I love how he says he decided at 14 that there was no free will. With his argument, we don't even have the ability to choose sides on this debate. The only conclusion that won't cause an aneurism is to say the point is moot and "make decisions" for your life and to "choose" empathy and understanding for others.

Yes, Robert still uses words like "decided." But he's really talking about something more akin to an epiphany.

Maybe baboons have always had highly adaptive cultures. The aggressiveness observed might have to do with the fact that baboons live in environments heavily impacted by humans. The same thing is seen with aggressive chimpanzees who live in areas of human encroachment, poaching, and civil war. But across the river, the bonobos living in a peaceful region are behaviorally peaceful and pass it on as culture.

Baboons because social affiliate like bonobos when the Alpha males in Sapolsky's troop ate contaminated meat thrown out by the neighbouring human village and all died within 3 days of Tuberculosis. The Baboon troop remained socially affiliate as Sapolsky relates. So, the humans accidentally did a good thing for the baboon troop. 😅

Sapolsky lived in the wild 30 years studying baboons. Personally, I believe science should be studying baboons so that humanity is better understood. Israel/Palestinians, for example. I'm also convinced Sapolsky is high on the Consciousness Spectrum. 😮😮❤

@@psychiatrypsychotherapy6939 Great podcast thanks. I agree with you about the Joe Rogan comment, I noted it at the time too. I think also the only episode I have seen where Joe went to see Sapolsky, rather than the other way round. I tend to agree with Sapolsky on humans not having free will.. Sam Harris has talked about this a lot too.

Is the following free will or deterministic? I acquired "trigger finger" 4 or 5 months ago. Trigger finger is a common occurrence named after gun shooters(?) 🔫 whose finger is locked up and gets stuck in one position. I've tried everything to get mobility returned. I finally decided to see an orthopedic doctor 30 miles away. Driving over there, I realized that I've been used my entire life. As soon as I met with the Dr's assistent, my finger was no longer frozen 🙃 Driving home, I could only attribute my cure to my new (today) awareness that I've have been trapped emotionally and that I must not allow myself to be used because of my caring, empathic, playful, forgiving nature.😅 If the finger is frozen tomorrow, I'll need to reschedule with the doctor! I believe my finger is fine now. Free will or Destiny?

I think this guy, sapolsky, at a certain point in his life he made a choice, a choice so bad that he got PTSD from it and decided that there’s no such thing as freewill and that is in order to relieve himself from the guilt, the shame and the regret originating from that choice and in order to avoid any possible responsibility for any other choices that he makes later on throughout his life. Listening to his opinions is really funny!

What kind of trauma did you experience that caused you to project narratives onto strangers?
@mohamadkhanafer2630
@mohamadkhanafer2630 6 ай бұрын
@MarmaladeINFP it was obviously more or less like a joke, a joke well deserved. I don’t think you really understand how destructive and toxic such belief systems, the one this guy is promoting, are to us as human beings and as a society. And so i was trying to approach the origin of his belief systems in a humorous way. You don’t need to go through certain traumas in order to defend the only thing that makes you a genuine human being, an individual. I’m just a human defending what makes me a human.
