@whatsanenigma

To add to that, Dr. Now obviously put a lot of thought into his decision. He didn't kick the guy out the first time he did some little thing - he knows that's part of being so ill sometimes. But after much thought and no improvement even after conversations with him that go nowhere, even with escalating bad behaviour, he decided to kick him out and stuck to it.

I have taken care of patients like this over the years. It is deplorable how we are treated as nurses. I could be counseling family members during end of life care and pulled away to deal with a patient such as this. Family members hunt you down in the hall, or by the nursing station. They talk to me as I am on the phone, on the computer as if I'm twiddling my damn thumbs. Our society has become so overly entitled and ignorant to polite behavior. To top it off he is ringing for pain medication like he has a narcotic addiction due to, without a doubt, joint and body pains from the strain of all that weight on his body frame. He and his father need addiction counseling amongst other things otherwise any medical intervention will prove fruitless.

I get sick quite often. Like every 5 years. Whenever I was in the hospital, I was always extra nice to the nurses because I know they go through a lot with some patients being ridiculous. I hardly pushed the call button except for when it was time for pain meds or if I had to use the bathroom. They wouldn’t let me do it on my own. When I tried, nurses came running in. I don’t know if the bed alerted them or what. I never figured out how they knew I was getting out of the bed. The two assistant doctors had me sitting at the edge of the bed while putting a cast on and the nurse yelled at them for making me sit so close to the edge that I could have fallen. Nurses are amazing. I’ll never be rude to them. I’m sorry you have to deal with abusive patients but know that in my eyes and other peoples eyes, nurses are the best.

When every kind of support staff, start to give up on these spoilt brat kinds of people, then these entitled brats needn't come crying to us that they've got no-one to help them. It's not a matter of what the job entails. If you try your best to help someone, and they don't seem to want to improve, then by all means you're allowed to give up helping the person. There's only so much anyone can do to help. No-one is superman or superwoman, so stop working yourselves into the ground trying to support a client who doesn't give a toss. If it's the patients family/clients family asking you to help the person, tell them that you've done what you can for their relative, but they don't seem to want to improve, so there's nothing more you can do for the person. Don't punish yourself by helping someone who doesn't want the help.

He doesn't change, this is not right he's 33 years old and he should know better than that. And if he wants food often because he has a big appetite, he should at least ask nicely for it, and not demand for the food. But because he needs to lose weight, he needs a medicine that will make his appetite smaller so that he can go without food for a while, and lose some weight. "I WANT THIS LIGHT OFF!" I dont know what was wrong with him but he was vicious with the staff, once he started getting violent they strapped him to the gurney and as a response he spent the entire night urinating and defacating right on the spot. He would move and aim it towards the floor and the other patients, it was vile. I felt so bad for the staff, I understand people have psychological issues or drug problems but that kind of behavior shouldnt be tolerated. If people like that cant control themselves they should be isolated at the very least, if not thrown out once the emergency is clear.

He’s quite pathological I mean, there’s some serious personality disorder/s at work here This is more than just obesity over eating, and the emotional/psychological issues that typically accompany it I mean there’s some deep seeded issues here there’s no doubt about it and no doctor or hospital in the world would tolerate this behavior first of all it’s not medically necessary for him to be there in the first place, so in order for him to stay, there has to be a necessity first of all and some compliance with the program and with hospital staff. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it and typically it’s the people who are struggling the hardest who are either in intense, severe pain or suffering tremendously for whatever reason, or who are seriously ill who are the most patient and respectful because they understand we’re doing our very best for them and we can’t just wave a magic wand, and take care of all of their problems, in one fell swoop, and their cooperation and communication allows us to better treat them effectively. It’s usually the people who have the least legitimate reason who are the most melodramatic, demanding rude, etc. but fortunately those people are very few and far between most people even if they make it short or cross at times, it’s very clear that it’s not directed at the staff, you know they’re uncomfortable they’re in pain they’re frustrated at being in the hospital. I don’t think anybody really enjoys being in the hospital even if they have a definite need to be there Steven on the other hand seems to really enjoy it and treat it as though it’s a five-star resort, but he’s definitely in the minority as far as that goes and as far as everything else goes thankfully because someone like him would be taking away care from other patients in need and definitely dragging down the morale of the hospital staff.

Luckily ive only ever had to have a 24 hr stint in hospital for a minor op...when i was coming out of anaesthesia i wasnt with it and didnt know where i was i swore and lashed out...its so unlike me. When i was compusmentous i was told what i had done...i was distraught and apologetic. I asked to see the nurses who i was horrible to and apologised to them all. When i left hospital i went to see them again and apologised again. That was like 15 years ago and i still feel bad for it as they are here to help us

I wish more doctors spoke up for their staff like this. We get mistreated and abused ALL the time by people just like this and they expect us to just take it and not leave in droves.

I'm seven years into happy retirement from a highly respected hospital (ICU). We had many doctors who, if they knew of such ill treatment of the staff, would hie themselves into the offender's room and read them the riot act. The docs very much appreciated how hard the nursing staff worked, and they would not put up with anyone mistreating us, including visitors. I don't miss working....I was forced into retirement at the age of 63 (severe work injury, and the hospital's fear of possible lawsuit and retaliation on my part)...and when I see things like this, I'm so, so grateful to be out of that environment!

My own father was the worst patient. He would be so rude to the nurses and doctors. Telling them when he should take his meds. Even when the doctor would stop certain meds while he was in the hospital he would argue with the nurses telling them he knows better than them. We would feel so embarrassed and apologize to the nurses and the doctors. Thanks for all you do. You take care of people who treat you poorly at times and whose family is sympathetic toward you trying to care and do your job. I want to say thank you and I’m sorry for the times you have to put up with disrespectful patients. The families of those patients do appreciate you. I appreciate you. God Bless

I will never understand the idea in abusing people who could literally end you with an empty syringe in your blood tube. Like if empathy and being a normal human being isn't enough motivation enough to treat medical staff with respect I'd have thought remembering that "angels of death" are sometimes out there would get you acting right

You know it's one thing to suffer from a severe food addiction, To have PTSD and terrible depression, and to have a traumatic past but this guy I mean he just takes it 20 levels beyond. I mean this as a man who is almost 600 pounds myself and working hard to fix it. Steven makes it almost impossible to feel sympathetic for him, I understand being big and being in pain or having uncontrollable hunger and food is the only thing that makes you happy I get all that because I deal with that but I would never treat anyone around me in that way especially if they were trying to help me.

I'm a Texan and if I were up north and a doctor told me that I need to man up because this is how we do things up north..wherever he's from", I'd feel so ashamed of myself. We're all a representative of where we're from whether we like it or not. When Americans go overseas and act like poor examples, it's the same thing. We're ambassadors. You're making your country look bad when you behave like an animal. Heck, this is how he acts WITH cameras on him. With cameras on you, you'll likely be on your best behavior, I mean the whole world could be watching..so that's why it's even more shocking (even if it's reality tv that should be taken with many grains of salt). It's just disgusting and embarrassing.

My English isn't perfect and KZbin is an international platform with people from all over the world, so I hope this doesn't sound critical, especially to those who have English as a second language.
