My nine year old Shih Tzu has CHF. Last summer, the vet told me she had about six months. Lungs were always filling up, horrible coughing and hacking that would scare me so badly. I once had to rush her in for oxygen. Her tongue was turning blue! I was terrified of losing her as I had lost my husband less than a year prior. Fast forward to now: The last four visits, her lungs are completely clear. Her CHF has not progressed. The vet looked at me. He was so excited. He said "Her lungs are clean as a whistle! Keep doing whatever you're doing!" It's all down to me feeding her a raw diet. I get her food from a local holistic doggy shop. Goat milk is also amazing for dogs. I recently just added beef heart, and she's doing even better! More energy and I can play with her and she not start hacking after one toss of her toy. She's actually getting nutrition, you know? And boy does she gobble it up! I did ask God, during that time, "Show me what to do for Lulu. I'm not ready to lose her." He showed up. :)

@@judymorgan4241 my dog has glomerular disease and mitral valve disease (murmur & arrhythmia). He has been put on Enalapril and Vetmedin. I think the enalapril may have given him pancreatitis. I have been looking into the Five Leaf botanicals for the heart and kidneys. Is that protocol a good alternative to those meds? I’d like to wean him off at least the enalapril but maybe even both if possible. Hawthorn is part of the protocol and I’ve heard it can be a good alternative for both kidney and heart health. I want to heal him rather than just managing symptoms like traditional meds. I don’t know how to wean him off the enalapril so I may wait till I speak with my integrative vet but I just wanted to get an opinion on the efficacy of the Five Leaf botanical protocols and the potential for phasing out traditional meds for these natural supplements.

good morning Judy, my Roscoe is 2 years into CHF but is doing really well. he's on 5 different meds, has been eating raw and I have been giving him supplements too. But he's started losing his hearing so I did some research on his meds and lo and behold I was horrified to read that the furosemide can cause loss of hearing in dogs. So that's why I wanted to slowly ease him into your heart healthy diet. I would love to ween him off the furosemide and have discussed it with his vet and he gave me the ok. what do you think about that decision?

All meat in this recipe should be served raw. Practice safe food handling techniques including washing of hands before and after handling raw meat. After cutting raw meats, wash all surfaces with hot, soapy water. We recommend pre-portioning and freezing any extra food you don't plan to feed after 72 hours. Frozen food is best offered up to 3 months after freezing for optimal nutrition.
