Be sure to note director Freddie Francis's creative use of color filters. Francis was also a renowned cinematographer.

Dracula was straight up evil personified in this film. The way Dracula fought to remove that stake was like watching (and listening to) a feral animal get out of a bear trap….that right there, was mastery in acting.

Now DVD restores them to their colorful beauty for us to enjoy long after the cobwebs have been swept away.........

The point is that Lee was the greatest dracula
@derickwilliams21954 жыл бұрын
I fully concur. Lee defined the role. He was the tall dark and handsome man and he struck an imposing figure. The short fellows who came after him could not get any close to that. Subsequently they were not half as scary.

I always find it a little amusing how easy it is in vampire movies to drive a stake into someone's heart. You'd think this guy was cutting a slightly frozen ice cream cake with a knife, not ramming a pointed piece of wood through layers of muscle and bone.
@tinkles7232 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if this was established in the Hammer films but in the mythos, vampires are especially vulnerable to stakes; so much so that their skin is like butter to wood.
@yohei72 Жыл бұрын
@@tinkles7232 Which mythos? I’ve never heard that. Honestly seems a bit lazy from a storytelling angle; shouldn’t it be harder?

This is I think the crown jewel of the whole hammer Dracula series and the best one I think and one of the things was I think was that with the concept of staking a vampire that you have to pray to properly destroy him and to stake him successfully And it’s unfortunately a thing that other horror vampire films and modern films now miss out on and undermined They simply don’t make them as good as this anymore.

Just once I'd like to see a vampire movie where the hero (or heroine; have you EVER seen any woman not named Buffy stake a vampire?) drives In a stake, the vampire awakens and screams, DOESN'T die, the hero restakes him, the same thing happens, and the hero screams "WHERE THE HELL IS THE HEART?" (My doctor once commented that most people don't know where the heart actually is, even though they think they do).
