I think Dr. LaPook expressed himself a bit unclearly on that last question, so let me just clarify: serum with antibodies from people who have recovered could possibly be useful for people who currently are infected and ill, the antibodies in that serum fighting the virus as soon as they enter your bloodstream. But antibodies degenerate pretty quickly if you don't have your own immune cells to replenish the stock, so that serum wouldn't grant you immunity for any extended period of time, it doesn't function as a vaccine because antibodies don't train your immune cells to produce that antibody, only the antigens from the actual virus will do that, that's why we still need the vaccine.
@josephinman4623

I've been trying to explain that for a while but people don't seem to catch on to the concept that the antigens in plasma are impermanent.

Looking back, they must have done a Caronavirus blood test. All my caregivers were in full PPE until the test results came back negative and I was not contagious. After IV antibiotics thankfully got me out of the danger zone, I was sent home with oral antibiotics. Thank God that I got through this safely before things got worse. 🙏🏼

Some caveats. The SARS vaccines were never actually approved as the virus went away before widespread testing was done. We don't know whether they worked on SARS, we don't know whether they had serious side effects. We also don't know whether they would give the same type of immunity as surviving the SARS virus gave, which was temporary (only 2 to 3 years). MERS immunity is even shorter, despite being a far deadlier virus.

The crazy thing is, other countries are questioning the WHO and their closeness with China. Canada is, especially the premier of Ontario. Anonymous released a video about it as well. But I personally am on the fence, it's such an important role when implemented properly. Check out Pandemic on Netflix it follows a WHO team treating Ebola in Africa and the pandemic response team that Trump disbanded. It's difficult to watch bc everything they predict is happening, but it's informed and realistic

@jessn.3851
@jessn.3851 4 жыл бұрын
Not everybody develops enough antibodies to prevent reinfection. Some people get chicken pox multiple times and never become immune. It's the same for vaccines, they can't protect everyone to the same extent because it depends on that person's immune response. That's why even if everyone gets an illness and recovers or everyone gets vaccinated, a virus can still infect people and spread around. And that's not counting the silent carriers who gained immunity without symptoms but continue to shed the virus.

Since quarantine has started, the replacement antibodies that I get or Immunoglobulin are getting rarer and rarer because people don't like going out and donating during quarantine. Meaning my already rare and lifesaving medication, becomes rarer so go out and donate because I need it. Look up CVID it's actually very interesting to have.

He said No to the question about transfusing blood with antibodies into someone to give them protection, but he then somewhat then contradicted himself. In fact, doing that is almost certain to provide a decent degree of immunity, just not for a very long period of time. (as Krystof Dayne explains further in their comment)

So if you “get” plasma w antibodies from wherever do you then not need a vaccine? My opinion, it’d be nice/helpful if more testing was available. Thx for info LaPook

There is a flaw in his explanation of take out food...he's only addressing contaminated containers. What I want to know is if that lettuce (for example) in the food contaminated with the virus? Obviously, preparing your own food is the best and safest way to avoid infection.

He is just honest. Can be difficult to understand if your culture is based on saying false things like niceties and compliments, even when you don´t mean it. Medical professionals are constantly trying to fit what is needed with what is available, within the limits of knowledge as well.

@@meomarte Your comment makes no sense. What he said is called "malpractice". You aren't supposed to give people untested medicine. It is completely unethical and dangerous.
