutrition then being told I'm stupid for eating meat is asinine considering all the science behind why it's insane and just a religious cult following which caused the obesity and disease epidemic. Vegans ignore all of this science and like good little cultists following Ellen White and John Harvey Kellogg into the world of declining sex drive using pseudoscience that doesn't even exist. Thank you, Skues56, for posting that, and for your comment.

Check out the blue zones around the world, one thing in common is a high carb diet. Carbs are not the big enemy, it's the refinement that is. Keeping the carbs/grains as unadulterated as possible and organic is the key. One thing not talked about here also that is very important is the glyphosate on most non organic grains which has a big impact over time. Pretty much most if not all highly processed breads have traces of glyphosate. The KISS ( keep it simple stupid ) approach to food is very important. Great to hear someone talking about the toxicity of processed oils too.

@hadavisjr 2 жыл бұрын
The Blue Zones have been debunked many times over via peer reviewed literature. This matter is part of the greater agenda by Seventh-day Adventism and their satanic understanding of what the Bible says about nutrition and health; thus, they research and study (tongue planted firmly in cheek), so to prove their deluded prophetess's visions correct. (By the way, they weren't...they were only a repeat of Dr. J.H. Kellogg's beliefs.)

Actually the Seventh Day Adventist Church has been split for some time. Although the majority are still firmly vegetarian, a smaller group has adopted a low carb diet which includes meat. Both strongly advocate organic food and exercise. I have been to health retreats run by both groups. I must say they all looked very healthy. However one person the traditional vegetarian group did try to push their religion and I left early because I felt it was a bit ‘cult’ like. The other group were amongst the nicest most authentic people I’ve ever met, but not once talked about religion.

@annoyedaussie3942
@annoyedaussie3942 Жыл бұрын
@@toni4729 Low fat yoghurt may or may not be loaded with sugar, it's recommended that people don't eat any sugar and has been the same recommendations from about the same point in time as the saturated fat recommendations. The fact that food manufacturers marketed something in a certain way successfully just like coca cola has exactly 0 to do with recommendations which everyone wants to blame especially the high fat mob and even Lustig acknowledged that reductions in consumption of saturated fats did reduce heart disease. He just points out that people have increased sugar consumption whilst misleading people to believe fat consumption has decreased and it simply hasn't it's decreased about 1% as a proportion of total energy intake which is a 15% increase in real terms. It's what are now referred to as ultra processed food that's the problem and if you look at Australian guidelines this should be no more than 10% of the diet, it's over 40% in Australia and over 50% in the US outright junk food consumption which is high in fat , sugar and or refined carbohydrates like white bread. All these products are to blame, reducing sugar in favor of fried chicken which has no sugar won't make things better. The cereals which existed in the 70s and we'll before are still the same actually, however I have a strong suspicion weetbix has reduced market share in favor of coco pops as an example. Wheatbix is low in sugar, only 3% and fairly high in protein, over 12%. America eat the most fat on the planet and going by your theory they should all be skinny because fat consumption can't possibly end up on ones body.

What health markers are you talking about? My cholesterol numbers--if they matter at all--are fantastic--Total 162, HDL 63, LDL 86 and triglycerides 64. My elevated blood pressure is controlled with diuretics. I have no history of heart attacks. I said that from my understanding there isn't a single study out there that shows any longevity benefit to my taking statins. But if he can show me such a study I will consider taking them. And if not I can show him several that show the contrary. He didn't want to discuss it further and put in his notes that he recommended statins to cover his ass.

The way you test if a vision is of God is whether or not it contradicts the word of God revealed. Ms White apparently wasn't aware of this or else had no fear of God herself, because while claiming biblical authority, she did contradict the Noahic covenant that he received here: Genesis 9:1-4 (KJV) 1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

And when you go far enough into the arctic, the eskimos only have fish to eat. Even the lauded mediterranean diet has meat made up of decent amounts of fish .. and pig (non-ruminant, non-red animals). In average it should be divided equally not that way it is today 60% of carbs. So all we ask for is the truth to be told.

In the US we subsidize the meat industry and grains which are used to feed live stock. The 7thday Adventist are the healthiest longest living population in the US and are actually a blue zone. Processed foods harm meat or plant. Meat consumption uses up more land water causes dead zones. Eat organic meat if anything

Very disappointed in his statement," cows eat grass" We know that "grass fed beef" is a rare thing and most of our beef is NOT eating grass. They are fed grains... that changes this equation largely

They do here in Australia, 90-99% of their life is spent on grass, only a short time is spent on grain to “finish” the quality of the meat. There are entire lines of product that are grass fed for 100% of their life.

I'm sorry but speaking as an x-cotton, & soybean farmer, most all the things you are saying on our crop lands is just not feasible to do. You just can't cut production back on a large scale and expect to make a living. And yes, growing crops depletes the soil. The plant takes up the nutrients each growing season and then the ground must be fertilize each yr with specific minerals. Sorry but this cannot really be changed easily. The USA farmer is on welfare from the government and you seem to think farming can be changed over night? You are way off base here and out of your league.

Soy, wheat, rice, corn, all grains that are made into oils and margarines. Millions and millions of acres of it. Millions of gallons of pesticides dumped on that garbage every year and it's poisoning us all because the stuff is in our food. What's more, it's in our rivers, and seas, and it's costing billions of dollars to pull water up from a mile underground now to water that crap. Not to mention sugar.

@@jnewgot de novo lipogenesis happens. Carbs, which are largely sugars, turned to fat and stored. This also raises one's lipid-panel triglycerides which is a bad thing. Chronic consumption of excess carbs - the norm in the USA these days - prevents that body fat from ever being burned. So people get fat and stay that way. burnfatnotsugar.com
