I think it’s sweet that people appreciate Nintendo’s creativity, but implying that is tied exclusively to the hardware itself is shortsighted. Look at the Switch 1 and how many weirdo products they tied into that (LABO, Ring Fit Adventure). Then we just had them release an alarm clock of all things, so they ain’t getting any less quirky. I say just be patient until that Direct and see how ya feel. And particularly what’s there that you can’t see with your eyes. Not just system features but the games! Switch 2 just needed a hardware upgrade so games run much better and developers do not have to go so far out of their way to make a switch version of their game. "Switch 2 is just a more powerful Switch 1" is said in this video - I'm sorry but what exactly is the PS5 except a more powerful PS4? Same with Xbox. The whole thing is not even revealed yet and the mouse Joycons will actually bring a lot of new possibilities if that is the only new innovation here. And comparing it to a useless iPhone upgrade is ridiculous, it has been 8 years since Switch launched. The hard ware will be a noticeable upgrade, almost 11x more computing power if the leaked internal parts are to be believed. 0.3 teraflops up to 3.1 teraflops is a huge leap.

The built in IR camera on the Joy Con being followed up with a Mouse Joy Con is more innovation than Sony or Microsoft have shown in years with their peripherals, it super weird to me how much critisim Nintendo are getting for not having a console that can do a triple backflip when it is powered on or has the ability to cure world hunger.

A lot of focus on small changes like vents, ports, and buttons that would mean nothing to the average consumer, particularly since there was no accompanying text, barely any gameplay footage showing the few new features being used in-game (eg. the mouse controls), and no accompanying press release or added information. Obviously they’re waiting til April for whatever reason, but that doesn’t mean this trailer didn’t feel undercooked and a poor showcase to get consumers excited for the new console (particular casual gamers who mostly play off the OG switch and don’t see much point spending hundreds on a bigger one)

Bioware hasn't released a strong RPG since Inquisition, which I found to be rather mid, even if Veilguard made me ask if I was too hard on it, and that was a decade ago. They aren't the same company that made KotOR, Dragon Age Origins, the original Mass Effect Trilogy, and other classics. They've been fully ship-of-theseus'd into an entirely different studio wearing the same name, and they are not up to the task. The number of vehicles was even smaller than was advertised in early access, the audio quality is a mixed bag but the worst thing of all was the fact that the game has an always online requirement for a majority of things. That doesn't bode well from a preservationist standpoint and will definitely make modding a little harder in the future. The game is still being patched with features added but still. Tomb Raider 1 sold over 2 million copies at that point in time. _That was 25 years ago._ So: Is it suprising that Veilguard is not selling? I did not want a big W for Bioware. Because what would it say about the industry if this game got a W? They clearly did not make a game for the dragon age audience. They made it for a different audience. Because no one who actually understood what made DA origins or inquisition good liked this game. It failed as an RPG, failed as an action game, failed at good story telling too. Most people who made Bioware what it is anyway no longer worked there and Corrine bush had never even worked on an RPG before this. Bioware getting a W for this would reward very bad behavior and that would've harmed the industry more. Anyone who didn't see this failure coming from miles away shouldn't work at EA. Yes my words are harsh and that's because this is another situation where bad leadership from parent companies throw money at problems simply expecting them to fix themselves. This game cost them 300 Million or so based on the rumors and it's just insane how for so much money this game delivers on so little compared to its predecessors. How can EA even put someone who has never made an RPG in charge of DA? And this is a problem I guarantee that goes all through bioware. Imo bioware is like that dog you had as a kid, everyone loved it and it was cute and happy. But now it's old, and sick and sad and grumpy and bites anyone who comes near it. Makes you question if you should put the poor creature out of its miserable existence. Again, I know my words are harsh but they come from a place of respect and love for what bioware once was... And disgust for what it has become. And the worst part is that EA could've avoided it.

Absolutely second this opinion. It's difficult for a creator such as Ralph to vocalise it, and I understand the hesitation and reluctance to criticise a once beloved developer producing what on-paper should have been a surefire win - a singleplayer fully-encapsulated and microtransaction-free RPG adventure - but when the game does not live up to the promise, and fundamentally is not appealing to fans of the genre or original games, it is not incumbent on the players to prop up a floundering studio to give them a second chance and reward them for again failing to connect with their playerbase. Or in this case, a fourth chance after Andromeda, Anthem, and Veilguard.

Right? Oh, she has "achieved what she wanted"? How is this trainwreck of a game an achievement?
@ikaemos9 күн бұрын
It's an immeasurably better game than Andromeda or Anthem, and Corinne is largely responsible for assembling an actual game from the live-service bucket-o'-content they had a few years ago. From a production standpoint, what she achieved it nothing short of a miracle. Personally, I didn't really like the direction the worldbuilding took, and prefer the feel of prior titles, but DAV is still a game in league with other DA games, and beyond them in many aspect. Most people decrying DAV haven't even touched it; they just snorted a line off of the controversy mirror as it was being passed around in the gutters. Most of them haven't touched the old DAs either; otherwise, they'd know you can make any of them look like fanfiction cringefests if you just cherry-pick a couple of oddly written filler-lines.

@@ikaemos ridiculous take. You can enjoy the game as much as you want but don't pretend its in the same league as origins or even inquisition and to think its beyond them is honestly pretty insane. People didn't like it based on their own trailers and game play footage before the critics started tearing apart what they got. And its not oddly written filler lines people are mocking it's entire character quest lines and sub par writing in general. Not to mention the odd esthetics and lighter tones. No ones asking you to hate the game but at least be realistic in your assessment.

@@ikaemos I've watched an entire playthrough. It's inane at even the best of times, the writing is utterly terrible. Stop acting like people bringing up criticism you don't like can't possibly have a valid opinion because you liked it, and that must mean everybody else does too or they're lying. As to Andrew, he roached off the sinking ship when it was clear the game would be a disaster.

2 missed announcements this week (though this may be due to the move to upload the video a day later). Tempest Rising and Endless Legend 2 both announced yesterday!

so i decided to do some research into the veilguard thing. it mentions specifically "players" not units sold, however im going to be using the best case scenario. if they sold 1.5 million units at 70 bucks, thats 105 million dollars. the absolute lowest estimate for a budget i saw online for this game was 200 million. so best case scenario, veilguard lost 95 million dollars. far more realistically, it probably sold right around 1 million units, so roughly 70 million dollars. most estimates i saw online were between 250 - 300 million. so its far more likely that veilguard lost around 150 - 200 million dollars or possibly even more.

I was actually quite excited by the Switch 2 reveal video. Granted, it gave us very little information, but I was interested in what I saw. I never bought a Switch because it never seemed like a wise purchase for me. However, with backwards compatibility and more processing and graphical power, I'm definitely considering getting a Switch 2. I can finally play Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It all depends on the price though. If it's too much, then I'll rather just get a Steam Deck (which I'm also strongly considering).

With the current composition of Bioware, I won't shed too many tears if they close down. Hopefully, EA will sell the IP to someone and not leave it to collect dust.

Here's the thing. I truly think the Switch might be a perfectly designed console. Perhaps it's my failing imagination, but aside from making it more powerful, I can't really think of a single way to improve it. It perfectly hybrids between home console and portable. Out of the box it has 2 controllers. It communicates with everything. its physical media are compact and easy to store. its UI is clean and utilitarian. It's how i imagined consoles might be like in the future when I was a kid. What would I want from the Switch 2?... Pretty much exactly the same thing? Honestly even the bigger size might be a bad move. Mouse integration into the controllers is an awesome upgrade. I'm a little worried that the magnetic snap might be prone to breaking.

My hope is that Nintendo just starts itterating on Switch (1, 2, next they roll with 3) and it becomes the "Low power console/Mobile console" space owner. PSX and PSX pro are the "enthusiast" class machines. Those 2 platforms will cover most all game styles (indies especially) and leave out the high end "you need a 5090 to run this a peak" type games. IDK man, that sounds pretty ideal. The dyad of Nintendo and Sony might be all we need, with the Steam Deck somewhat closing the "but these indies are only on PC" gap.
