I mean, when you're young it's not really that you don't see story issues, it's more that you don't really care cause things are a decent time-waster. Fable always felt like a very simple, basic, don't-think-about-it-too-much story, but that was part of its charm, including your ability to do right and wrong. It's when we get older we naturally become more snobby and critical of things since we're no longer happy-go-lucky youths, and can't enjoy things as much.

to be fair, it doesn't say that the hero of oakvale actually did it it just says that its rumored to have happened shortly after or before the hero went to fight jack a second time point being its still left ambiguous, and its possible someone else got tired of the guildmasters shit. Though they have LOTS of mentions of the sword of aeons as well.. though that could be just the avos tear (they look similar in shape) but the only thing going for it is really shape. my guess is its the devs/writers way of trying to be like "this is most likely the canon options" without actually stating as such also remember in fable theresea mentions multiple worlds and timelines, so its possible some weird multiverse shit is going on, which explains heros in fable 2, and fable 3 jespar even mentions how your father designed something to connect and communicate with these other worlds, with other heroes.

I remember being too goddamned terrified to go into Darkwood when I was younger. It wasn't the area itself, although the creepiness didn't do anything to help, it was those bloody Balverine's. They came back in future games but they weren't nearly as annoying as they were in the original. In future games, you could stun-lock them and just kill them easily. They didn't get nearly as bad invincibility frames and were easy to avoid even with a young and not very tactical mind. But in this game, I mentally shat myself whenever they jumped in the air and would roll around like an idiot to avoid getting dropped on. They also never seemed to die to my master longsword which was really annoying too. Mini rant aside, there's so much about this game that I haven't found in any other game no matter how much I look for it. Yeah, Fable takes the older, Ancient Greek definition of “hero” as the norm- being an unusually powerful demigod of sorts who is destined for great, if not necessarily good things. I actually always found that idea quite interesting, because other games just wouldn’t use the word “hero” at all unless it was good stuff you were doing. I always thought that the reason you lose the ability to use magic in jail is because the guards confiscated your Guild seal. I don't think it's ever stated explicitly, but given that you need it to teleport, I always assumed that it helped you focus your other magic powers, too. Like, will is innate to the user, but isn't really all that useful without something to focus and direct it with. Like wands in Harry Potter.

Fable 1 - The Lost Chapters will forever hold a special place in my heart. I was maybe 12 or so when I first got this game, and the athmosphere created in the game through the music and game design was just magic to me. Just as an example, the Darkwood Trader Escort Quest: Being 12 Years old and deciding if you let a dude that got bitten die on his own in this forsaken place, or taking the risk he could be turning into a balverine himself was just mindwrecking to me then. I recently replayed it with a good friend of mine together and still can recommend it a ton, I have to say this is one of the games I will always remember for being truly unique. Then a person finally got into the cube, and there was a video of Molyneux saying "we could have just given the winner a ton of money, or a car, but we will do something better, we will make the winner into a literal God" and then Molyneux did an advertisement for his upcoming super shitty mobile micro transaction game, and promising the winner that they would get to influence the game "like a God" and would get "a small portion of the revenue". So okay, the winner tried to contact Molyneux, and the team replied that he will get his prizes later. He kept mailing them once per month until they stopped replying. Two years later he went to the press to say he STILL had not received the prize. Molyneux promised via the press that he would take care of it. But he didn't. That was in 2015. you forgot the mystical frying pan........its a side quest to find a frying pan for someone in a town or something, but the frying pan is made with mystical properties so at the very end you must toss something in that's mystical not just the sword. so at the very end when you take the sword, switch out the sword for the frying pan and toss that in and it willl think you tossed in the sword. then sit through all the credits, do NOT just hit the x button to skip the credits. once they run through, it'll ask you to continue and you'll play after the last saved point WITH the sword. my faorite bit was augmenting a strong weapon to gather mana energy each time it killed an enemy and then enter berserk mode which gives greater strength and endurance with slightly slower speed (unless you dash). once you max your stats for damage then you one hit monsters in normal but remember you're in berserk mode and since your weapon is refueling your mana you never leave berserk mode while you're continually attacking, sooooo that's why i like going to the grey house and just getting rich cause each monster also drops money so if they are never ending and you are just one hitting with invisibility then you go ham.

I strongly disagree that the evil ending in The Lost Chapters is more compelling. If you read the hero's journal, it's revealed that the mask still contained the essence of the Jack of Blades. He completely possesses the hero, mocks him for having a journal and declares in it how he has everything he needs now to dominate the world. The Sword of Aeons with the heroes' mother and sister's essence in it, and the heroes battle-tested body. Why would the player character, even if he's pure evil, surrender his body and soul over to the Jack of Blades? It's a complete possession, too. Jack writes something along the lines of "he's gone, only the Jack of Blades remains!" or something like that. It's not a merging of souls. Why give his mind and body to Jack when Jack has caused all this mayhem in his life? The "Hero" may be evil, but, I presume he wouldn't want to give his entire being over to the bad guy who he killed in the first part of the game and who has constantly been taunting/insulting/mocking him throughout both the original and the DLC/expansion. It doesn't really make sense. If the player is evil, then Jack is more of a rival than someone you'd want to give your unlimited power to. Even in my evil playthroughs, I threw the mask away immediately after trying it once and discovering the journal entry. I would get a buttload of karma for doing it but then I'd go sacrifice some folk to Skorn to make up for it, haha. Anyway, just my two cents. I found this ending to be more compelling until I saw the journal and the implication it gave that the player was now Jack and he had fallen for Jack's plan.
@jafaral-z10904 жыл бұрын
it's less of an implication and more of a statement honestly, jack of blades is immortal- this we keep getting told by books and his general reputation as being roughly 10-20x stronger than all the top teir heroes which seems legit if you've ever fought thunder... the mask IS jack the body is just a fool who wore it thinking that he would become that strong....he doesn't (jack gets a weak body but he himself is powerful, combine his strength and he's unstoppable but still only jack not you)

"Wear me, wear me and gods will envy your power. Wear me, and the world will bow at your feet. Wear me, and you shall be immortal." This is what the mask promises you. Power, immortality, ruling the world. It's not your character willingly surrendering body and soul; it's a trick claiming he will gain even more power (not that he necessarily needs it at this point, but I think it's plausible an insane evil character wanting all the power he can get). So by accepting the mask you aren't willingly inviting Jack in, you believe you're simply going to be stronger. Which is why I think this was an awesome ending/twist-in trying to become more powerful than...anything that has ever existed, the evil Hero loses themself to the mask-like previous heroes have done, continuing the cycle. Alternatively a good hero throws the mask away, defeating Jack once and for all.

The music in this game was second to none. The music, the art style, it all has this.... soothing effect. Wandering through Bowerstone and Greatwood in the first game was just enjoyable and pleasant. Fighting the Balverines in the Darkwood was terrifying. A great game, and will always be missed.

Great video, very jam-packed and it's always good to see someone's view on the Fable Games. No one really does it anymore... I always feel disappointed when I hear how much content was cut from this game. The open world, the amazing ideas like being able to change the world around you, not just your character. You can tell the developers tried their best to iron out what they can and make a solid game with what they had. I have been playing the game annually, ever since I was a kid and I honestly don't see that tradition ever changing. Thank you for the amazing memories, Lionhead Studios and may you guys find great work elsewhere.

With regards to Fable's charm and style, the closest things I can think of that match the game's character are the Discworld and Overlord series (both of which were penned by the Pratchetts, incidentally enough). Comic fantasy with a dash of dark humor and wit.

Fable would go down as one of the best action RPGs of all time had it not been for the unreasonable promises and hype. What it was and what it did was extremely innovative for its time, and it was presented in a fairly clean package without a lot of unnecessary bloat (which is my problem with later installments). It's just a fun game with a lot of character and a good amount of unique mechanics in a very streamlined package.
