Goodluck Jesse. This game is HUGE, and it's not particularly easy. The dragons in this game make the ones in Skyrim look like meek kittens. They will kick your ass sideways. The areas are large as hell and pack a ton of quests. You can spend hours alone just TALKING to people, let alone using your advisers at your keep. Considering that you're an (in)famous lore nerd, I feel bad for anyone watching this who isn't. Let me put it like this: Origin has 19 hours logged in this game, and I've barely advanced the plot because I've been doing side quests and lore hunting.

yea, if its anything like Skyrim, this playthrough doesn't bode well for Jesse lol, it isn't that he will do all the sidequests, its that he forgets what he is doing, goes on the sidequests, and never remembers what he was originally doing lol...god love him though :)

The BEARS in Skyrim make the Dragons look like meek kittens...without mods at least. Enhanced Dragon Combat+Dragon Combat Overhaul= Hours of crying behind a Pillar hoping the dragon wont nom on your nards. In any case, greatly looking forward to this lets play, although i may play it myself before I watch Jesse's run.

Despite people's constant whining and complaining, I'm liking the game so far. Does it have flaws? Duh, what game doesn't? But it's still good. I've seen Baldur's Gate mentioned alot, about choices and crap..I'd like to point out to you guys that your choices don't matter in the BG games anymore than this game. The ending is always the same, you kill Sarevok, you kill Irenicus. Nothing you do changes this outcome. Now I love the games. Unlike you whiners, I don't mind this at all. Bioware is pretty much the last big developer of RPGs like this. They still make decent fun games, and that's all that matters.

The BG2-humping is annoying, but I'd like to reject the notion that bioware is the last big developer of expansive RPG's. Obsidian has Pillars of Eternity coming out soon. CDProjekt Red has The Witcher 3 coming out early 2015. Those are both large developers.

I agree, I absolutely love BG and BG 2 but the amount of people with these crazy rose tinted glasses is pretty damned absurd. Baldurs Gate 2 is great but its still pretty basic. Its a dice rolling RPG with side missions. Thats it, its polished but that really is it. Sure there are a few ways to muck around in the world, but people dont seem to realize that when you have to have EVERYTHING voice acted and when you have to make fun and interesting environments in 3D that its quite bit tougher. So when people say "Baldurs Gate 2" was more expansive the answer should be "no shit Baldurs Gate 2 is nowhere near as complex and difficult to make as this game.

so, 3 minutes after being held prisoner, threatening to kill him, and not wanting him to have a weapon, Cassandra suddenly gives no shits about the prisoner looting the corpses of her allies, completely raiding someones home, being given combat commands by her prisoner, and her prisoner can run in the opposite direction to gather kilos of iron ore.

Joshua Voshell well usually role playing allows you to have an impact on the story. Like what if you wanted to play as a pious templar who would rather kill himself than be tainted by the source (and thus basically become friends with the inquisition chick)? Not gonna happen, sorry, inquisition chick is always going to be a bitch no matter who you want to roleplay as. I'd rather have no choice than an illusion of choice, because in the end they're the same thing. Choices should have effects on the game.

People who are "Die hard RPG lovers" think the casual gamer is ruining their experience. And quite frankly, I don't think they know what the fuck they want. I swear the people who are badmouthing this game want a big ass DLC for DA:O. "Bring ___ Back from Origins" Is all I'm hearing. Quite frankly you would complain if they released a full 60$ game with ONLY an extended storyline, EVERYONE would be pissed, reasonably speaking. But what else will please them? Honestly, this is the game we've been given, and I DO miss some things about origins and I DO miss the old controls for PC and I DO love tactical camera, but getting a new game should NOT mean getting a graphics and storyline upgrade. Some differences are not welcome but oh well I got a brand new 60+ hours of gameplay that I didn't get before. Is that not enough for most people?

It's just that it's Dragon age dude. Dragon age Origins was an incredible game that was actually the game that got me into gaming (I played games before, but that one made me actually get interested in the industry). So we wanted it to be as good as it could be. Dragon age Origins was a game with a great story/sidequests, interesting characters, good choices in dialogue and strategic combat (although rather monotonous due to bad/constantly repeating animations and slow style). So when the game we had been looking forward to comes out and disappoints us of course we are going to be upset especially when it focuses so far from the source material (and in my opinion fails even at that dragon age 2 combat was better :( ). All in all we just love it so much that we wanted it to be perfect and that hype combined with how Bioware misled us a bit ( I read that the game was supposed to be tactical..... just look at the tactics section) led to a big disappointment. It may be 60+ hours of gameplay but I would of prefered those hours to be more enjoyable is all. Standalone it is a good game (not great but still good) but as a dragon age sequel I can't help but fell it disappoints.

Bioware has changed the combat in every Dragon Age game because DAO's combat appealed to a small vocal group. Bioware's trying to please both their hard core fans and appeal to a mass market; you can't please everyone.

SwingDancer61 You're right, it's obvious that that was what they were trying to pull off however I feel that it failed at it. The tactical part of the game is practically gone now, in fact I feel that dragon age 2 combat was more tactical (When I look at the tactics menu of DAI I want to cry). In fact the only 'tactic' I ever used was to manually make my ranged characters walk away from the melee enemies. However because they attempted to make the combat more tactical, they end up slowing down the action part of the combat a bit. So in the end you get combat that is slow enough to irritate some people killing their fun a bit and not strategic enough to even be called semi-tactical. I personally feel they should of committed to either one or the other without trying to play the middle ground. But hey that is just my opinion, and I'm sure their are people out their who genuinely enjoy the combat, it's just not for me though.

I don't really think that's fair though. Why should a game require you to spend a total of 20 hours+ before getting to have an opinion on the game? Think about that, you just asked somebody to spend almost an entire day and, very likely, more than an entire waking day playing a single game. I'll agree on a single 46 minute video being faulty but it's kinda faulty to argue this way. That and what if the game doesn't catch you at all or you don't even play it? What if you observe reviews, gameplay, etc and get an opinion from that?

Shen Jones Everyone's got their own cup of tea. For some, this will be the perfect batch, for others it'll be the cancer of the internet, and for others still it'll be lukewarm or some other mixture. I was more playing devil's advocate in this argument really. Is it going to be my favorite rpg? Probably not. From what I've viewed and played myself, I think that Origins is better in many ways, feel like NV is better, the original 2 Fallouts are better, and Planescape Torment are better along with a few more. Is it a bad game though? Not really in my opinion. I'll have fun with it, I'll enjoy it but I'm probably not going to play it through as often as Origins or the other games. Really though, I was more just trying to criticize the notion that you needed 20 hours of experience in a game to judge it. Not everyone has the time to dump into it and if somebody's not pleased with the first 20 hours then you really can't argue that they aren't deep enough into the game to judge it. That's the amount of time that you can get done with several movies, plays, or even other video games in their entirety :P

I know some people hate watching Jesse run around in circles looking for loot, but that's the main reason I watch Jesse's let's plays before anyone else's. Watching other let's players pass by loot because they are trying to forge ahead with the story drives me nuts! Plus, Jesse is always very perceptive and very into the story which makes it more interesting than a lot of let's players who talk over or ignore lore.

i tend to hide it as well during recording, due to feeling like it kind of breaks the game immersion, when on screen. That and it'd just stand out and be somewhat distracting. At least that's how I feel about it, I might be the only one, but I don't think that's entirely the case ^^'

Jesse it is an OPEN WORLD RPG, you want to get as much loot as possible and that is fine. But if you can spend 20 videos just looking for herbs and ores and lets be frank you do not have the charisma to pull people to watch you collect herbs. The game is called Dragon Age, not Herb Gathering. Look for the loot, but stop running in circles for several minutes like a particularly dim dog.

To be honest, it's either "check all the places for loot" and get the items now, or the next video will be "I got like a bajillion messages telling me 'Hurr Jesse you're so bad, you missed something expensive!' so we're going to go back 3 areas to get it." and I'd feel bad for Jesse if he got those kind of messages. Let him play how he wants - he's always like this, hence his comments directed at the NPC. If you have watched enough videos of his to know his level of charisma, then you know that's how he always plays.

Also, not wanting to blow everything on cutting edge graphics doesn't excuse selling something that would've looked only decent 5 years ago. Keep in mind that Jesse has a really powerful system, so imagine how bad this game would look on a lower setting.

CianCQ I don't need to imagine, I have a weaker system and it doesn't look half bad on lower settings. Solokeh Krontos That is sort of the thing with bioware, they use a lot of tropes, and very overly used archetypes for characters in a way aswell as somewhat used ideas for books and such, but then they push it deeper and immerse it into the lore once answers start to come in this game, it becomes a lot more complex, and I really do enjoy it Not saying you are wrong or that you can't hate it because in a sense it was ripped off, just saying they do it well which is what matters to me also you do get quite into political intrigue and espionage later on

I refunded the Game already, after ~7hrs of playing. First of all, the Refund-System on Origin works great. I had my money back in seconds! But thats the only good thing about it. Now to the Game: Its not a bad Game, but you clearly see its made for the Casual-Crowd. I played all the 7hrs on Nightmare and only died at the Tutorial-Boss, beacause I did not see the Crystal above me (Camera...), so the Tactical-Cam is completly useless and probably just a PR-Thing. With Mouse and Keyboard the Game plays very bad, fucking Leftclick is attack even out of Combat - wtf? You can't move with the Mouse and there are no Secondary Keybindings, le fuck? The Game is like Star Wars 1-3, it wants to be for everyone, but does not make anyone real happy. There is obviously a lot of Content, but most of it are boring fetch-Quests even more boring than in WoW. One of my first Quests in the Hinterlands was to get 10 Ram-Meat ...YAY! -_- So, if you expect a indepth RPG like Origins with a lot of choices that matter and a tactical combatsystem, that challenges you - well, you are out of luck. Better play DA:O again. I will rebuy the Game on a Sale, but 45$ for the Digital Deluxe is not worth it for me, especially since I know there will be DLC. I hope my Cloudsaves are still there and I can use them in the future again.

Calling absolute bullshit on Origins being a challenge. It only is if you make it out to be by making deliberatly wrong choices. Otherwise it is hillarious easy to break, even on nightmare. Seriously. You can solo that game with mage if you pick the right build. All of this feels like complaints of people that still think RPGs stopped at Baldurs Gate and have no right to evolve in any way, because it automaticaly makes them bad,

***** You gotta realise that DA:O was a tactical RPG, and while DA 2 had gone a more actiony route, it was still possible to partially play it as a tactical RPG. And while Bioware (and EA) have promoted the tactical view, and said it is possible to play the game tactically, that is not actually true. One reason is that you cannot move with left mouseclick. WASD is fine for most things, but you cannot position 4 characters at once with it. Non-indie squadbased tactial RPG's in this vein are incredibly rare. The last one I can remember prior to DA O and DA 2 is NWN 2. So people desiring that are naturally dissapointed, since this was their only high-budget shot at getting the game they were hoping for (and also were promised it would be). On the other hand action RPGS are extremely common.
