Why do the kunari look like elves with horns? Why does the UI look so bad? Did they not actually test these designs with players before development?

I’m going to disagree with the lead comment in this thread. I did not dislike the combat from DA2 or Inquisition, but there were definitely many instances where needing to micromanage all of your companions during battle was quite tedious and disruptive to the overall immersion of both that particular battle and the overall gameplay experience. I have enjoyed the hybrid party-based combat in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, where your companions function adequately under AI control, but then you can also override the AI with specifically timed and directed commands, and that allows you to optimize your team’s approach. Granted, Mass Effect is a cover-shooter, and Dragon Age combat is 360-degrees wide-angle. So, it’s not apples-to-apples. Still, my point stands: hybrid AI/player controlled party combat can feel good, and in some cases has advantages over a more traditional full-player controlled micromanagement style combat.

MY THEORY The characters are designed this way because the design team hates men or hates being a man because all of them have been rejected by men their whole lives, or in the case of those who hate being men, have been rejected by the women their whole lives, so they transition into the object of their desire (women). Thus, they destroy anything men may find attractive because what men find attractive is not them,. One thing that people should realize is that the majority of Dragon Age players started with Dragon Age Inquisition. It literally sold millions more than Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2. What ultimately matters to a true Dragon Age fan is whether the story holds up and whether the companions are compelling.

I'm mixed on the visual design. I think the map designs look pretty good, and I'm not as off-put by the general character texturing as others. I do, however, take issue with the general look of the Qunari and the visual changes they've made to the Darkspawn. Those things will matter to people, but I think what's going to be critical for this game is: How fun is it, how engaging is the story, and how impactful are our choices? I'm not going into this expecting BG3 levels of choices and decisions. I think it's partly easier for Larian to do that since the main protagonist isn't voiced, so you don't end up blowing up your budget and dev time on VA alone. That said, I'm staying in the skeptical camp on this one, as prior history with Andromeda and Anthem has made me quite wary. One thing I will say, even if some think it's unfair, is that I do think there's going to be groups of people online who will take any small slight in this game and turn into the biggest issue ever. In some respects, it is unfair. Criticism and skepticism is warranted, but I'm also not a fan of useless bitching either.

But other than the models if you look at the environments especially the ones from the environmental walk through videos released a few days ago where they use the camera to show off the locations in detail it is big step up from previous games and is actually quite impressive. Doesn’t really matter though the combat can simply be serviceable and id be fine with it because the story is really all I care about and obviously we can’t tell if that will be good or not based on these small trailers.
@Guava11534Ай бұрын
Also let’s not compare DA with BG3. People love to do that but man these are two different types of RPGs and this is coming from someone who loves both games. The short and simple explanation is BG3 is trying to tell your character’s story and will change to reflect your choices similar to a real D&D game. DA is trying to tell a story while giving you some player control. DA wants you feel like part of the world while BG3 wants you to basically shape the world.
@jimbob1862Ай бұрын
@@Guava11534I mean DA is specifically about shaping the world through your actions too? The landsmeet in DA Origins in entirely about player choice deciding the political future of Ferelden, DA2 is more character focused but Inquisition also focuses on establishing consequences in the world. The entire reason DA Keep was made was to have players choices matter and be reflected in Inquisition based on choices throughout the previous two games. And the things the devs forced choice away from like Leliana stick out like a sore thumb due to it. To say BG3 and DA are very different in how they present choice and consequences is really not true, especially since BG3 is a sequel to BG1 and 2, Bioware games that DA specifically built off like BG3 did. My big issue as a DA fan from Origins is I've waited for this game for 10 years and am being shown something that is decidedly not Dragon Age in its core combat gameplay. Why am I controlling a lone character in the series focused on party based character interactions and combat? Where's the strategy? Even DA2 for it's action focus had some strategy to it. I think a series that is at its 4th game, after already course correcting away from action in Inquisition, going back to focus even harder on action to appeal to more players just doesn't make sense. I'm not sure how familiar you are with DA (that's not meant as an insult or jab, I just don't know your familiarity) but as someone who loves DA and has done so from the first game it's exhausting seeing it repeat the same mistakes it's already learned from.
@TylorHuebnerАй бұрын
I really liked a lot of inquisition actually, despite a lot of flaws but idk something doesn't look right for this game.... I can't quite put my finger on it. And I'm not talking visually, I don't really mind the art style switch all that much. Maybe it's just wanting more or expecting more of a jump from the last game but something just isn't clicking the way I want it to. Hopefully the game is good and I'm wrong, would love another good bioware game to dive into.
@Guava11534Ай бұрын
@@TylorHuebner that’s fair all I’m asking is to just give it a chance. Maybe not buy the game but keep an open mind. Aztecross was definitely right about BioWare needing a big win after the failure of Anthem. I’m kinda afraid BioWare will get shut down if this game flops and then both dragon age and mass effect will be dead.
@Guava11534Ай бұрын
@@jimbob1862 you’re right you do make a lot of choices in DA and Inquisition regarding politics and who lives and who dies. So yes there is a lot of choice between both games. The main point I’m making is that BioWare isn’t willing to sacrifice a story if let’s say you want to just be evil guy rather than the hero. In DA sure you can be a dick but you will save the world from the blight in origins or in Inquisition stop Corypheous. In BG3 you literally take control of the netherbrain and dominate the world and do a whole bunch of fucked up things if you feel like your character would do that. BG3 wants to give you complete control if they can while BioWare wants to give you as much control as they can without fucking up the overall story. Also personally, I am like Aztecross I’m not a big fan of turn based games. I love BG3 and I pushed past the gameplay because I love all the choice I’m given but I do prefer a more action style of combat. Personally, my favorite combat was inquisition and I wished they kept it that way in Veilguard. I think inquisition combat while rough at times still gave me a good feeling of action and strategy if you’re playing on nightmare. I think if they just stuck with it and refined it that style could have satisfied all players but unfortunately they went another direction. But like I said the combat is really the least of my concerns because as long as I enjoy it I will be happy, what matters to me is the story.

Idk, the in-combat radial menu just feels jarring to me. I hated it in Doom Eternal, which is why I then opted to play it on MKB (even though I can't aim right on mouse) and I hate it here. You have your real-time action combat and then you get yoinked out of that to choose which skill to use. I mean, I get that it's more controller friendly that way, but FFXIV was able to do skillbars on controllers just fine without it just pausing the entire game. I'm not going to say anything about the camera control in combat, because that can be a user error.

@@WolfclawTheGreatwolf because it’s fking stupid and makes zero sense in the context of the game. It’s completely immersion breaking. Why would a fantasy character who lives in a world with magic need top surgery? Who in a medieval fantasy world has the medical capabilities and surgical tools required for this procedure? There’s a certain thing called suspension disbelief; you can’t just say “it’s fiction it doesn’t matter” when it makes no sense in the setting in the first place. If it’s “just a game bro” and “doesn’t matter” then why don’t we have the player character drive around a Volvo C30 instead of a horse? Or wield an M16 instead of a sword? And they took away the tactical top down screen. They just took away everything that made Dragon Age, well, Dragon Age.
