Now your sporting those rad 3T bars and the Easton cranks too, splitting little hairs I'd say. Slane is a man with exquisite taste, very tasteful bike. Not sure about the single crank though. I've been running 1 by on my CX commuter for the past year. I can see the benefits but I'm swapping over to a 46/36 double this week. Will have to weigh the components and see what the real weight saving is.
@mister_ray6 жыл бұрын
He defeats most the weight savings by going with the heavy XT cassette. XTR significantly lighter.

I run 1x (11-36 rear and 42t front), and it’s almost perfect as a road bike! Does the trick for commuting, gravel, spirited club rides, and I’ve also ridden a couple centuries on it. To be honest I think expanding the range from 36 to 42 would make it perfect.

To be pedantic- the geometry isn’t “better” than a CX bike- it’s just more familiar road geometry for this rider. If you were to try to take that thing where I ride my CX bike on local MTB downhill trails you’d be toast- it’s all wrong for proper off road. Horses for courses though, if you’re more at the “gravel” end - long fire roads, mild rough stuff, this thing will fly and more power to ya.

Question for the gravel riders: Why do you choose 1X over a more traditional gearing with a double chain ring? For example, if you have a 46/30 (adventure crank, made by FSA), could you not achieve the same gear ratios without having to have a huge pizza-size rear cassette? Of course you might not have all the high speed capability with just a 46 in front, but you don't have that with a 1X anyway. Having a smaller 2X crank just seems more practical in terms of costs of cassettes, being able to used standard road derailleurs and having a lighter rear wheel and shorter chain. But I wonder if I'm missing something...
@gplama5 жыл бұрын
Front derailleurs are an Achilles' heel of cycling. They're clunky, they don't change well under load, and it complicates things. A 1x simplifies things a lot.... with not too much compromise in having to run a long cage rear derailleurs with a bigger ratio cassette.
@bengt_axle5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. Hard to know what is going to work. Apparently, things did not go so well for 3T's 1X foray into road racing (www.velonews.com/2018/12/bikes-and-tech/velonews-gear-awards-2018-3t-aqua-blue-sport-breakup-of-the-year_482476). And that was on the road, where the chain is not bouncing around. However, I do realize that this setup is different with clutch and longer cage.
