All profits from Dr. Longo’s book, as well as the profits from his 60% share in L-Nutra, which produces the Prolon Fasting Mimicking Diet product, go to his non-profit charity, the Create Cures Foundation...

@@BrysonKeenan well how about pricing the diet at a level where most people can afford the diet. That would be much better than charity. I guess the point is that he has a financial interest in overstating the benefits of fasting and his FMD.

I've done the Prolon FMD that Dr. Longo recommends twice. It's higher in carbs than what I normally eat and because of this I had issues with low blood sugar and feeling shaky. It's processed dried soups that you add water to. Yes, there's also olives and a couple of other processed food bars. I would not do this again.

This post about longevity supplements is interesting. The human’s longevity depends not on what we eat as healthy food, but what we like to eat as a tasty natural food. Desirable food depends on our life style, and contribute a lot in our longevity that can be extended for very long time, almost indefinitely, as was discovered by Allen Omton and Serge Dobrow. The diet is simply a low-calore whole foods plant based vegan diet for 5 days, with vitamin supplements and nuts as the primary source of protein and fat 1000 calories on day one then 800 calories for 5 days... Then he's "mostly vegan", with minimal fish, meat, saturated fats, pastries, cheese, milk etc. I actually do not see how it's "fasting", at least not in terms of not eating food... The fact the results are similar to fasting, can probably more be attributed to the actual choices of foods rather than anything else.

I have... He doesn't ..explain quite.. well how "eating = fasting". Just that the effects are the same. I buy that , just don't call it fasting when you are EATING. That's like saying you were "mimicking driving", but you were sitting in the backseat of a car and ended up in the same place. It's not the same as driving it.

Calorie restriction prolongs life. It isn’t fasting. It is 30-50% calorie restriction.
@spearsg

You are right to question. The answer is that it is not fasting, but mimicks fasting by nearly duplicating important fasting benefits such as weight loss, autophagy and stem cell generation and maybe more. Is fasting superior? You bet it is. This fellow invented this process for folks who feel they can't handle fasting. For me -- calorie restriction is more difficult than fasting because you never attain the blessing of diminished hunger which comes approx 2nd day of fast. Instead, you stay ravenous.... and much worse. Cal restriction sucks a$$ imo.

It consists mostly of high fat plant foods like avocado, nuts, and olives-- not too much, less than 500 calories. It keeps you in keto and gets you back into apophagy fairly quickly. Of course, you may actually be better off just drinking water and only using a fasting mimicking snack as a last resort. After three days, you won't feel very hungry at all. When fasting, dont exercise because your body will make glucose from your muscle rether than fat. There are other scientists that say skip breakfast to extend the apophagy phase-- 16/8 or 20/4 eating schedule. His research is interesting though, and there still isn't enough knowledge on this subject.

I have been fasting for over 8 years snd I will tell you the best way to do it. This is dribble for the masses and will not improve your health. Firstly in order to lose weight you hace to be in a weekly calorie deficit (figure it out), but in terms of fasting start with 16-8 protocol daily. When your body adapts to this as well as your lifestyle to this protocol shorten it to 20-4 or even 20-2 so you are basically eating once per day (preferably in the evening). That's it!. If you want to incorporate longer fasts like I do follow a protocol such as this. 4 days per week (16-8 or 20-4 or 20-2) I do 20-2 from Monday - Thursday. Then fast from the 4th night up until the 7th day in the morning (60-64 hour fasting) then eat BIG on the last day of your week. For me it falls on Sunday where I consume upwards of 11,000 calories and my total weekly calories are 22,000 calories. Half of them consumed over just 1 day. Other things that are important is you have to exercise/lift weights at least 3 times per week, every other day is best and carb cycle the feeding days. My routine example Tues-Thurs-Sat-Sun (workout days) high carbs on Tues-Thurs and Saturday training is no food day as part of the extended fast so training is done fasted like all my days anyway. (Tues-Thurs-Sat) (rest days) low carbs. (Sunday feast day). By Sunday morning before feast I am down to a super lean 81kg bodyweight before feasting and up to 88kg after feast on Sunday night and this repeats so my bodyweight tapers off during the week. So what is important is let's say you calculated your weekly calories based on your lifestyle to be 15,000 calories in order to lose weight. It doesn't matter if you consume say 5,000 calories up until the 6th day and then you smash out the remainder 10,000 calories on the very last day of the week. You will still lose weight because it only matters that you do not exceed your total weekly calories. Think about the example above if you split your calories for the week and consumed only 5,000 up until the 6th day, your will be feeling a little more tired by the 6th day yes and hungry than usual and your bodyweight will have dropped significantly and by this point your metabolism/hormones may begin to slow down as you are not giving it enough food over those days BUT you reset everything because the last day of your week you will give the body a whopping 10,000 calories and this re-feed day is very beneficial in so many ways. You WILL NOT GAIN WEIGHT OVERALL BY DOING THIS because as i said as long as you hit your weekly calories you will continue to lose weight overall and the great thing is those 10,000 calories can be from any foods you like. I mainly fill out my 11,000 Sunday calories with mostly junk food, yes pizzas, ice creams, chocolates etc...

Christ told us that what we out in our bodies isn't what makes us clean. He took the focus off of legalities and shamanism and onto our eternal lives. He saves us. The old testament is about old health regulations and wisdom. So yes, he did it because he was a Jew and fasting is part of their religion and so it's part of ours because he fulfills the law. But we are also to follow Him not be overly concerned with law and lose our "way" because he's the way, laws/rules/fasting can't save us. But we can certainly benefit from the wisdom of the old testament, but not follow it blindly. I thought the same thing though! I wonder if this man isn't inspired or let by God to remind us of this wisdom. I saw an interview where someone said "your program" does this. He quickly and humbly said, "this is not my program. I don't want this to be seen as mine" or something and i wasn't sure if it was out of deference to his team or God or Christ's guidance... But it was humble and i felt a presence of some warmth in what he said. I always pray to do God's will like Jesus said to do and consider myself a seeker of God and a follower of Christ. ❤ So this is just how I see it but Amen! I definitely see a connection. Was considering the mimicking diet which he says is best for people who can't afford to lose more weight because of chemo... But now because of your comment am considering a water only biblical based fast. Thanks!

Have you read about The Essene Gospel of Peace and the Gospel of the Holy Twelve aka The Gospel of the Nazarenes? The Teaching of the Christ is all about our health and well being. Fasting is the only way to healing from all manner of sickness and disease. And Vegetarianism as the main doctrine of the Christ. The main christian movement is so focused on "grace" teaching of Paul, but its not the the true gospel of the Christ though. Peace. Im not arguing. Just pleasure to share. Blessings!

And he even sells his box with bags of "potato sauce", that cost less than 10 dollars, and he sells them for 200 dollars. Isn't this a scam? He basically didn't do anything, he just suggested a vegan diet and added a few days of fasting per year. Yet he sells this BS and it's expensive.
