The reason the clinic didn't want patients dating is first, it takes the focus off of why they're there, and second, when you have someone else, a partner in crime, so to speak, you're likely to convince each other that it's okay to eat (or if n a drug rehab, doing drugs). It's that these two have a serious food addiction.

They could've just publicly "been friends" and encouraged each other to lose weight. They were there for a reason and did the amazing thing of checking themselves in. These poor people had a rough childhood. I can't even imagine hearing your own mother say it's your fault that she left. Her leaving in the first place would be traumatic enough, especially at 13. It was def not her fault that her mother left, and I hope she can get some therapy to realize that herself. I understand the man's frustration here. You don't want to hear the truth about some things, even though you NEED to hear it. He shouldn't have walked out, but I get why he did. Even though he was wrong, his frustration was real. Also feel so bad for the childhood he had. Childhood is so important to defining who we become. On top of that, it seems like our childhood is what we have the most memories of. Good and bad. Not going to talk about my childhood, but I can say it 100% had a major impact on how I am today as an adult. Still even at 36. *If anyone reads this, remember there is nothing wrong with seeking out some help, like therapy. Don't just think about it like I always do, but do it. I wish I would have sooner. Even people who think they didn't have much that affected them as a child, are carrying around more baggage than they realize. We all need to go to therapy lol.*

He put my brother into foster care where the abuse was way worse. We all turned out ok. It’s called stamina and getting help for emotional needs. Dr Now is so good at being honest and realistic with his patients. It's such an important part of Dr Now's work, because if he tries to beat around the bush or be too nice with his patients they will literally die. His patients cannot afford to have someone choose to be nice as opposed to truthful. They need blunt truth to realize the reality of how dangerous their situations are and they need someone can't doesn't let them get away with excuses because that is their escape mechanism and that is going to kill them.

He treated her like garbage. Hope they are apart and she gets help and succeeds. She deserves more that him. I hope he gets help also. I was sexually abused and I am disabled. I married an alcoholic and stayed with him 12 years. I was the breadwinner and I worked for the government. I grew a brain cell and planned my escape. Me and my mother rented a house live together for two or three years I met a wonderful man at the shipyard, got married although I was hesitant. We were married 22 years and he died of brain cancer. He left me with livable survivor benefits, and it’s been four years. I just couldn’t believe such a handsome man loved me as he did. I wasn’t overweight, I wore a leg brace and I had surgeries on both legs. I got down to one leg brace so I can’t be overweight or I wouldn’t be able to function. My point? People need to have more self-esteem. It took me a long time to have any. She can do better. We are destroying our children the way we treat them. It’s generational and it’s got to stop. I’m rambling so I will stop. 😊 Parents, do better!

Remember that with any chronic illness, mental or physical, or other similarly long term issue, there will be good days and bad days, good weeks and bad weeks, good years and bad years, good decades and bad decades. Whenever you are having a bad , try to remember that your now is not your forever. In those bad times, your brain hears the siren song of futility and is called to follow it, but try to resist it. Futility is not an accurate worldview, it is only a scheme to create more of itself. Fight the virus of futility. While it is tough, you gotta try.

It seems like the best combination is a morbidly obese food addict and a supportive, could-stand-to-lose-100-lbs spouse. Enough so they both go on a diet together, share the mental ups and downs, share the experience and celebration of losing weight and getting healthier, but where you have one person who NEEDS to do it for their health, and another who is there to share the journey and keep up accountability.

i’ve been reading this book about body language and definitely not an expert, but from what i’ve studied so far the confrontation was quite telling. Him putting the hat + sunglasses on after seeing the number on the scale could indicate a sense of shame, as if he were trying to hide. His eyes darted around a lot and at 7:33 his blinking rate increased after Dr. Now asked him to explain what was going on. At 8:18 he shook his head and withdrew his chins (+ phrase reputation of “I don’t see how…”) He did once before when saying he “didn’t eat a 3rd of what he used to eat.” A lot of this is indicative of insecurity, doubt, and/or fear even. On top of all that he pursed his lips a lot which could mean he either knows he has been caught red handed or shows disagreement. All in all I’ve concluded his body language suggest imo that he definitely knows he wrong and is making excuses up on the fly trying to think of what to comeback with as dr now is speaking to him. His wife was doing some self soothing behaviors as well so she could also be fully aware that they’re making the wrong choices. I don’t believe they genuinely go home and think what they are doing is right
