Carry Me, Carrie" is the third single by American country rock band Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, released in 1972. It appeared on the group's second album, Sloppy Seconds.
Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show (shortened to Dr. Hook in 1975) was an American rock band, formed in Union City, New Jersey. They enjoyed considerable commercial success in the 1970s with hit singles including "Sylvia's Mother", "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" (both 1972), "Only Sixteen" (1975), "A Little Bit More" (1976), "Sharing the Night Together" (1978), "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" (1979), "Better Love Next Time" (1979), and "Sexy Eyes" (1980). In addition to their own material, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show performed songs written by the poet Shel Silverstein.
The band had eight years of regular chart hits in the United States, where their music was played on top-40, easy listening, and country music outlets, and throughout the English-speaking world including the UK, Canada and South Africa. Their music spanned several genres, mostly novelty songs and acoustic ballads in their early years, though their greatest success came with their later material, mostly consisting of disco-influenced soft rock, which the band recorded under the shortened name Dr. Hook.

LYRICS: Second Street and Broadway Sittin' in a doorway Head held in his hands Looked to all the world Like he was prayin' Foot wrapped in old rag Bottle in a brown bag I saw him trying to stand Then I heard the words that he was sayin' He said Come on, Carrie Carry me a little farther Come on, Carrie Carry me one more mile I don't know where it's leadin' to But I know I can make it if I lean on you So come on, Carrie Carry me a little I carried you, now carry me a little Come on, Carrie, carry me a little while Well he struggled to his feet And staggered down the street To the window of a five and dime He stood and laughed a while, at his reflection And then I heard him shoutin' Something 'bout a mountain He could surely climb If she was only there To point, the right direction But she ain't, no, but she ain't, no He said Come on, Carrie Carry me a little farther Come on, Carrie Carry me one more mile I don't know where it's leadin' to But I know I can make it if I lean on you So come on, Carrie Carry me a little I carried you, now carry me a little Come on, Carrie Carry me a little while, yeah Carry me, Carrie Carry me, yeah Carry me, Carrie Carrie, carry me You got to carry me You got to carry me Carry me, Carrie Carry me, Carrie You got to carry me You got to carry me

It is a beautiful song, and these guys did it justice. They didn't get enough credit as artists back in the 70's. Most of these guys are gone now, but I am betting it would be special to all of them to know your father thought so much of their music. Your namesake is one of their best in my opinion. Carry on Carrie

That just shows the talent. I grew up listening to these guys because of my parents. Look at this scene. These guys are wrecked. And they're having a great time goofing off. Yet, the moment it comes to the music, it's all seriousness. It was always fun and games with these boys until the moment they started performing. They matured as people and as a band. And their serious music is as good as it gets. I always felt they were criminally underrated as a band.

I wanted to say these videos of Dr. Hook on Shel Silverstein's houseboat are some of may favorites. Growing up in the 70's I ran across people like this. I wish it was like this again instead of today -- worrying about all the endless crap the world seems to throw at us everyday - no cable, no internet, no 24 hours of news and politics -- just hanging out with a few friends and having fun!

Love me some Dr. Hook. My husbands favorite band. We went to a couple concerts in Blaine, WA. at a biker bar. It was awesome, except I had a few too many drinks, and when Ray Sawyer asked my husband to come back to the motel and party, he had to tell the man (his idol) Sorry sir, but you see that little gal puking over the guard rail, well, that is my wife...I gotta take her home. I have never lived that one down!!!

They made you feel the pain of infection in a leg no rest out in the cold desperat for a little releife. Yeah I could feel the man's pain. That's how to live the story folks. Protools can't do that for you! Now days they're laying down 150 to 250 tracks per sang tuning the crap out of it and well.....there ya go. So sad when you've started re ording in the 70s when you had 24 tracks to pull it off. Lol most the time we had many tracks left over when finished. I degress....great post,I needed that!
