From Don Kirchner Rock Concert 1976
Album: "A Little Bit More"
Utgitt: 1976
"A Little Bit More" is a song written and performed by Bobby Gosh, released on his 1973 album Sitting in the Quiet. The first hit version was recorded by the band Dr. Hook; their version was released as a single in 1976. It charted at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and spent two weeks at number nine on the Cash Box Top 100. It reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. It was Dr. Hook's joint second-best UK chart placing, matching "Sylvia's Mother" and surpassed only by "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman".
***
Dr. Hook & the Medi cine Show (shortened to Dr. Hook in 1975) was an American rock band, formed in Union City, New Jersey. They enjoyed considerable commercial success in the 1970s with hit singles including "Sylvia's Mother", "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" (both 1972), "Only Sixteen" (1975), "A Little Bit More" (1976), "Sharing the Night Together" (1978), "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" (1979), "Better Love Next Time" (1979), and "Sexy Eyes" (1980). In addition to their own material, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show performed songs written by the poet Shel Silverstein.

Lyrics: When your body's had enough of me And I'm layin' flat out on the floor When you think I've loved you all I can I'm gonna love you a little bit more Come on over here and lay by my side I've got to be touchin' you Let me rub your tired shoulders The way I used to do Look into my eyes and give me that smile The one that always turns me on And let me take your hair down 'Cause we're stayin' up to greet the sun And when your body's had enough of me And I'm layin' flat out on the floor When you think I've loved you all I can I'm gonna love you a little bit more Got to say a few things that have been on my mind And you know where my mind has been I guess I learned my lessons And now's the time to begin So if you're feelin alright and you're ready for me I know that I'm ready for you We better get it on now 'Cause we got a whole life to live through And when your body's had enough of me And I'm layin' flat on the floor When you think I've loved you all I can I'm gonna love you a little bit more And when your body's had enough of me And I'm layin' flat out on the floor

I used to sing this song to my sweetheart back in the 70s, and on for years and years after we were married. I lost her 2 months ago after a lengthy illness. When she was at her worst times in the hospital, I would crawl up onto the bed beside her and sing this and other old love songs. At first, it was almost like magic, as she would get better and amaze the doctors and nurses. As a physician myself, I have seen many things turn patients around, albeit sometimes only briefly. Music was sometimes the strongest medicine. Regardless, after 8 months, she finally passed away with me holding her hand. I still love the old songs, but while they bring back many good memories, they also refresh my mind with the realization that I won't see her until my time comes. I am going to repeat her last words, I love you baby.

I am so sorry to know of your loss. When I hear this song and several like it from that era, my mind goes right back there... my husband is a singer and musician , yet never sings at home, :(, but the songs Ive heard him sing on stage still echo and our love of 50 plus years is as powerful and love portrayed in this music.

@@lynneperry9978 Sorry if I made your cry, and I do thank you for your empathy. We were together for 47 years and 15 days including the 5 months and 29 days of dating prior to becoming husband and wife. A whirlwind romance that lasted when others said it wouldn't. People like to say the loss of a loved one gets better with time. It does not. I miss her more and more each and every day.

One of the regrets about getting older is, as much as you cherished the '70s music back in the day, and after seeing the degradation of things today, listening to these songs again takes you back to a better place where you can cherish them "A Little Bit More".

@@davinastanton3865 - I've found that the hard part of getting old is seeing friends and loved ones pass on. I truly believe that it's they who keep you going both physically and mentally. Without them, you slow down and find yourself in a more secluded world. I too am 66. Inside, I'm still as energetic as I was 40 years ago. But the batteries aren't as fresh as they once were, and the mechanism works a little slower.

I saw my last close friend pass in 2013. He was no relation, but he was "family" and always introduced me to his friends as "his son". As he was lying on his deathbed, he called and wanted to borrow $75 from me. I gave it to him without hesitation, knowing I'd never get it back (I still tear up when I think about this). After he died and was cremated, I drove down to bring his ashes back so they could be spread along the river he once lived next to - and behind the restaurant where we would spend hours on end drinking coffee with friends - all of whom have passed on as well. I'm the only one left, and it gets lonely at times. I still have family, but most live in other states. I have one brother that I see as often as I can, but that's all. Other friends wonder why I don't find someone to hang out with again. I don't think they understand that there are "friends" and there are "friends". The current friends I have I don't see every day - they're not that "close" and no matter how I try, I can't get that close to them. No one will ever be as close as the friends I loved and miss.

I play a little guitar and so does my son. One day he said that he could tell the difference between our generations, being that I played a lot of "happy" chords like C, D and G, where he plays rather grungy, angry, power chords. I am so glad I grew up in the Dr. Hook era of "happy" music rather than the rap and seemingly depressing music of today. I wouldn't trade my music for anything that passes for "music" today! Thank you, Ray and Dennis and the multitude of real songwriters from the golden age of rock!

@@davidnovatka3346 Oh I totally got what he was "promising" her. It is cringy and the opposite of sexy. Whenever women get together and the topic of "worst song ever" comes up I win every single time with this song. I told my college age daughter that this was the worst song ever written and against my advice she insisted on hearing it. So I bet her she couldn't make it to the end. She hates losing a bet especially to me. Seconds into the song she said, "It's not that baa....her voice trailed off as she listened. Her her face fill with revulsion and she said, "Ewe gross turn it off. I mean it. Turn it off now." She preferred vacuuming and swiffering the entire 6K sq foot house to listening to the rest of the song. I have gotten that reaction from every woman for whom I have played the song. Some have heard the song and never listened but they have the same reaction. Men might think it is a sexy thing to say to a woman but it just isn't. A friend of mine who is funny as hell once told me her husband once said, "Tonight I am going to take my time." Oh gross. Not sexy at all. She was mean to tell me that but we did laugh. He is a really nice guy, super handsome, tall, well built too, and really all that but that line was just cringy.
