Dragging with Planer boards for blue catfish, explained (OHIO RIVER)

Cast netting shad and running planer boards was key on a good day of fishing. In this video I explain how I net shad on the main river and how I like to run my boards out,, Along with a ton of fish catching with dad. Using fresh cut shad and frozen skipjack. Trophy cat tackle Was used on my side of the boat The original clear planer boards were the board for the day

River Lunacy, Can't wait till the Bluecats are Big enough here in Pittsburgh Pa. They just reintroduced them last year. Keep them coming. Got a 41 pound Flathead last Saturday Night. God Bless

That’s awesome man. As long as you guys have some kind of regulations, it won’t take long for them to get big. 10 years or so. Unfortunately we are bombarded by commercial fisherman so our fish don’t have much of a chance out here.

Another good trip. I finally was able to get my kayak out on the river. First time I’d been in it since my early April trip to Tennessee. 🙁. Was on the main channel for awhile but winds made it harder than I felt like dealing with. Ended up dragging the creeks. Bite was slow but got a couple. None to brag about.

I don’t recall the wind ever going this far into the season like it has been this time. I was out Sunday and it felt like 20 mile an hour blowing me all over the place. I got a few myself. glad to hear you getting out

Ive always herd u can make a barrel style garcias or really about any of them u care to let me no what u think about how they speed up the retreval i got a 65 a66 and a 75 a madter same as 65 reel and a penn but all these are very closely made thanks ser

I got my days when I can’t even throw a net ha ha but usually I try to make it count the best I can. Yeah, there’s all different speeds on them. It will say what the gear ratio is on the side of them usually or on the box.

Great video, awesome seeing your dad so excited, great explanations. How do you got the down view on your traditional like that?

It’s a Garmin echo maps. It all came like that. Also have a map on there. Total of three little screens running at a time. I like running all three that way I know where I’m at and then also exactly what I’m looking at between the two screens because I definitely don’t have it keyed in perfect. I’m not the greatest with the electronics.

Hello can u tell me if those planner boards are easy to make or not or better to just buy themive fished in lake comberland for strippers to keep the bait we we put it but i didnt no what u think about them i figured it would help when uts really got a swift current

I usually weedthrough them and throw the smaller ones in to grow up on the shad and then whatever’s left. I vacuum pack and use for a little bank fishing trips or give them to my friend that Fishes on the bank so they never get wasted. Was using a 3 1/2 ounce dragging weight they will run through majority of your snags pretty good.

It’s a great advantage when there’s not enough flow for drifting. I would much rather drift. I just feel like the fish fight better and the suspended takedowns are too much fun ha ha. Thanks Mike appreciate it man.
