I didn't watch the segment to see if this was mentioned, but during the MLK speech the commercial borrowed from, MLK actually warned his audience against spending too much money on a vehicle. For some reason, Dodge didn't include that part in the ad yesterday.

TheRhinehart86 no it shouldn't be race based it should be relevant to the truck and its capabilities, go grab a sound bite from a music song to support your race bait bullshit, But leave MLK jr to Civil rights, understanding cultures and Expanding the tolerance of mankind... Not profiteering off of his words like greedy ass vultures.. That goes for you too Al Sharpton

But look at the attention it gives to the B-L-M raised issues. Besides, even if MLK's progeny didn't want the quote used, how could they have stopped it? Let them take the money and run, even if it is white money. MLK's work is worth it and more.

Sad to say I had never heard Dr. Kings speech in it's entirety and to hear the context...My goodness, it's borderline criminal for Dodge to sanitize and truncate this great Americans words for profit. This needs to be covered in the contemporary news media

As a white person born in 1962 i was exposed to racism lucky for me i was left to raise myself at an early age. With tv Archie Bunker and good times the Jeffersons and Hollywood’s attempt to show the white people how wrong it is to see skin colour as a fault . Raised in a very white community had no chance to interact with different ethnicities but because of the series roots open my eyes and blazing saddles showed me though humer how absurd racism is .finally Brians song show me as an impressionable youth how wrong my early teachings where when we judge based on our vision it is subject to what we where taught. The actions of people better express what there values are history has many examples to learn from . Never pre judge .Just one mans opinion

Update, 10:01 p.m. Slate received this statement from Eric D. Tidwell, the managing director of Intellectual Properties Management, Inc., which is the “exclusive licensor” of the estate of Martin Luther King, Jr.: When Ram approached the King Estate with the idea of featuring Dr. King’s voice in a new “Built To Serve” commercial, we were pleasantly surprised at the existence of the Ram Nation volunteers and their efforts. We learned that as a volunteer group of Ram owners, they serve others through everything from natural disaster relief, to blood drives, to local community volunteer initiatives. Once the final creative was presented for approval, it was reviewed to ensure it met our standard integrity clearances. We found that the overall message of the ad embodied Dr. King’s philosophy that true greatness is achieved by serving others. Thus we decided to be a part of Ram’s “Built To Serve” Super Bowl program.
