I used to think, every time I got a bad head cold or influenza, my appetite would disappear for days. I could drink water but even thinking about food just made me nauseous. Now I know why. My body knows exactly what it was doing. All this time my mother would tell me to just "eat something, even a little bit" and I could feel my body saying no. It all makes sense now.

@JeninNH

@@DC-ik1tk it could possibly be both. Starve a cold and a fever, as fasting is healing and rejuvenating for the body. However, hunger is an indication of when the body most wants food, just like thirst is an indication of when the body most needs hydration.
@SCharlesS
@SCharlesS Жыл бұрын
@@JeninNH except that in the modern, 1st work. hunger is usually an indication of addiction since most people are eating something every couple hours - and the food they eat is driving hunger. those protein bards are NOT helping hunger subside. and their hunger comes up after 4 hours of not eating. And even if they got to 12 hours and felt hungry their body is most likely not actually hungry if they had been feeding it constantly prior to that. in fact, if you can get past 24 hours or more your hunger feeling will subside thanks to the Leptin hormone.

Beautiful video. Seriously. I do intermittent fasting since 2 years now and I never felt better. My most significant improvements are on my brain. In addition to the arts, civic advancements, architecture, civic organization, and the general love of beauty ( Le maladie de Stendal the illness from a surfeit of beauty in Italy) . And then... the widespread human connectedness of Italians! An example of which even in his one-time interview with the 122 yr-old gent in this video includes his singing a song for us with this interviewer who in such an Italian way sees and feels his being and helps us to do so too. I have adopted much of his advice given in his two books published on the subject. ‘ the 5:2 and the fast 800. I haven’t got the strength to do without food for extended periods, so the intermittent fasting works well for me. I have lost some weight although wasn’t particularly overweight in the first place. I find the improvement come in the way of more energy, concentration and generally feeling more upbeat. I’m sure others could add many more positives to the list. I am of your religion but when we break our fast, the carb-laden food counterattacks and kills all of the benefits of fasting. Our Prophet MOHAMMED (SWT) was extremely healthy and don't believe he ever gorged on fried food and plethora of dishes when he broke his fast. Just a food (pun intended) for thought. :)) salaam Brother.

A couple years back I underwent a 22-day, water-only fast. Not an easy thing to do, particularly the first 5-7 days. It's nice to know that it gets easier as days pass, as toxins are removed from the body. I actually felt invulnerable from disease and infection after the 10-day mark and was feeling quite good overall. Most importantly, is what foods and quantities you consume when breaking the fast. Overall, it was a very healing experience.

Been doing it for a week. NEVER HUNGRY!! Fast from 8 p.m. until 2 or 3 the next day. I used to eat breakfast because it's what we do, not because I was hungry. So stretching it longer wasn't too bad. Plus knowing you can then eat until you're full is great to look forward to. I did cut out most bread/pasta/crackers. Don't crave them now.

Dr Longo's studies showed that there is a chance of creating gall stones if you delay the first meal every day. So 2 days I eat at breakfast time. Fasting is a spiritual practice in Buddhism that is approached with mindfulness and discipline. While not mandatory for lay people, fasting is considered a tool for cultivating self-control, detachment, and deeper meditation. The emphasis is on moderation rather than extreme deprivation. Here are ways fasting is promoted in different Buddhist traditions: Fasting in Buddhism aligns with the principle of the Middle Way, avoiding both indulgence and extreme asceticism. The practice is done to balance the body and mind, supporting spiritual development without harming physical health. Buddhist monks are not supposed to eat after mid day. That is a tradition started almost 2550 years ago.

Would be interesting to do a study with people from 2 groups -- one group of people that are accustomed to fasting and a separate group that haven't done much fasting before the experiment. Reasoning would be whether stress hormones play a factor in effectiveness of starting to fast until the conclusion of the experiment. People accustomed to fasting probably wouldn't as worried about their next meal and dealing with hunger pangs and so anxiety about something they've never tried before would be less and could result in significantly different results between the two groups. Some people fast as part of their religious beliefs and have been doing it since an early age so it isn't so new to them.

I first saw Prof. Valter Longo in the BBC program, "Eat, Fast, and Live Longer" and learned about intermittent fasting. Because my thyroid was removed in 1971 I am forced to go further to regenerate a thyroid, and have to date put in over 8000 hours of two week long dryfasting sessions, and am now off thyroid replacements. It took dedicated dryfasting for me to realize what bad condition my body was in beyond simply the thyroid issue. I am now in day 21 of this dryfast, maximizing autophagy to allow the body to remove whatever does not serve it and restore fluidity to the great lymphatic system. The Nobel Prize in 2016 was awarded for studies into autophagy.

well do the research and report on it! I usually don't pay any attention to people who point to the wisdom of people who lived hundreds or thousands of years ago. As if by simply living a long time ago they knew something we don't. They were people who lived a lifespan same as we do now, without the benefits of structured research, studies etc. So I am not going to go drink some tea made out of a bunch of Chinese herbs or whatever just because someone says they worked for some villagers who lived five hundred years ago. Let's do the research and decide which practices are beneficial and which are not. As in, this guy here actually did the research, identified biological reasons and showed in different organisms that it worked. To me, that is proof, and years of hard work to show it. Long live science!
