I did the same thing. Also enriched the mixed air/fuel by adjusting it via the screw on the carb. Below it actually. Remive the brass plug to access it.

Thank you very much for sharing! I'll add a link of the carb diagram in the description for anyone that might be interested in making the adjustment as well.

🇦🇺😎👍I was riding home in my DR 650 the other day and my trouser leg caught fire

@@ComfyDadShoes 🇦🇺😎👍yeah mate the bike is at the mechanics getting the pipe wrapped. Because the bike is running now ( how it was originally intended) hotter than in the past and it has about 10 extra hp it does create a lot of heat through the big stainless header pipe. I did a fuel check and it getting 21 km/ litre. My other standard DRs got between 21/23 km/ litre

It's really easy to jet this bike. No need to remove the carb even, can be done with spinning. At the very least you should remove the plug covering the fuel screw and give it a half turn to a full turn out.

I do love the simplicity of tuning the DR, and definitely will consider that. Thank you for adding some extra info / feedback for myself and others! 🍻🤟 I really appreciate as much additional input from other riders as possible. Happy riding!!!

I saw other videos talking about the thing (Hot header pipe and deceleration popping) and one guy spoke to the factory and was told "it's normal for the header pipe to get hot and glow" because of the "pair system" (I guess it burns unburnt fuel. like a catalytic converter) so he chose to leave it and I believe he adjusted the fuel air ratio but can't remember. The others only had an issue when they changed the exhaust then the had more air so they had to re-jet the carb. It seems counterintuitive to add more fuel but everyone is on the same page with that so like you said "header detonation" is the issue because the exhaust is hot, if I understand all that . My brain doesn't want to accept it! I don't have a bike yet but am hoping when I get straightened out I can get a DR or similar bike. If you're in a state that you don't get e-check you can just take all the emissions crap off! My kids are grown now and when I see a Dad trying to enjoy a bit of his life I have to give you props for hanging in there brother. We need to stick together more! Hang in there don't give up or take "no" for an answer! "Rome wasn't built in a day" so keep plugging away!

Amen, brother! 🙏 I really appreciate those positive words! I do think you could cap off the pair connections, then reconnect later, if you have e-checks in your state. Just make sure you also leave the EVAP system intact as well! I remember that being a problem for me when I had a 49 state bike in CA years ago. I agree it definitely does seem counterintuitive like you said. I wasn’t a believer until the pair was gone. But more than anything, thank you again for the encouragement, sir! I definitely will keep putting stuff out there. It takes my mind off of a lot, and hopefully helps some folks in the process. 🍻🤟 have a blessed one!

Mine did that when it was new then I adjusted the mixture now it doesn't, really makes me wonder if the factory settings have ever caused a brush fire or two over the years.

Definitely wouldn’t surprise me. Especially if it was parked in the wrong spot. Something like cogon grass would light right up!

Something that you should also do is remove the tiny factory fuel filter that is in the fuel inlet tube on the carburetor and put an inline filter on.

Ethanol free 92 will get rid of pop. Clear gas doesn’t burn as lean. Also no condensation build up or lacquered motor. If the lawn mower is good enough for clear gas then so is the dr.

dude, the higher octane fuel resists unwanted combustion from compression and heat. It should have no difference on combustion when the plug fires - except that it may have a better hydrocarbon mix. Premium fuels would normally be formulated to burn more completely.
@ComfyDadShoes3 ай бұрын
My theory with the octane is that the low compression won’t fully detonate the premium fuel during cylinder combustion, thus creating a power loss and mpg loss. Also, that some of the unburned fuels might have a delayed detonation in the exhaust chamber. I would be nervous to use a premium fuel if I increase the ratios. Suzuki recommends 87 in the manual, but your take makes sense as well.
@SomethinK3 ай бұрын
@@ComfyDadShoes That's not how it works. 87 MON (91 RON) is the minimum. Premium fuels often have a higher energy content and therefore better mileage. The advantages of higher octane can't be used on an engine that doesn't have an ECU that monitors O2, throttle position, knock, etc. and adjusts ignition timing for optimum torque production. Therefore, all of the benefits of premium can't be used in a DR, but it still gains from higher energy content and (often) a better additive pack which helps reduce carbon deposits. Just realised - I think the 87 is the average of MON & RON...
