Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder like anorexia and bulimia and as someone who suffers from bulimia, the thought process and denial with these people is very reminiscent of that of bulimia. The key difference being that they simply don’t purge or starve, but rely on food for comfort.

Generally the councelling is used to help keep the momentum going once the weightloss starts to diminish as they get down in weight and thus calories burned per day just for existing as well as the metabolism adjusting. Im not sure if theres any proof that thats the most efficient method but I think the reasoning is that pre surgery the motivation of wanting the surgery should be enough and immediately after surgery rhe encouragement of the recent sucess suffices so saving the councelling means they have something to put in to give an extra push later.

They make you take a psych evaluation before going throughout all the tests for wls. Normally you’re supposed to go to a program for 6 months prior to surgery, with dieting and changing your eating habits similarly to what they will be post op. The last 2 weeks are gonna be a full liquid diet, just broth and protein shakes. That’s how it was in my experience, at least. I had the gastric sleeve, however.

I quickly went from 165 to 260lbs. Realized it was a problem as I approached 300lbs and started meal planning. 250-500 calories per meal (3 meals a day) plus a few healthy snacks per day (banana, apple, orange, or edamame). I rapidly went from 260 down to 203. I didn’t even exercise for much of it, the weight just melted off. I imagine just a controlled diet could do most of these people wonders and they could skip all the heartache.

The problem is that most of them are not listening properly to Dr. Now but they are still expecting his help.
