Wow...love this project I had this idea 10yrs ago to do to my 03 sport trac but I can’t weld & don’t have access to a alloy welder to fabricate the intake so....the idea now is to go eccoboost

I have heard a few people with the idea of putting an ecoboost in an older Explorer but I have not seen one completed yet. I will bet it will be a fun ride!!!!!

It is am Eaton M122, it's off a GT500 Mustang. It is not a direct bolt on, there is a custom intake manifold under it.

I was using SCT's Advantage III software along with the Xcalibrator4 hardware. Its still pretty functional but SCT had to limit our access to Emissions related stuff.

Hello Mr.Ground, I just got into the ranger game (usually an F150, Fairlane, V8 but not 5.8l,.... Guy) and saw your videos last thursday. great help in sending me down a rabbit hole that let me realize i'm late to the SC 4.0 game. In a way (online pics on forums and such) they helped me get useful intel and helped me contact with Mr.R.P.Caster. Try as he might he couldn't help source needed parts or old drawings so I could machine my own kit even though I managed to get 2 good junkyard M90's this weekend. I may just save my pennies and do as Caster suggested, get a Moddbox kit. Mostly just wanted to thanks for pointing me in the direction of having a more capable 4x4 4.0. Also If you have any leads on a used kit or pointers that will alleviate some suffering in getting a kit together, I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks again

Hello! Unfortunately Moddbox is the only 4.0 SOHC supercharger kit supplier these days, I have seen their stuff and it does look to be high quality. I recommend getting the liquid intercooler that goes into the intake if you go with them and they start making the intercooler again. What year is your Ranger? A used RPCaster kit may show up on EBay but I have not looked for one for a while. I am on Facebook (Explorer and Ranger pages) and explorerforum.com if you need to ask more technical questions in the future. I try to help as best I can.

@@shortedtoground Thank you for the offer, much appreciated. Yes their kit looks like a well designed quality product. I have an 07 4x4 with lockers, This truck just need a bit more climbing tq. I will probably stick with the 3.5lb. I'v already had cars in the high 10's- 13's in the quarter. This ranger is something I want to last and not get me into trouble. Have you ever broken any front drivetrain parts? I installed Trakmotive axles from Rockauto, They seem beefy but im more worried about the aluminum Dana 35. I've already seen tons of your stuff out there including on Dragtimes. also I think there is 2 YT channels with your Explorer.

@@M1ST3RHYDE I never broke anything in the front differential or front end. Only the transmission when doing 4WD burnout. Broke both one way clutches in that transmission. Fixed it with parts off Ebay and it is still going. I did put 4.88 gears in the front and rear diffs. In the past people have broken the rear axles, one guy rolled his Explorer and boat he was towing at the same time. I put Moser Axles in my Rear Differential.

I have been running about 310 HP and 350 TQ for years and it has held with stock bottom end. I think I will need a built bottom end to withstand the nitrous I plan to spray. Cant wait for next years racing season so I can test it!

i'm not quite sure of your question, do you mean what you should use as a Supercharger? If so there are not many options but there are some kits available for the 4.0 SOHC. Keep in mind that the kits are often made for Ford Rangers, or Ford Mustangs with the 4.0 SOHC engine so the kits may need some work to adapt them to your Explorer. I started out with a kit from Bansheeautoparts.com but Ron has retired from the supercharger kit business and just keeps his online store for performance auto parts.

Soon as the weather gets better I will be working on getting some video of it moving. (from outside the truck) I do have some video from inside (12.806 in 1/4 mile etc.) Also a couple youtube channels got it during test and tunes, search dragracing supercharged explorer. BigKlieb34 and TalonTSI97 got video from the outside. I need a pit crew!

Why so bad I have 410 gears in mine with the 5.0 with trick flow heads and get about 14 mpg and I think that's bad I would love for mine to get 90 thru the 1/4 mile and also mine is not awd.

I get 14 in my stock 1998 4 door explorer, 13.5 in my 2004 Supercharged 4 door(my other supercharged Explorer) and about 14 in my 2001 Ranger Edge. The supercharged 98 2 door gets 10 because of all the modifications.

Them other Ford Explorer 4 doors are they 5.0 that you have , if so or not what are the gear ratios in them just curious for the not so good mpg.

@@spankyranger8842 I own all 4.0 SOHC vehicles now. 98 2 door = 4.88, 98 4 door = 3.73, 2004 4 door = 3.41, 2001 Ranger = 4.10

Its a return system, Walbro 250 LPH pump, Mallory Adjustable Fuel pressure regulator, custom fuel rails, 60lb Siemens Deka injectors, Autometer gauge.

If that's a 4.0 the explorer is to heavy and if that's a 5.0 its still to heavy ether way with a super charger. It still would no hit 90 in the quarter mile.

It's the 4.0 SOHC, and it is very heavy. To get it going to it's fastest 1/4 time of 12.806 I had to do way more than just a supercharger. It has a liquid cooled intercooler system, water methanol, 20 lbs of boost, 4.88 gears front and back. I am now ready to test the nitrous and hope that helps this big thing move a little faster.

That's pretty dam good time that would out run most highway trucks and cars and what kind of gas mileage you get at 60 ?

@@spankyranger8842 PA turnpike is 70, I average around 10 MPG when driving to MapleGrove Raceway (65 miles away from me). 70 is about 3,000 rpm's. I can drive to Atco Dragway(26 miles away) run a few runs and drive back home on full tank of gas. The AC still works too.
