Having worked through the scriptures and church history, I am convinced that this is the only gospel that can mean anything at all. What stumbles me now is not abstract arguments to the contrary or “gotcha” verses that, if anything, only reinforce this message when thought through with deep coherence. It is that people at best don’t care, at worst despise the very idea of it. I just don’t understand. I was never able to have spiritual integrity, a truly clean conscience, before I gave myself permission to believe it, because it was patently obvious that if this were not true, the only dregs of a gospel that could be left over would be one in which I only really cared for myself. Anyone else who goes to heaven is an intrinsically disposable “nice to have.” The only possible way to mitigate this selfishness and maintain a shred of honesty was to be profoundly miserable about it. It really stumbles me to see people who don’t believe this ever laugh, ever smile, ever enjoy anything at all, and be so downright irresponsible, from a risk management perspective, to have children. Let alone sleep beyond their absolute bare minimum physiological needs.

I want to thank you for sharing. I had been a fundamentalist with a strong emphasis on dominion theology( purple, red and blue) when I began to see the parables and actions of inclusion of Jesus calling me to be more respectful to the outcast ( those outside the tribal bubble or system of laws) How do you love your enemies? How do you befriend the outlaw when you are afraid to meet with them let alone speak to them? To top it off how do you overcome the church’s bubble culture that discourages you to hang out with the outcasts? How can you be free to listen to their perspective….their story in order to really gain their trust and befriend them. How do you genuinely connect with anyone if you are fearful? How do you love your perceived enemies? One of my biggest struggles has been trying to learn to be more inclusive of our select outcasts in the presence of old Christian Friends who are deeply blue, red and purple. I tried to explain to them how I see the parables and actions of Jesus as calling us to be loving to the outsider. I recalled Jesus saying ,”whatever you do to the least of them you do to me trying to show them how much Jesus identified with the outcast. I even recalled Jesus saying on the cross, “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they are doing”. Through the lesson on Spiral dynamics you have confirmed my understanding that God wants us to be open and loving to all people wherever they are on their journey without favoritism or prejudice… even Red, Purple, Blue Orange or Green Christians as well as the so called “outcasts”. I feel pretty alone right now. My current church is pretty inclusive to the poor and secular genzie. Has said no to political discussions and conversations, not wanting to alienate anyone unnecessarily. I don’t see leadership having an easy time of managing it in this volatile world. However, I personally feel isolated ready to burst, trying to manage the internal struggle I am having with managing the relations I have with others, seeing red flags everywhere. Boy, would I like to be turquoise and have a perspective that could transcend these controversies. I must depend on Christ and the spirit within me to recognize life is hidden in Christ to all be revealed at the proper time. Thank you for your message that helped open my perspective.
@JohnChaffeeTalksАй бұрын
Thank you for such a nice long reply. I am glad that the video seems to have struck a chord with you. The framework of spiral dynamics completely changed the way I understood the world and faith and myself and society and so much more. When I have the chance to teach it in seminary classes, it is always eye-opening for people. Stay on the path, keep growing, all will be well.

I love it John! Thanks for this! You know, another thing that came to mind as you were listing the things that can pull us up: saints, mystics, holy fools, and scripture, was the idea of returning to our sacred texts In the state of a second nievete. I don't remember offhand who it was that originally discussed that, but I think I first encountered it in one of Brian Zahnd's books (If memory serves me correctly, it was a fairly recent one on deconstruction). At any rate, as I understand it, a second nievete reads scripture through a childlike sense of wonder, but the difference is that it has already gone through the dark night of the soul, no longer limited to a simplistic understanding of inspiration. It can sit with the critical theorists but is still able to find rest for the soul.

Can mature leaders pull people up?
@JohnChaffeeTalksАй бұрын
Absolutely! In mathematics, there is the principle of a "strange attractor." When one agent rises up, it naturally pulls some of those around them up, similar to a magnet. They can't affect everyone, and leaders have more of a range than others, but if you get enough leadership rising up, then you hit a tipping point, and the whole will rise up. Jesus rose from within Judaism and elevated others up with him into something new: Christianity.

They sure fixed up the stone house. It used to be all broken up, and there was none of the furniture there. Wonder who decided to do that. Nice to see the place again. The idea with the prayer notebook is not to hide your prayers, you're supposed to have them out there for other people to pray for you. There are some older ladies who live in New Haven and all the other places close by who come out a couple times a week and pray through that whole note book and all the prayers on the walls. So you're always prayed for.

A flag is the emblem of the state and states power, and state power demands subservience and brooks no competition. We were made to pledge allegiance to the flag every morning as kids, I repent for this now and would rather a flag of any kind not be brought anywhere near a gathering of Gods people. Give me king Jesus and nothing else. Cursed is the man that trusts in the arm of flesh.

There are so many holes in your arguments. Why wasn't Gregory of Nyssa condemned as a hieratic? Because he didn't create the belief. It was always pinned as Origen's belief. When they condemned Arianism, they condemned Arius. They didn't condemn others who held to his view because they way they do it is condemn the source. Plus with Gregory, there are two things. His univeralistic beliefs weren't his main beliefs he spoke on. It was a side belief. But the most pivotal thing about Gregory was that towards the end of his life, He began to contradict is old beliefs on Universalism in his third book. The thing is, you guys keep reaching for things that don't exist. The argument you made was that there was no formal writing on the council. Let's just use a little common sense from it. Did they start believing in unversalism after it??? No.... Of course not. Nobody did after that. So the lie that gets peddled was that people did believe it, but there was no scholarship at all proving that any them after that council held to Origen's beliefs. It wasn't preached at all.
@JohnChaffeeTalks2 ай бұрын
Thank you, Marty. However, I never said I believed in universalism or that anyone else did from Christian history. The whole series of videos I made talks about the restoration (Acts 3), reconciliation (Col. 1), and renewal of all (Matt. 19). I invite you to read George MacDonald (whom CS Lewis considered a mentor), Dostoevsky, Isaac of Nineveh, Julian of Norwich, Athanasius of Alexandria, Irenaeus of Lyons, and Maximus the Confessor. You may be surprised by what you read from these figures we often call “the saints of the Church.” Not forget Jesus’ own words in John 12, “When the I am lifted up, I will draw/drag/persuade all people to myself.”
@martyb41082 ай бұрын
@@JohnChaffeeTalks C'mon, don't do the semantics thing. 25 years ago, Christians who believed that all would go to heaven called themselves Universalists. Now it's just repackaged differently with new words and new labels. You all use the same arguments, you just use the Greek word, "Apokatastasis" as if it sounds more legitimate. Every Christian believes in "Apokatastasis", but like any belief or theology, it's how it is interpreted. To a believer who thinks all will go to heaven, they see "All" universally and to the ones who believe some will go to heaven, they see "All" within a framework. Why do they see it all in a framework? Because of what other scriptures say to help create that framework. If There was only one verse in the bible and that verse was the verse that talked about how "all things" will be reconciled, then it would make sense to see the word "All" as being universal. John 12, has always been interpreted as if Jesus is shown to people, He will be able to draw them. It was never viewed as an automatic to all people. And how do we know that? Because we know all were not drawn to Jesus even when he was lifted up because we have the book of Acts and Jesus was talked about and still rejected by pharisees. Paul was the only one who came over. The rest didn't and were judged like Jesus said they would be in Matt 23 in 70 AD and the fall of Jerusalem.

I was sad to see that you are looking to the mystics. These are all followers of the occult, either directly or indirectly. I watched your series about the restoration of all things and found a lot of truth in your scripture based presentations. I am not sure how the Yeshua will choose to judge us all in the end but I trust Him because He is Good and Just and Perfect! Please do not put your trust in Man or in the doctrines of Man. Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and although the mystics and spiritualism may seem appealing to you, it is NOT the Father's way. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. You will sow whatever you reap. I am praying for you that you will choose the straight path that leads to life.🙏 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:25-27. Please pray about this!
@JohnChaffeeTalks2 ай бұрын
If you look closely, you will see that I am still devoutly christian. Christian mysticism is not the same as the occult, although that is the prime conception. If you look at the Bible, there are many mystical encounters (the transfiguration is a big one), and many of the early church fathers and mothers, the desert monastics, and the saints and sages of the centuries were all mystics. I highly suggest taking a look at the whole of the Christian tradition!

I love and appreciate what you have to say here about Bonhoeffer, the Imago Dei and ethics.... It brings to mind the close association I've been reading about between the "inner man" and "conscience" in Romans - Some are proposing a very convincing link between the "inner man" (which is being renewed/renovated) and the Image of God in us (which I believe is Christologically inseparable from the revelation that Jesus IS "the image of God" - i.e. that He, as the Archetype of humanity, is "stamped' upon the "being" of every human - yet "hidden", awaiting disclosure, through the work of the Spirit, which "hydrates" that "seed" through Baptism [one could argue]). Thanks for this, John - Let's talk soon, my brother!
