I noticed you conveniently ignored the parable of the drag net in mark and Matthew, and Paul preaching to the Governor and his wife in acts talking of eternal judgement until he trembled and went away, or of Jesus in John 5 or 6 talking of the dead rising to honor or dishonor. Greek studies is good that's how we got the new testament, but I tremble at the trend of Greek studies nowadays that causes people to dispute what the bible clearly states that even the barely literate can understand. God help us.

The early church believed the fires of which you mention were purgative, not punitive. I invite you to read the Greek Patristics. Much of Christian though was changed by the introduction of the Latin vulgate and it’s rising influence after Roman culture was adopted by the church in the 4th century. Bless you.
