My g.p.'s assistent had it prescribed for me, she probably could get a bonus for it😠 I was told she and the g.p. thought a needed an antagonist and this was it, absolutely! I checked the internet for the list with side effects and was absolutely shocked! I called the doctor's office to cancel the prescription but got stonewalled, Iwas told everybody was busy and I could not be put through to the g.p. or this assistant. I then called the pharmacy and canceled it there. This medicine is very dangerous and for me, 75 kilo's and 1m78, totally useless.Better are daily walks with the family dog, riding a bike for the groceries and working out on a hometrainer in the living room while watching t.v.,i.o.w. doing everything but stuffing your face.

I've taken it with much success, I was class 3 obese (the fattest on the chart)... I've been a yo-yo dieter my whole life and 10+ years of working in offices and being sedentary the pounds just piled on. I had high blood pressure, CPAP, constant back/knee pain. I had to get spine surgery in 2021 which gave me a horrible infection which almost killed me. That was all 100% from being fat. I own my mistake though...nobody put those burgers and all that garbage in my mouth but me. In my case I feel strongly that it was worth the risk. 6'4" tall I went from 315 to 185 and 42 waist to 32 waist. I also completely changed my relationship with food, I read the nutrition label on everything before eating it. I count macros now & exercise 5 days a week. As a result of losing all the weight my T levels have surged and I feel absolutely awesome I literally cannot sit still. I've been on both sides of the health spectrum and I will never ever go back. Been off it for a couple of months now, it requires work & discipline. The same way it would with any other diet. I do 100% agree with him though, people looking to lose a few pounds should not do this. Risk vs Reward.

As a person with diabetes whose blood sugars could not be controlled by 3 medications, I have added Ozempic as well. With one box (6 doses) my blood sugar levels and other indicators on blood tests improved dramatically. Then stock became unavailable in Australia - but the 6 weeks of Ozempic made a serious impact on my blood markers that remained for months. It was a horrible experience of nausea, reflux, and extreme bloating. I already have gastro paresis (slow stomach emptying). Ozempic slows it down even more. I have accessed it again now. I am in extreme discomfort - but given this is not for vanity, I am enduring it. The titration steps are the worst. Maybe things will settle down. Thanks for interviewing Dr Hyman. I think it really depends on the person and the situation. I'm looking to lose about 50 lbs. I was an athlete through my childhood, high school, and some of college. Used to eating whatever I want and either not gain any weight or sometime even lose weight when in season. As I got older and more sedentary, the weight slowly started to pile on. Over the last few years though, while my weight has fluctuated about 10 lbs or so, it hasn't gone up past a certain point. So for me, I'm considering it as a short-term assist to initially lower my weight. Will I gain some of it back after I stop? Probably. But I think I will still be able to keep myself weighing considerably less, as I have been able to keep myself at a relatively consistent weight now -- it's losing larger amounts of weight over a long period of time that has been the struggle. As with any drug though, it's not a miracle, and there are always side effects and consequences to consider, so I don't take considering it lightly.

Australia. I am a type 2 diabetic, was put on this late last year. Quite often cannot fill my prescription as not enough available. Have travelled up to 2 hours away to get it filled and had to go through 100 questions to get it via the chemist. (Which was fine) the chemist refused to put it aside until we could drive to the chemist, so could well have turned up to find it no longer available . We will not do this (travel distances) to get this script filled again, the fuel cost is crap, so we can’t afford to do this sort of running around. We do not eat processed foods, haven’t done so for 20 plus years. Grow our own veg, eat little mea, try to balance our diet. My doc has been great, explained possible side effects, I have checks every month, found I wasn’t drinking enough water, so have bumped that up and found tests results improved massively. (I have only two cups of instant coffee a day, 1 cup of tea, rest of the time water). Every time I go to the toilet, I have a 200ml glass of water to ensure my kidney function is optimumised. Constipation is a problem, so I have all bran and prunes each mid morning, as brunch, occasionally I may have a cup of home made soup for mid arvo and then a proper meal of a night, small portion of protein and veg or salad. I have lost a huge amount of weight, over 40 kg, so now I have options open to me to have knee surgery done, which will allow me to walk more and hopefully pain free, then I hope I can drop the Ozempic, as I should be able to maintain the diet and exercise. My diabetes is well under control and if I can keep the weight from returning it should be good. Like every medication available, there are possible side effects, most people don’t read the information included with the meds, and don’t query with their doctor regularly about what meds they are taking and if any can be dropped or dose lessened. I think my doctor must cringe when he sees me at times, I write out questions, check what else I can be doing etc. I am never made to feel like a fool for my queries and I do appreciate that attitude. So for me so far, Ozempic is working. But I do detest all the hype it has been given as a weight loss drug, which unfortunately is making it very difficult for diabetics to be able to get regular supply, if you do not require this drug for its intended use, find other ways. No hate responses please, just expressing my experience with the drug.

I am a type 2 diabetic. I am on Mounjaro and have been on Ozembic. I was already skinny when I started taking these medications. I have lost more weight, and it does suppress my appetite, which is great for controlling your sugar levels. But, you do have to work on eating when you're not hungry. I have struggled with energy levels and some minor digestive issues. I do still work 12 hour shifts a day at a rigorous manufacturing plant. It can be managed as long as you make the efforts to compensate for the side effects of these medications. So, like any medication, you need to make additional lifestyle changes to counteract the effects of drugs like Ozembic. These medications for diabetes type 2 are amazing, but I would not recommend them solely for weight loss.

People don't realize that if they do intermittent fasting everyday, eat clean food (as little sugar, additives, pesticides, modifiers, vegetable oils etc as possible), and combine that with a moderately active lifestyle, they will lose fat. Because the fat gained happens from a combination of eating bad foods and not moving much. It is not fatty food that makes you fat, it is rathe bad foods that do. Natural fats, protein and carbs are good for and meant for the body. I have been eating real butter, animal fat and cream etc for years now and my blood work shows perfect levels. I have also slowly lost fat over the months and gained muscle. And that is without making my meal size smaller. I do also get to enjoy a glass of wine every once in a while, and natural homemade desserts. I once tried to eat sugar again after I quit for weeks, and my stomach had a severe reaction, which I interpret as a normal reaction to poison. Changing lifestyle is the way to go. NOT ozempic. We are living in a quick fix society, and it never bears fruit. The only solution to a global weight loss, is will power, making organic foods affordable, and eliminating toxins from our food. Since this will not happen, because of how food companies and big farma will lose customers from it, each individual has to take their own bodily health into their own hands.

Freeze the bread over night first then toast it. It halves your Sugar level due to doubling the conversion time for your carb's. And use full corn bread, not white!

This has to be a joke. I’ve lost 100 in 10 months by taking a weekly injection of semaglutide. I already had been eating well and excersizing daily.. before the semaglutide I spent a year going to gym five days a week. The harder I worked out, the hungrier I was that day. I felt helpless. After a year, I ditched my membership and dedicated my exercises to half indoor half outdoor. Then I found out about semaglutide.. started losing weight the first week. My appetite reduced.. Not just my appetite and eating less , but also cannabis and nicotine. I’m 6’5. I was at my highest weight ever when I began the weekly treatment at 310 pounds. I weighed in today at 211. Went from a 42 waist to a 36. The only thing I did for my diet was avoid as much processed food as possible, and watched my sugar intake. I did little things like get the low sugar, low-carb vanilla ice cream instead of the Ben & Jerry’s. Other than that, the white just fell off of me and I still have no clue how. my average white throughout my life has been 250. When I was 16 and I was starving myself I got down to 230. Before the medication I had not been below 250 since at least my college days. I’m 32 now. This medication gave me my life back. Without the extra weight, I can do push-ups properly. I used to be somebody that refused to look at themselves naked in the mirror. Now it’s hard to get me to keep on a shirt. It’s really funny hearing you talk about all of this in a fearful manner. I believe that most of the horror stories that have been told so far are just getting paid to say so (probably by someone that’s been skinny their entire life) it’s been a lifelong battle. I remember going to “kid fit camp” during my summers in middle school. I only hit 230 when I was 16 because my doctor gave me medication for ADHD that made my appetite disappear, and I took advantage of it. Which obviously eventually sent me into a spiral. The second I stop eating in a calorie deficit manner I would blow up like a balloon overnight. Moral of the story don’t let any skinny person gaslight you into not trying it.

should still consider the side effects though-calorie deficit and exercise are the main criteria for losing weight.

Nice work! Your story is just like mine. I graduated college in great shape and 10 years of working in offices/sedentary lifestyle the pounds just piled on. I lost 130 lbs in about a year and a half on it. In that time I have completely changed my relationship with food, I workout like a freak and I feel AWESOME! I tried everything over the years and nothing ever seemed to work, this stuff probably added 15 years to my life. I went from a 42 to 32 waist, 315 lbs to 185... if I didn't have all the loose skin from being fat I'd have a 6 pack. This stuff turned my life around. I've been off of it for about 2 full months and while the appetite has returned I work very hard to control it... no way am I going back to a constant back/knee pain, CPAP, High Blood pressure, and being the fat jolly and sweaty guy!

I have been off of Wegovy for 4 months and have maintained the 40 pounds I lost. Obviously I have kept my lifestyle changes, but I don't think what Dr. Hyman is saying here about the weight always coming back is really backed by the statistics. The most recent study I saw said about 25% of patients gain back ALL of their weight, 25% gain back some, 10% continue weight loss and the rest maintain. So that is 75% of people who lose weight. on this and about 50% keep it off. Further, I like Dr. Hyman on a lot of things, but, in the end, he is selling something. And these drugs mean he will sell less, it is pretty simple.

People need to find out why they over/under eat. This is usually down to mental/emotional reasons (comfort eating ect) it can take a while to get to the point where you don't emotional eat. It's a slow process as you have to face the emotions you have been blocking with food. It's not easy. But much better than take a shot that reduces your muscle mass by 50%!! That will cause you more problems than being overweight in the first place!! Learn to love yourself, listen to your body... when you have had enough food to feel satisfied (not full) and ditch all the shitty food programmes you have grown up with. No more guilt trips, just loving yourself for who you are. And loving what and how much you nourish your body with. If you listen your body will tell you what you need to eat and when. Don't take the "cheats" way, you will only have to do it properly after all. ❤

I went from a size 14 to a size 8. and I felt good. No more tiredness and weakness, I was able to do more, and mentally I was no longer depressed. Then the unthinkable happened, what no more Ozempic available, my insurance company told me. So it was on to a new drug similar to Ompezic and it worked just as well. And once again, I was told after a year No more of that either, it was on backorder for how long they didn't even know. Why, I said I didn't understand, because people are being prescribed this just to lose weight. It's "dangerous" because it's being prescribed to people who the drug was not meant for. Insurance wants to pay higher costs for care, they are publicly traded companies and their revenue model is your premium dollars which is based on cost of care. No company wants to lose revenue year over year, health insurance companies are no different. This is the fallacy in the U.S. that people think health insurance companies are trying to lower costs, its the inverse.
@Greenbean117 ай бұрын
@Nate-xk2qf I don't think you quite understood what I mean. Ozempic does cost less than having to pay for conditions that will only multiply and compound that result from chronic obesity. Do you have any idea how much a coronary bypass surgery costs? Years of diabetes supplies? Kidney transplant? Liver failure costs? One person could need all of that and more. Ozempic and other medications like it are a cost savings measure. If what you're assuming is true, they wouldn't be paying for weightloss drugs because it will cost more in the long run if they don't. I'm a medical biller and coder. You haven't got a clue about what you're talking about.

If I avoid things like tomatoes, I don't seem to have any acid reflux or heartburn issues. I am prioritizing protein, which makes me even less hungry. Fiber and protein, so meat, fruit, veggies....and I'm doing well. I also prioritize resistance training and staying active. I think a lot of people on this (from observation of those around me on it), don't change their diets, they are eating whatever and they are not prioritizing their muscle and strength. At this dose, I am able to eat enough to get nutrition and have energy to work out but it kills my desire to snack. It's perfect.

As an endocrinologist I did my phD on this class of drugs in 2007. This description of Ozempic is woefully lacking. As an example, any means of significant weight loss, be it diet or bariatric surgery causes lean muscle mass loss, and isn’t unique to incretin based therapies. Moreover, lean mass loss with these drugs have not been consistent, and is certainly not universally 50% as quoted here. The other major point is medicine is nuanced. It is not binary. The risks of nausea and vomiting is high, but the risks of doing nothing for obesity are higher. This also applies to the bowel obstruction and pancreatitis he talks about, which are nowhere near the figures he quotes. I work in the NHS so have no financial incentive with regard to talking about Ozempic. It also does not cost the NHS £1500 a month. This whole spiel is so disappointing and woefully lacking in objectivity.

Thank you for sharing. I lost tons of muscle by losing weight in 2010 with VSG, and again in 2019 naturally. I’ve lost 100+ lbs twice, both unprofessionally. I’ve been skinny fat, “ozempic face and butt” my whole life. I just started GLP1’s recently again because I need to lose 100lbs one more time. The muscle loss is the last of my worries. Before Ozempic, bariatric patients knew they’d likely get skinny but lose all their muscle. It’s really hard for bariatric patients to get any protein and we lose so fast accidentally. Shaming women’s faces after Ozempic is just pure fat shaming. No one did this with bariatric surgery 10 years ago.

It is not everyone that will get in to an accident. He is point out the things not saying it’s 100% And this to an audience that in my experience would cut their arm of for losing weight. If it’s not based on a natural solution it will not last and most importantly it will have side effects. It’s quite logical if you think about it objectively. My money is on that this will show far more side effects. And yes something should be done about obesity but that is naturally / not through even more things that should not be consumed.

I have already seen commercials on tv from law firms wanting to sue the drug companies because of side effects. It’s crazy that people want the easy way out and are willing to play Russian roulette with their health.

im surprised that not more about how this stuff effects the thyroid isnt being talked about. I was taking it 5 years ago before my heart attack, but my thyroid numbers went off the charts, and lumps not felt , but seen on the scan tech, were growing and so i stopped taking it, the 40 pounds went back on plus some, but the lumps went down as well.

Yes that is a very serious side effect . People do not what to hear about the Very serious side effects. Yes those side effects can be worse than the risks from obesity.

People having bad side effects are too high dosage!!! take lowest effective dose..it works to suppress appetite, you lose weight gradually and you feel better..if your diabetic..it’s a blessing to control blood sugar. 👍🏽 again, take low dosages!!

I understand the attraction of a helper to loose weight but as someone whose had to inject myself with methotrexate and 9 other biologic medications since i was 10 years old. It scares me people would do this if they didnt "have" to. It scares me whats happening to my body but ive got no choice. Ive dealt with weight gain and loss yes its fucking hard but i know people taking it who really havent tried anything else. Please try the healthy way. My friends wife has just been hospitalised taking this.

I've been doing Wegovy for 6 months, lost 25kgs and my metabolism is stronger than ever, I can still eat and lose weight. It's great, I don't plan on stopping any time soon. Here in the UK costs around £200 so for me it's money well spent

How do you know if your metabolism is "stronger than ever" if you are taking a drug that manipulates it? Are you off it?

@@00teatime Because I go on holiday, eat normally, drink and still I don't get weight, before on holiday I would gain 4kgs doing exactly the same

@@00teatime I can only speak for what is happening. Before I would go on holiday and return with another 4kgs gained, now I go eat a bit less that's for sure but no weight gained at all, in fact I lost weight when I returned from my holiday. I can only justify that with an increase in metabolism especially since I have drank beer every days for 3 weeks on my holiday

For many this is life changing, the blood work and over all stats for persons health and for that alone it is a HUGE benefit. For a women in menopause, who eats well but has had a struggle loosing weight, this has been amazing with little to no side effects. Many won't gain back of they maintain healthy eating and exercise. Some just need this as a jump start. My cost is 300 a month for straight semiglutide. You don't have to spend 1700 a month and these costs will come down as soon as the newness of this breaks and when people figure out you don't have to get the brands name to get the same exact medicine. All of my doctors said it would be an excellent way to get my system jumpstarted. I have increased my protein intake and have added weight lifting and for long term my food is amazing and delicious... if you need get a nutritionist. You have to eat on this medication to keep your organs and body functioning... what about the side effects of having all of the weight. Everything has to be measured when making this decision. I think heart attack for being over weight is a bad side effect of obesity too.

If you're OK to share, what happened? I'm really sorry you had a terrible experience. I'm a therapist and I'm seeing people suffer on this drug.

@vabl894 thankyou for your concern, i suffered from extreme psychosis, anxiety, panic attacks, muscular body contractions, tachycardia of 180 bpm to 200bpm. Critical blood pressure of systolic 190 diastolic 200+ vomiting, constriction of the throat unable to swallow. Suicidal thoughts, not being able to breathe, sweating, extreme adrenaline surges, fainting. I was hospitalised on many occasions and being totally gaslighted by the medical profession. I stopped the drug myself and within a few months I regained myself. I'm now on long term medication for blood pressure, mental health and pain relief because of this horrific drug. There was no care whilst I was on this medication. My consultant actually ghosted me when I asked for him to fill in a yellow card regarding my serious reactions.
