But he chickens out and tells her about the vallaslin instead. And then, while he kisses her, he is ready to throw away who he used to be, but then realizes that would be betraying himself, and he breaks up with you so he can stay true to his purpose. Ahhhh! Why did I have to choose the saddest romance first ;;

Rivka Olstein Yeah, it was confirmed by Patrick Weekes in an interview that that's what is going on in his head as this scene unfolds. That's really why he was so hesitant about telling her about "the truth" because it was huge. He is the guy that her clan used to tell horrible stories about, and she might still believe them. Who knows how poorly Lavellan may react to that information. She could hate him, even worse, she could want to aid him. A fate he would not wish on an enemy. Let alone a friend. Let alone a *lover* And that's why it's like this. Weekes also confirmed the romance was added in just to make Solas's arc sadder, and damn did they do good with that.

On my most recent playthrough, I found the graveyard thing in the fade where the gravestones have everyone's deepest fears on them. I had somehow missed this in my original playthrough where I romanced Solas. When I read Solas' gravestone said "dying alone" I just had to lie down on the floor for a minute or two to collect myself. Romancing Solas is such an "I love dying and being dead" adventure.

I honestly wasn't all that bothered by this. I understand why people get emotional, and it's certainly moving... but I romanced Fenris in DA2. So this is actually the second time my elven lover (both of whom have some sort of relation to wolves, by strange happenstance) has decided to break it off right after we'd just had a very important moment together. As emotional as it should have been, I wasn't going "No, Solas, you're breaking my heart!" as much as "Oh, _for fuck's sake,_ not _this_ shit again!"

This scene is so meaningful after Veilguard. Solas was so intent on saving the Inquisitor from the well, because he was bound to Mythal himself...and learning how to remove the Valasslin didn't fully remove the bondage spell. Even as he rebelled against her, he was subconsciously forced to be loyal to her until she released him, even at the cost of personal happiness. Poor guy.

The scene at 01:00 is just so painful to watch, because if you know who Solas is, what Lavellan says to him, about never giving up, must resonates to him in such an way, since he pretty much helped to destroy his own empire while he was just trying to make things better, then he must have given up after seeing how badly he screwed up, and now to see the Inquisitor never giving up and aways pushing foward. Yeah, Weekes said on twitter (in response to someone asking him if they had sex) that he wanted to leave it up to interpretation. Considering that he's deceiving her in a sense, keeping such a huge part of himself a secret from Lavellan, sex is a delicate subject to bring into such a relationship. For some people, that's still no problem, and they can take these types of comments as insight to how their relationship has been off screen. Other interpretations could be that Solas didn't want "use" Lavellan in that way, without her knowing the truth, or perhaps that's just not what their relationship was about. Some fans might have gotten uncomfortable if they'd canonly hooked up with Solas, only to discover his part in the main plot.

FluffyNinjaLlama It's accessed via cave west of Crestwood village & north of the Three Trout Farm Camp. You go here for the quest "Wyrm Hole" which you get from a woman named Judith. The easiest way to get here is to go to the Three Trout Farm camp and go down the slope near the "Equip Potions" stand. Keep going until the road splits (right by the abandoned house) and then go right. You'll see a slope leading upwards with a chunk of red lyrium on it; go here, and follow the path all the way up until you get to a wolf statue. The cave is right there.

It's a break up, but this one lets you speed romance someone else, whereas the other one even though it seems like a break up, it isn't and you can't get involved with anyone else after that.
