Should these mods be done on a pump/case if you are not using a transbrake?? They appear to help with fluid flow. I am doing one of these at the moment and I do not want to run a trans brake in it for regular street driving. Line pressure would be to high and would ruin the build! Eventually If I want to drag race for consistant launches I will drop the trans and install one. B
@Burndown2 жыл бұрын
If you are not running a trans brake Im not sure. These modifications came out of a book I was following as I put this together. I had bough a manual trans brake valve body so I could not tell you if these mods would be ok for a regular PG or not. If I had an answer for you I was confident in I would tell you one way or the other if I knew.

I have a turbo spline output shaft and my converter is set up with one so no need to use one in my transmission. Good catch tho. I believe most turbo spline converters have them but check with your converter guy so see if its needed or not.

@cerrem14 жыл бұрын
Great Video.... One thing to note when you modify the PRIMING VALVE RETAINER.... You pull the pin and you replace it with the 1/4" NPT pipe plug............ BEFORE you install the pipe plug you need to drill a 3/16" hole on the top of the pipe plug ..ie, looking down into the HEX end... This is to displace the air in the bore, else the priming valve will not move much trying to compress the air inside there.. Your plug goes below the old pin hole so that will not relieve pressure......... I'm in SD.. what city you at ??
@Burndown4 жыл бұрын
Im In So Cal. I can check the book but I dont remember it calling to drill that out. It would make sense I guess but honestly this is my first transmission build and its currently in my car working fine. I would like to upgrade to a straight cut gear when I can and also plan on building a back up trans just to have one if I need to swap them.

I feel like trying to explain it is more work than just doing it. Its not too bad and after I get this one done ill probably build a back up just to have one and because I can now. Im in So Cal. This is my first attempt at building a transmission of any kind.
@jimmyp18705 жыл бұрын
You just put a burr on both your pump gears by marking them. Both gears have a champhered edge on them that tells you what side goes in. Please never punch on your gears.
@Burndown5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out. I can see how that would leave a burr. Yeah after I hit them with the puch I realized a marker probably would have been sufficient. This was the first time I ever had a pump apart and thought it would help me put it back together. Now that im a little more familiar with the parts I know now about the edge on the gears, I didn't when I did this. Well this is how we learn. I ended up replacing the gears anyway but its a good note for anyone watching this. -Dane
@gneric855 жыл бұрын
Plus, they are not hardened gears, they can fracture from the punch hitting the metal. Worse case scenario, use an engraver and mark them. Bevel goes in one way and tangs are away from converter
@Burndown5 жыл бұрын
@@gneric85 Yeah next time I won't even bother marking them up at all. Now that I have done it a few times I know whats what a little. Thanks for the insight tho. This is how we learn👍 Pump gears were close to bad anyway so I just got a new set and threw them in.
