@@Babyjoker2222 That's true that Cyberpunk 2077 was a nightmare, but Bioware and Team Bioware are in a completely different position than CDPR. CDPR is a small team relatively new to big title development, and doesn't have the assets that Bioware has at its disposal, especially for an established, iconic title like Dragon Age. I don't think that's a very equitable comparison, unless in the opposite sense, that CDPR was making a long-term project that likely would have been exceptional if not for sudden crunch and triage due to the pressure of an early release being put on their product. That would apply quite aptly here, to the concerns Jack brings up, but definitely not in the sense that you're intending.

@GabrielPassarelliG3 жыл бұрын
For me, multiplayer was the biggest difficulty of the game. So many variables might have been needed to make sure it was a live service. A single player campaing can be exaustive in depth, but is much easier to develop because, in spite of all narrative branches, it still is in its core linear enough.

I think the emphasis on "crunch" and avoiding "crunch" is misplaced. Everyone has to crunch sometimes, its the nature of working in a job with responsibilities. As an attorney, I crunch routinely when doing trial prep. Its the nature of the beast that crunching is the best way to get that kind of work done. The important part though is that I have planned the work already and am simply executing that plan. Crunch becomes a problem when it gets used as a Band-Aid to cover up poor strategic planning. I don't want the team to crunch for sake of getting the game out by some arbitrary 2022 deadline, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try to if its actually feasible within reason. Crunching for 3 months non-stop is obviously way over the line. A few weeks to a month to get the finishing touches on a majore, multi-million dollar project, feels reasonable to me.
@gutza17823 жыл бұрын
I would point out that one of the reasons DAI's production stage took three years was that it was the first time BioWare was working with the Frostbyte engine and they encountered a lot of teething issues. In addition, they also suffered from not having planned stuff enough during pre-production. This time around, production should go much smoother, so it's feasible that the game could come out in very late 2022. As for the live-service stuff, it should be a lot easier to cut a feature out than to add an entirely new one. It'll also mean less stuff to debug.
@GabrielPassarelliG3 жыл бұрын
I also think like that. And the hype that there is may be an indicative of more budget to hire more technical staff to speed things not by crunch, but by a bigger team. And Jackdaw itself revealed insider comments of new pieces of code brought into Frostbite to deal with problems and difficult stuff from the last games, and to be built upon Anthem code base may indicate that a lot of things are pre-baked and ready to just assemble and run. I'm really optimistic this time, specially after the rumors of a pre-Alpha build leak.
@GabrielPassarelliG3 жыл бұрын
I really don't think it's necessarily good to delay it further. More time to work on any one project that has being worked on during almost a decade doesn't prevent burn out. For me, after entering the production stages, the wisest is to combine less individual pressure and stress building and more people working at the same time. Simply developing something already conceptualized is kinda straight forward. It's like an engineer building something that has been planned exaustively for many years. The more hands the better, because what to do is already established. There's no need to delay it now. The time required to extend the production and testing stages to not crunch anybody would mean almost the same in budget than to temporarily hire people to make the buldge of things. Also, a fast project development with little individual crunch makes everyone more excited and eager to do their best.

There's been so much pressure on them and the fact that so many people have left BioWare recently is worrying but I just wish that people who still work there could completely ignore 'fans' who try to rush them or who rant about 'the end of BioWare'. I don't necessarily want that, I'd prefer to see the game get as much time as the developers think it needs, but I think from a fiduciary standpoint, EA is going to feel the need to get it out the door. Dragon Age 2, Andromeda, and Anthem are all evidence they're willing to do that even if a game hasn't had all the time it needs. I think all your analysis on why it's not fully baked though is spot on. Great job putting this together.

Also, EA has the habit of taking more people to speed thing up, and that may be the case here. I also think that the further they delay it, the bigger the budget gets, and they may be wanting to spend such money grabbing more people to join and release it sooner for getting money back sooner. Firstly, I'm an Avatar (the movie) fan, meaning I've been waiting for its sequel since 2009 (the first sequel is releasing in 2022, so it's been A WHILE), so I'm certainly used to waiting. Secondly, given the hard lessons BioWare had to learn with Andromeda and Anthem, I think they'll be particularly careful to not make the same mistakes. They're completely reworking the project, and the team deeply loves the world they have created throughout DA. I am cautious, of course, but also highly optimistic.

I want them to be proud of what they give us. And I know the only way that will happen is if they are given the time they need to work on DA4. We are all anxious, but we must be patient. They are people, after all. Not machines. The thing I worry about is EA and whether or not they will rush Bioware to meet a deadline. The best first move was realizing that the studio thrives on making singleplayer experiences and that when they are allowed to do so they make money. Hopefully the next step will be giving them more time to go back to singleplayer and properly develop the game as it was meant to be just like how the team envisioned it. I truly hope they are having a blast making DA4 and are staying healthy and safe.

All i ask is that it carries all the features from dragon age inquisition and not remove them such as great characters, horse riding, open world ,creatable armour/weapons, and different playable races. other then that ill be more then happy to be patient :3 but if they would kindly bring back the hero of ferelden or at least wrap up there story id be thrilled!
@TyrbeTrost3 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping they remove the open world at least. Or if they go the semi open route like with Inquisition at least I hope they make it interesting like with the Witcher, and not just a drag. Building the open world more like Origins is what I'm hoping for.
@SeventhheavenDK3 жыл бұрын
No, open world not again, please! And also, I hope they don't make you press a button all the time to find loot, that was annoying, I don't understand why they just didn't add the same kind of lights above the loot like in Origins and DA2. Edit: And yes, I want to see the Hero of Ferelden again.

Not expecting the game to release until late 2023 to mid 2024 I just want to see gameplay and some more concept art at EA play.

I dont care if it takes them another 5 years to make DA4 so long as they do it right and give us an amazing game (and a game they are proud to present to us) we can wait.
@cupcakeco13 жыл бұрын
I can happily wait a bit longer if it means crunching is completely off the table. My only worry is that BioWare may go back on their word like many corporations do to suit their whims.

If I had a trailer to watch I think I'd be ok waiting till 2023

It stings to say it but im willing to wait to the mid 2020's if they need the time to clean things up. Enough people going on about how 'Bioware is dead' already without DA4 being rough around the edges

Honestly, with all the reselling bs with the ps5, I am all for waiting at least 2 more years. Besides, you can't rush a masterpiece
@Supernova0943 жыл бұрын
They also got ME4 releasing in next few years, they'll probably make sure they're separated by an year or half an year.

I'm just thankful that the multi-player aspect was removed. Knowing that, Bioware can take as long as they need. Besides, if it takes another 3 to 4 years, maybe my broke ass will be able to afford a PS5 by the time they release it. ♡ Unless a PS6 is out by then, in which case, just fml. 😆
@vhenan23413 жыл бұрын
@Kenji azure Dragon Age is not the kind of game/story meant for a multi-player experience. Doing so would have been the ruination of the series from there on. It would essentially end up being another Anthem. No thanks. I'll pass.

We'll definitely have to see what happens with EA Play. If we can get a hint of gameplay or anything story related, then it'll definitely be 2023. I just want it to be consistently good.

of course I would love to see game in 2022, and still hope we will, heck I'd like to see ti right now of course. But I agree with you, 2023 is more realistic, and in the end better for the game and development and Bioware. And we do want the best game we can get- this has to be best DA yet! After everything Bioware went through in recent years this is one game they absolutely CAN'T afford to rush.
@monkey-chin48353 жыл бұрын
maybe they should use some of joplins components
@johnklaassen91253 жыл бұрын
Good info but i'm still nervous about; will they use the Frostbite engine? (hope not!) To big (like Valhalla) empty open world? Can they find the "Origin" atmosphere again?

Given Bioware’s EA Play Live announcement today, I have to agree with the 2023 launch window. I’m impatient and dying for content, but I can respect their desire to protect the team. I’d rather have a good game and healthy team than a rushed/shoddy game and crunch environment.

As much as I'd love to see DA 3 in 2022 I would rather have it later so it is better.

I think it should be delayed till 2030 or 2050 till it can be term as Nostalgic Forgotten Game till the Game Producers are well Dead.

After Anthem and ME: Andromeda, I’d be happy to wait until the end of 2023 if that meant that the team could work in peace and with a good, structured workflow, and minimal crunch. Unfortunately, Anthem showed that “taking longer” does not necessarily equal “better quality.” I’m happy to wait, and I’m crossing my fingers, but I’m also a little worried regardless. Just hoping that Anthem’s fate as well as the pandemic have taught those in decision-making positions a lesson.

Yes an delay's like cyberpunk ( 4-5 or however many they issued out ) Dosen't always mean a great game.
