The Trespasser story is just so sad, I mean Solas was one of if not the greatest heroes in Thedas' history. But his actions to save the world from the Evanuris destroyed the very people he was trying to protect and threw him into a slumber which lasted thousands of years, when he woke up he found that the very people he had tried to save had not only be reduced to less than shadows of their former selves but they had blacklisted him. And now he seeks to restore what he broke but the costs he knows are monstrous. Whatever comes I just hope that the Inquisitor and/or "The hero of Tevinter" will be able to redeem him.

FluffyNinjaLlama What really scares me is just how like my Inquisitor Solas is. Both are rebels at their cores (My Inquisitor fought for the Mage Rebellion), both rejected any claims of divinity, neither believes in gods, they both got their hands bloody, and both sought to radically reshaped the world though my Inquisitor was largely successful.

Keep in mind Solas' support came primarily from slaves in other words people who were less likely to even know how to read or write let alone obtain any authority after the collapse of their society which would have given them the power to write the story. Not to mention the sheer destruction caused by Solas sealing the Evanuris likely soured his reputation across all classes of Arlathanian society. Not to mention the chaos that would have followed lends itself well to details being lost especially over the course of thousands of years. To the Dalish's credit though their legends were half right in that Solas did seal their "gods" away stripping them of their immortality and dooming their civilization. The only details they're missing are (1) their "gods" were really just ridiculously powerful mages, (2) the reason Solas opposed them was because they were oppressive tyrants who enslaved who knows how many people, and (3) the reason Solas sealed them away wasn't spite but to punish them for murdering Mythal and to save the world.

Forget about redeeming Solas, I want to help Solas and make sure the damage to lowering the veil is minimal. I mean apart from restoring the world to it's probably natural state, the new game world would be amazing. Magic filled world full of spirits and fantazy. Elves becoming immortal again and an insane war against the false elven gods. Priceless!

British Blue What makes you think that? They kept Flemeth and her schemes going throughout 3/3 titles. At this point I'm fairly confident about the franchise being about a world kept ignorant to the fact that they're suffering from an ancient elven war for pretty much ever! They can't take one out of two sides in this war just like that. Especially with Flemeth being off radar for now. Solas will come back and we will battle the old elven gods!

Lewie Tift From what i gather, 'true' villains know they are villains. Solas might be a villain of sort, but a villain with a desire to restore his people. Corypheus was a villain, but one that wanted to restore Ancient Tevinter. Alexius, aiding with bringing forth chaos and misery, all in the name of saving his son. Villains, true, but with 'good' intentions at heart. "The end justifies the means," I suppose.

This also explains why solas doesn’t like the dalish. He spend so many years fighting the false gods, freeing the slaves of their markings, leading a rebellion and banishing the gods. Only to wake up a couple thousand years later to find all the colors in the world drained, magic being practically nonexistent compared to where he started, and the dalish now willingly put on slave markings with pride, not aware of what it truly was. The dalish use fen’harel as a curse and warning, when he literally spent years fighting this exact thing. Of course he got frustrated, it’s like “I literally destroyed the ancient elves so no one would have to wear this bullshit on their faces and y’all are trying to tell me you do it to HONOR the people who ENSLAVED YOU?!?!?!”

Unfortunately, DAI tells the story mostly from Fen'Harel's point of view. We don't see much of the other side of the story, why should we trust Solas over Mythal or the Dalish legends or the Evanuris when we inevitably meet therm in DA4? Solas was known as a trickster because he made a great promise that he didn't end up fulfilling. Does Solas really think removing the veil and bringing back the Evanuris will make it all fine and dandy? The Dalish will go back to being slaves under the Evanuris, they trade one master for another thinking they will be liberated. The Dalish haven't been enlightened to the nature of the veil and spirits the way Solas is. Meanwhile, Mythal wants to take revenge on the Evanuris, but maybe Mythal isn't as good as we like to believe either? Mythal has the markings of a villain too!

@@the11382 I wouldn't go that far. DAI showed another side to Fen'Harel. He isn't framed as a hero, but as a nuanced antihero/villain who's divisive actions caused suffering. If nothing else, he feels like a version of Zathrian that's even more entrenched in what he believes.

Trívia: Fen’harel is similar to Fenmarel Mestarine, The lone Wolf, the elven god of solitude and outcasts in the Dungeons and Dragons universe while In DnD a Mythal is a magical field that elves create to protect large areas (Usually their cities) with magical wards.

We think of Doctor Who as the hero. He locked away his whole planet to save the universe. Solas did the same on a smaller scale. The doctor wanted to free his people cuz he felt bad and hoped they learned a lesson. Solas is doing the same. It doesn't make him bad, it makes him "human". He feels guilty about the choice he made centuries ago & doesn't like how elves are treated. I don't like it either. I'm sure he'll change his mind like the doctor did, but again, wanting your people free is not an evil wish.

Am I'm not saying he's not misguided in not caring if the transition is rough, but he's trying to right a wrong he feels he created. Look at how the elves are living. How they're treated. It made him mad at what's become of his species. I'm not saying he's the hero. He's going down a dark road, but I can see his side, and I don't see him as evil like people try to make him out to be. Remember he was stealing slaves from the elven and giving them freedom. Bad guys don't do that.

Solas is truly one of the greatest tragic characters I've ever seen and I guess I understand his motivations. But, it just seems that Solas will be the antagonist of the next game. there's not much of a difference then say " When the chantry opened to defy slavery, it had become a slave owner themselves". Basically its an effect of a cause but not an intention or goal. Most likely the human won't literately die immediately but simply their way of life and how they look at things will be suicidal to them in this world ,like telling a child to drive a car to get to school.

This is late af, but-- I think it's super possible for Solas and Mythal to have been lovers. After your first kiss, Solas states that it has been a "long time". That in connection to his reaction towards Mythal having been killed and his believe that she was oh-so better than the others ( despite not doing anything for the Elves after the veil, but that /may/ be because of a lack of power, or her answer to the "betrayal" ) are good enough reasons to assume they were very close. However, in his personal quest you can see how angry he is at his friend dying, so if Solas and Mythal were friends then it's good enough of a reason too ( + him wanting to free the Elves from the "Gods" ). -- This is all pure speculation tho, because if they were lovers, then why wouldn't he wake up from his slumber still in love with Mythal? I can't imagining that fading during his slumber and/ or after he woke up.

They did not really touch on the Maker or the Old Gods.But the 'Evanuris' or the 'Elven Gods' are just mortal mages, very powerful, but mortal. The veil does not have demons, the fade/the beyond does and they are merely spirits but embodiments and reflections of the more bad emotions and feelings in the world of Thedas.

If you pay attention, you'll know that him being a "trickster god" is false and propaganda. The Evanuris and Elven nobles of Arlathan called him that because he rebelled against slavery which they loved. He pretended to be apart of their social circles so when he finally rebelled, they felt tricked.

It's actually unfair. After everything the elves of Thedas have been through in their history, It turns out there gods are not only false but tyrants who enslaved them, and their entire cultural identity is based on a lie. Why would it even be a question whether or not we should tell the elves about this, of course, we shouldn't. It would shatter their souls if they knew even if they didn't believe it at first.
