chalky learned that when you are on top their only one way to go from their . Chalky mos-def took care of his people. Narcisse most def pretended like he did. Chalky made sure everyone in his community was working and black men being able to provide for their family. Yea the norf side wasnt pretty but family & the community was United. Nucky was trying to teach chalky to be humble while you are on top. Chalky ultimately ignored him which lead to his down fall & his daughter death. Narcissie on the other hand was only a drug dealer & pimp & Later a snitch. Narcissie didn’t care about his community or his people because he was quick to start selling herorine to blacks in the north side though Purnsley. Granted narcissie was only Doing to ruin chalky reputation one the north. But selling drug to your own will only destroy a community regardless of reason. So yea narcissie he loved to pretend like he cared about his people/community . Narcissie was Very deep in the criminal under world, that why Luciano took him out for his non compliance.

Chalky never got it. See how his "friend" sold him out for a heroin deal. Narcisse was a pragmatist, and as long as blacks got high, he'd rather be the person making the money as opposed to white gangsters who looked down on black people. He wanted to eventually control the heroin trade in every black neighbourhood in the US. That's what Chalky should have got with, instead of being Nucky's errand boy.

He was in it for the money like everyone else, and the only one living in a big old house was him, and he gave up a beautiful wife, family and the Onyx club for a nightclub singer! I’d say three big reasons come to mind - 1) In the medical world there is a strict hierarchal structure and distinguishing physicians by their title is/was necessary to determine accountability and authority in patient management. 2) Culturally, the use of the title was strictly regulated in 19th century England as a matter of public interest and safety and that likely created the custom of explicitly identifying those who are true physicians as Doctor. 3) Traditionally, and still today, becoming a doctor redefines the individual’s identity and when you’re called doctor in all other facets of life, it is more jarring than insulting to be called anything else. That said - correcting people and insisting that the Doctor title is used is not a normal thing to see and usually comes across as petty.

BWE has a few almost non sequiturs that seemed to near filler level. But this is also comparing a perfect meal to a staggeringly good one 😆 I’m cutting all SORTS of fine hair on this analysis.

Fictional dr. Narcisse schools fools on the Libyan reality aka Moorish reality that is the fictional negro aka black man of America --- I have on dvr a 30 min HBO special about the series' impact, beauty, etc which was aired before the final episode. Various cast discuss their favorite parts and/or thoughts about the show. Wright talks specifically about the "the negro in question" line as a perfect accent to the prior scene. He said he laughed for ten minutes at the thought of a white man writing that. He said Howard Korder must've been a negro in disguise. The dialogue for Narcisse and Rothstein in particular was brilliant in retrospect. A lot of people focused on Gyp and the violence when the series was ongoing, similar to The Sopranos, but looking back, there's so much richness in the overall writing and acting to appreciate. Wright couldn't have been better for that character. He's already sounds vaguely similar to Dr. Narcisse in real life, very articulate and deliberative in expressing his thoughts. His demeanor is usually reserved and understated, similar to Doc's.
