This game makes me see literal red. So many of my friends quit BioWare over this game's sequel and ME3. EA ran these good people into the ground with 18 hour days, seven days a week, ending up with people literally crying themselves hysterical in conference rooms. DAO and ME are literally genre defining games and stories, and all EA could think of was hitting their quarterly reports in the black. Disgraceful.

Par for the course on why a lot of gaming studios put out half-baked crap that is over-saturated with loot boxes and micro-transactions. EA, Ubisoft, Activision-Blizzard, and 2k are the biggest offenders that come to mind, but there are many others as well. Couple that with the abuse scandals within Ubisoft and Activision-Blizzard. I think Microsoft buying the latter will be a good thing. The quarterly reports can also be a lie in of themselves; they reflect initial sales, but not product retainability. They just create a perception of profit for investors and share-holders to remain on board. Battlefield 2042 is the latest game to really sink before it even floated and more people are becoming aware of how poorly modern gaming is by these mega-corporations.

It was a great game. Probably the best CRPG outside of the PC market. Honestly, I get the DLC thing. Most of the times it's not worth it. Like 20 bucks for a costume or something. But this was full story content which was good. Alot of that wasn't a must buy honestly. Most of it only held up if you really like the game and want more of it but Awakening was pretty much Dragon Age 1.5 which is cool. Some characters from Awakening even show up in 2.

Staying in the camp and talking to your companions while enjoying the sound of the bonfire + the music was an amazing and unique experience. I can't find an rpg that had so many memorable and interesting companions as dragon age did. From the stern, tough, serious and fair, but also gentle giant Sten. To the silly, naive, witty and funny, but also with a heart of gold Alastair. And of course we can't forget the first tsundere we meet in the game: Morrigan. She was a bitch. Cold, calculating, sharp, cunning. A bit rude too. But if you have patience to understand why she is the way she is, and talk to her, she might surprise you. Uff now thats a game you can play forever....its arguably the best RPG Bioware ever made (standalone its definitely the best, Dragon Age 1 rivals the entire mass effect trilogy) It has a lot of emotional scenes, plot twists, very interesting characters and is one of 2 games i know where you just stop to listen to your teammates banter cause its very interesting and at times hilarious. i can definitely recommend playing it once in your lifetime - forget about dragon age 2 and 3 they are rather bad, but 1 is definitely one of the best rpgs ever made. heck even the romance options and diversity were done right. It has some very interesting characters and you can make choices that affect the rest of the game storywise. I LOVE every bit of it. Heck even the combat is well done and entertaining. If you want to play the most interesting story start as human male noble - thats the one option that allows for the most impact on the world storywise and is also one of the best origin stories. Mages and elves are interesting for experiencing the biases and racism first hand though^^ Its also the one game i can recommend getting ALL the expansions and DLCs for they are all very good and add a lot to the game. Also you should do all quests not just for story but, believe it or not, most of them do affect the end of the game

the Origins Concept is actually more complex like all Origin storys are kinda accessible by anyother origin .. but its just later in the game, 2 examples: if you play as a human noble you will reach the dwarven city some day while progessing in the story and you will learn that there was a murder trial that acused the middle son of the dwarven king of murdering his older brother to get on the throne .....if you start out as a noble dwarf you actually ARE that middle son who is accused ... or later on you meet a city elf sitting in jail for murdering his patreon.... if you start out with the origin story of an city elf you ARE this elf in jail and experience his way how he gets there and so on ..so its kinda interesting to replay the game as another origin on my first run in the game i got 100h playtime on the clock till i reached the storys end and i got like 98,x% of the games content covered :-) and that was long before all those fancy DLCsi think my latest DLC was the Wardens Castel DLC back then :-)

Man, I haven't played Origins in freakin forever. It's fairly old, I wonder if my dinky little work laptop could run it at this point (if you can even still get it on PC, Bioware is one of those companies that does weird stuff with their launcher services and whatnot). I never did play any of the DLC content, though...and a lot of it is fairly well-renowned. I don't think I could do the Darkspawn Chronicles though, I love all the characters way too much to play as Darkspawn murdering them all. It's kind of one of those special games/franchises where the different people in your party really just feel like REAL PEOPLE. You can spend hours just having conversations with them in camp, building your relationships and coming to understand who they are. After a certain point, they kinda feel like family. Not a lot of games can REALLY do that like Origins did. The game's sense of humor is also fantastic, and it heavily comes from how well-realized the characters are. Some of their individual lines have cracked me up to no end, and the random conversations between your non-player party members that can pop up as you wander around the zones and levels can truly be just hilarious lol. Dragon Age 2 was a passable game, though it really had a lot of failings that stood out kinda hard. Parts of it were quite fantastic though, a lot of the story arcs involving the Qunari and the Arishok were frankly dope IMO. It does also happen to have a pretty cool cinematic trailer. I think the high point of the game was actually one of the DLCs that really stood out to me as just incredibly cool, and surprisingly ended up leading to the fundamental plot of Inquisition. Dragon Age: Inquisition was honestly fantastic IMO. It strayed a little from the more methodical and tactical RPG feel of Origins in favor of being a little more action-focused, but overall I think it moved the series forward really well with all kinds of great new characters and returning favorites...plus a story arc involving a straight-up badass of a main villain. Some of the zones and boss fights were truly epic, too. Bioware was starting to fall into some bad habits by this point, but I think the finished product we got was definitely worthy. Some of the quest-oriented DLCs were pretty awesome as well.
@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed Inquisition as well. I thought it was a step up from 2 although I will say that I didn’t feel the need to replay it as much as I did the first Dragon Age. Where I tried every combo and every story choice possible 😅 Will have to go back and do it again now with all the dlc 😁
@ericmartin88702 жыл бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Yeah the branching narrative paths weren't as present in Inquisition as they were in Origins, that's a fair point. The narrative itself was a bit more linear and didn't give a lot of the choice that Bioware games are generally known for, so I can see how that's a bit of an argument against it. The only real choice I can recall off the top of my head was whether to approach the mages or the templars, and while those are two completely distinct story arcs they're not ultimately hugely impactful on the flow of the game. I do feel like it shone more with the huge maps to explore, the gradually-growing base, and some of the really epic cinematic scenes and bossfights (the dragons in particular are just incredible). The DLCs I've personally played (I never did do the big post-campaign epilogue-type DLC) were just more cool adventures to new places. They weren't exactly ground-shattering, but if you enjoy the narrative tone of the game and like the enormous, beautiful maps to explore...they have a lot to offer there. :)

An expansive base story enhanced further by 3 small expansions, 1 medium expansion, 1 large expansion and 2 side stories (one of which being a “What If?” scenario), Dragon Age: Origins was at the time - and arguably still is today - the epitome of quality storytelling. Despite being over 10 years old, it is *still to this day* a must-play recommendation for anyone who enjoys a worthwhile story. Unfortunately, neither of its sequels (Dragon Age II, Dragon Age Inquisition) were able to capture the same level of storytelling magic that Origins had (DA2 especially), but I have high hopes for the fourth game in the series, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

What's mind blowing about DA2, is that its timeline runs in parallel with Origins, but told like a tavern tale with a remarkable reveal that flows into Inquisition. Inquisition's (DA "3") start left me speechless and shocked. That reveal was well played by Bioware. I think I even cried the first time in the temple. If they wanted my attention, they had me in the first 10 minutes of playing the game. 10/10 would still play all three games for the story. What was it Leliana said? "I will never break; I will die first!" *Player character arrives* "Or you will!" *Kills guard with her legs.* Never piss off Leliana. Seriously. fucking awesome series.

Glad you enjoyed Inquisition as well. I felt like it was a nice return from 2 although I didn’t hate two like most people. But maybe that just because I loved the first one so much. Although I will say that I didn’t replay it as much as I did DA origins 🙂

Probably like most people Who played dragon age origins I started with the vanilla version But as bioware made more DLC content and then decided to release an ultimate edition that has the base game Plus all the DLC content the Awakening expansion that was originally sold as a separate game I upgraded to the ultimate edition because it put everything all in one place and the dragon age game was more than a game it was a price of art which is something that a lot of games don't achieve and even less so now because it seems that the developers have forgotten how to make a great game while expecting to make one

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Oh my gosh hi!!! My favorite is Inquisition and I started with Inquisition on the Xbox 360. I got into the fandom way late as well but when I was gifted an X1 two years ago, I played Inquisition in its full glory! There was so much missing from the 360 and all the DLCs were so much fun too. I then played DA2 but picked up Origins while doing DA2. I finished DA2 first and then DAO. Finally, I got all the DLCs for both (a few months ago) and was even more hyped for both games. I love them all so much and could gush on forever. (If you haven't played Jade Empire, I highly highly recommend it! It's my favorite after the DA series) 😊

I recently bought Dragon Age Inquisition (the 3rd installment) because I found it on offer on the PS4 store so I just went for it. I haven't played the previous two games so I'm going in completely blind and I know I'm missing on a ton of stuff in terms of the world, lore and characters but so far is a very entertaining game with loads of stuff to do and great characters. It's a shame only this game is available for console, because the other two are only on PC. Being a Mass Effect fan, you inevitably hear or see things about Dragon Age because most fans play both franchises so I do know a few random bits of information but, without playing the whole trilogy from beginning to end, they are disconnected bits. Looking forward to seeing you guys react to the trailers of Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition👀🤩

You can get Dragon Age origins on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. I never played games on pc really. Unless it was on my brothers computer. You have to check out this game. It’s worth buying a PlayStation 3 just for this game to play it. Would be cool if they did a remaster of this but if you like Inquisition. You will love DA origins 😀

RIP Bioware, pretty much their last really good game they made ironically before the EA acquisition (maybe this and Mass Effect 2 I also enjoyed, but miss me with everything else they made afterwards) I wonder how they have kept chugging for 12+ years lol. The expansion was very good and a relic of a bygone era, companies would rather recycle content or tack on shitty multiplayer or microtransactions nowadays sadly there is no material impetus to make quality DLC because tbh gamers aren't good at voting with their wallets and just eat up anything it seems. Just look at GTA 5, 9 years of the same rehashed overpriced multiplayer content ported throughout two entire console generations and they made billions, more than they made from up front sales, they even cancelled the GTA 5 expansion that they confirmed was in the works in 2014 to double down on GTA Online.
