I am VERY VERY HAPPY that you're back with a detailed and informative tutorial!!! Because of this current lockdown on our location, I've been trying to look up for sewing tutorials. Since I am a beginner, I don't really find some tutorials motivating as they want me to use my favorite clothes as my pattern or use a certain store-bought pattern. Thank you so much for this type of tutorials!

I really love your tutorials. I'm a professional pattern cutter myself but I really like the simplicity of your explanations & your focus on the correct balance as well as the fitting. Please give us avid followers some more. I'd love to see a trouser block draft!! Keep up the great work, you're wonderful!
@christophersartorial76712 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nicky. I may get around to showing a pant draft, but it can be challenging, even for professionals. Most patternmakers prefer to work with an existing pant pattern, and adjust as needed.
@nickycook84252 жыл бұрын
@@christophersartorial7671 indeed, a well fitting trouser is like the holy grail! I recently did a course in pant drafting (although I'm an experienced pattern cutter, I fancied a refresh) & I concluded that one can only ever start from a basic block/shape that is evenly balanced then re-fit accordingly to each individual shape. So, a knowledge of fitting issues & how to resolve them would make for a great tutorial, or series of tutorials. You can possibly tell, I'm a bit of a pattern cutting geek.. a 30 year career & I still love drafting patterns every day! I've really enjoyed watching your tutorials, simple, easy to follow, precise & elegant... proper 'old school' pattern drafting! I have recommended watching them to a few people. Your methods are the way I learnt how to draft patterns during my college years in the mid 1980's. A joy to watch. 😊

This is so much more comprehensive and accurate than other videos I've seen on the topic! It was never clearly explained where/how to place the notches or how the fabric will behave as a consequence of certain methods - you make it all easy and digestable! Very much appreciated by a sewing newbie like myself. Is there a chance to see a video where you troubleshoot a sewn bodice/dress for common mistakes, and how to transfer the fixes (in fabric) back to the pattern to adjust it properly? Somehow that's one of my struggles!

Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I wish I found you before I bought one of those expensive "pattern expert" "fitting systems" . It is exactly as you described, the cookie cutter pattern. no wonder it doesn't work for me. I have trouble with shirts neck and shoulders riding to the back and got advice to do a high round back and low round back adjustment. hasn't worked. just leads to more adjustments. I will definitely give this a go! Have already tried just pinning a few shirts in the front to be more narrow and that seems to solve the problem! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Such quick and easy pattern systems are the "Vegematic" of pattern making. They work great when demonstrated, but not when you get them home. Professionals would never use them.

Thank you so much Christopher. So nice to watch a video from you in this lock down. Love from Uganda. Could you please upload a tutorial on drafting the Bustier? Thank you so much
@christophersartorial76714 жыл бұрын
You could draft a Princess seam Bustier using the methods in the videos I've already done: First draft a fitted bodice sloper without any ease (very close fitting), then convert the darts into Princess seams, and cut the neckline as you like.

How do you decide where to put your notches? Is it arbitrary? Or is there a method to help you decide where to put a notch?
@christophersartorial76714 жыл бұрын
There are a few places where notches are standard, such as at the waist, and in the case of Princess seams, a distance either side of the bust apex. Most other notches are placed at the pattern maker's discretion. They are there to help match up pieces while sewing.
