I had a PowerGlide with the rear pump in my first car, a 1965 Chevy Impala SS 396. I still miss that car

First off you are the man, I appreciate your videos and you sharing your knowledge. I’m new to building transmissions, why would you want to “tune” your converter charge pressure? Could you give an example of why you may want more or less charge pressure? Just trying to understand it all. Thanks again.

@@mattflang-te5om The restrictor is a start to control any forward push against the crankshaft of the engine. A better setup is a regulator that you can adjust to 100lbs or less. Upping the pressure in the transmission so it can hold more power has some trade offs. Thanks for watching!

what would you likely thing the culprit is if the charge pressure fluctuates a LOT. Like, from trans brake release at ~80psi, it drops to about 10psi at top of low, spikes to 75ish in 2nd and finishes out the 1/8 mile pass at 55psi or so.

I am not using a Trans brake, will these mods be good in my application. Street 5.3 with turbo? Your awesome videos are a blessing!

At the 11 o'clock hole if you leave the original stator tube in and your drilling the hole should you go thru the stator tube hole and open that up as well? Thanks, great videos

Love the videos. I got a question about the set screw with the 1/8 inch hole you put in the converter charge pressure port to make it tunable. What's happens if you just leave it at a 1/4 inch. Thanks

Thanks! With the pressure turned up it’s possible for the converter to get pushed forward with hydraulic pressure and put force on the crankshaft thrust bearing. Restricting it helps control that to a point.

@@mountainsgarageOk. That makes sense. Thank you.

Had the same question. Is the restrictor used because it will be turbo charged and ls has tendecy to lose thrust bearings? Ive watched all your powerglide videos as im building mine for my drag and drive sbc nitous car. I also reference the tsr book and a few other sources. The tsr book doesnt mention drilling it out, but fti and others drill it to .250 and leave it. I drilled mine out but now im wondrring if I need to restrict it like you did. Do you have any input. Great videos btw, very well put together and informative.

Great vid Shawn thx. That port at 11 o'clock you drilled to 1/4', what function does that provide?

I will be covering that when I cover input shafts, but it is for oil exiting the converter headed for the lower cooler line port then to the cooler.
