Thank you for this awesome lesson. Not only did you teach us how to draft the sleeve sloper, but you taught us the exact relationship between the sleeve cap height, and the arm hole length. Should be a marriage made in heaven! Best of the new year to you!

I've been learning to draft sewing patterns over the past few years. For the sleeve, I began using the diagonal line and points at various amounts to create the curves and then discovered the Quarter-fold method which I find easier to follow. However, your tutorial was so interesting -- haven't seen a sleeve made from the armscye method before and really like the result! Thank you for explaining this so clearly and think this will be a great one to use when drafting for a 2 piece sleeve.

I've watched a few of your drafting tutorials now and I think I'm going to start with your videos before bothering with any one else's anytime I need to learn (or re-learn) pattern drafting skills. Your methods are exactly what I learned in fashion school and you teach it at the right speed. There are some other good tutorials out there, but I always feel confident that I'm doing it right when I follow your tutorials.... and my patterns have come out perfect the first time using your method instead of having to constantly second guess my work when I use other tutorials......THANK YOU!

I found my bodice was slightly bigger. So may increase the size of my sleeve to see how that goes when made up and fitted. Your instruction has been very beneficial and easier to understand than most others I’ve come across. Thank you.

Thank you! I have been fighting with sleeve and armholes for a very long time. As a big girl, most instructions for makings slopers don't seem to take that into account. Your method works exceedingly well. I only had to make an adjustment of 1 cm. I am looking forward to the rest of your your videos. They are clean, logical and precise. Just the way pattern drafting should be.

Being older and "curvy" and a little wonky because of surgeries it has been a real struggle trying to get clothes to fit. I have bought many fitting books, watched fitting videos and gotten so frustrated I was ready to quit trying. Then I came across your drafting video's.. I made my first sloper this week and couldn't be happier. I had to fuss with the shoulders ,sloping and forward , a bit but I am so pleased with the way the muslin turned out. Not perfect but so much better than the others I tried. Watched this one for the sleeve and will tackle it tomorrow. It may take me another week because I know I will have to fuss with it too but all in all this has been the first time I have felt positive about my sewing since I could just open a commercial pattern and sew many many years ago. Thank you so much. And more videos please. LOL

I'm looking into doing a pant, however; it's quite involved. Many professional pattern makers would rather work from an existing pattern, or rip up a pant to extract the pattern, rather than starting from scratch.

Really excited to try out this method of drafting sleeves. I have now read about a few different methods, but they all draft the sleeve without using the "eye" method, and they seem to include some arbitrary numbers that I'm not sure where they come from. Your method is so straightforward, and I think it's easy to see how this method corresponds to fitting the body! Trying it out soon. Thanks!

Thanks for this tutorial. I recently discovered your channel and only drafted and sewed the bodice slower yesterday, using your first two videos. It worked extremely well and was desperate to find out how to do the sleeve. I spent about two hours last night trawling KZbin and various blogs trying to find out how to do this - I was left very frustrated and confused as none of them referenced the original bodice to see if it would fit. I'm so excited to try this today. Will you be doing a two or even three part sleeve tutorial at some point in the future? Stay well.

Just found your channel. Hope the coming year will be kind to you. Thank you. These lessons are so clear and easy to understand that I think I can do it. I 've tried other systems . I am ready to start my sleeve. I have paper and tools and will be following this video. I plan to redo my bodice sloper which was another technique and doesn't fit. Your way seems more useful. Please keep doing these videos. Do you have workshops or books? What you do is an art.

Thanks Anita. Sorry, I have no books, perhaps one day. I work full time making clothing and accessories. Let me know how your bodice and sleeve turn out.

It would be cool if you could discuss sleeves typical of the victorian era and shirtwaists, in which the shoulder seam is typically back of the current standard, and the sleeve is divided into a back and front, with a curve at the elbow.

Teaching yourself is difficult. I didn't do it. Take classes if you can find them. They will prevent you from making many mistakes. I've been asked many times for a pant draft. It's in the planning stages, but don't hold your breath.

i don't know why but i had to do this over at least 17 times!!i nailed the bodice in an hour.this took five hours!!i'm a size 0-1 and my sleeve kept coming out looking like a sleeve pattern for a beluga whale.it was huge!it dawned on me after 15 failed attempts that i wasn't dividing the wrist measurement by 4 as well as the upper arm.i'd been sewing for 6 hours straight so i was tired too.either that,or i need to sew myself a new brain.

17 times??? I guess I need to give more clear directions. The sleeve can be challenging. It takes a bit of trial and error to get one that matches the length of your armhole plus any additional ease.

oh no,your directions were perfect!i was too tired but kept insisting!the bodice went just fine.i made a whole dress thanks to your tutorials.i was unable to do anything a couple weeks ago!so your directions are obviously very precise!i was wondering if you could show how to make a puff sleeve.i was able to make one based on a modification of your basic sleeve pattern but i would likke to know the proffessional method.thanx so much for your vids!

Thank you for posting this, I was having the same problem! I did this twice and both times ended up with a huge opening (in fact it was double of what it should have been!)... I too was not dividing the wrist by 4. lol. Entirely my own fault for not paying attention close enough.

not only do i watch your videos i also read ALL the comments and it is official your videos are the best. i truly would love to see you at work with fabric. you and your system have made the impossible possible for someone like myself . i am looking for paper at the moment so i can get started. all so do you know where we could find the french curve you use. i have tried to find it online but with no luck so i just bought what i thought would do. it has not arrived yet. i only have one remark about the videos. you film with you paper side on and i find myself turning my head to see it as it it was the right way up lol lol Thank you again for making me feel that dress making is doable. x

Thanks for this video it is the most straight forward video I have seen, but I have a problem figuring out how to measure from the armhole seam to the wrist if I am measuring on a figure with full arm or on a person. Do I measure the length on the side of the person or the side of the arm being measured I am a bit confused. I know this video was done a long time ago. but I will really appreciate the clarification. Thanks.

If you have no shoulder seam from with to measure, then start measuring at the center back neck, over the shoulder, then down to the wrist. Subtract the half shoulder measurement when drafting the sleeve pattern.
