I had a dream as a kid that I went to my cousin's basement and a creepy doll started slowly coming towards me, I remembered in the dream somehow, the idea that in dreams you can do whatever you want, even fly.. so I decide to kamehameha this cursed doll. I charged up and motioned a kamehameha with all I had, and nothing happened. I just ran upstairs after that.

This man is so underrated. He inspired me to look at different aspects of fitness and being the most versatile version of myself. Maybe this is much to ask but could you look at a particular martial art? That is judo, i'd love to you see analyze its biomechanics and come up with ways to train specifically for that. I think the outfit/ clothes makes it such different style of grappling compared to wrestling for example.

Some of the most relaxed fighters I've seen are the Muay Thai fighters. When they kick they kick straight through without holding back or snapping back. I don't know much about Martial Arts but from I've seen that they throw some devastating blows for their size. Thai men tend to be on the smaller leaner side but wow do they have crazy strength.

Maxick who gets a mention near the end of the video said he was never heavier than I think 155 lbs. He was one of the first people to successfully clean and jerk with double body weight or more. It was around four hundred lbs. And he claimed much of his strength came from muscle control That is to say ability to relax muscles antagonistic to the movements he wanted to perform while keeping the necessary muscles fully engaged. He was also known for lifting men forty pounds heavier than himself overhead with one hand ten times while not spilling beer from the mug he would hold in his other hand.

They do specialized training for martial arts and have different bodys, long muscles that relax when in rest position, not circular, no hyperthropy, or poping veins. The Bioneer has a great body and physical condition and strength but this is not for martial arts or sports where you throw punches or kicks. Big muscles and muscular resistance training are not good overall for the above said sports. What you need is potency, power, not strenght and you need alactic anaerobic resistance not anaerobic lactic resistance. The harder and faster you hit or kick, the more muscles you lose, and the other way around.

Definitely recommend taking a look at a kettlebell figure 8 to waiters catch for rotation power development for punches. You’re powering a the kettle up from the hips, across the body, to a chest catch. Looks a lot like a punch/upper cut.

I think the most important thing to do if you want to train for power in fighting is strengthen that kinetic chain. When you fight your like a lighter or gun you build pressure though out and explode the build up with the end of your strike.

You're absolutely right. The major part of the strength and speed of a punch or a kick comes from the legs and torso. It's all about the right activation of all the muscles. Keep up the good work.

I think a good example of a musclebound, DBZ-physique martial artist is Francis Ngannou after what he did tonight at UFC 260. Was very effective, fast, and powerful whilst demonstrating good endurance. I'm really appreciating your investigation of martial arts strength training and how to incorporate it into a hybridized, generalist regimen. Your collaboration with Grant is ideal in this regard. Really looking forward to learning from your future content.

from my own experience i can tell that for a harder punch it is extremely important to focus on form and speed, so shadow boxing or f.e. or standing in horse stance and punching very fast for a few minutes engaging the legs, core, shoulders with very clean and controlled movement is very effective. love your videos, mr bioneer, keep up the good work!

Love it man, great job. DBZ, as many others understand, has been one of the greatest influences I've got on improving my training and the results thereof over all my years doing it. It has inspired me so much, and while wearing a DBZ shirt or vest in the gym I have even witnessed moments where I noticed others reading the message on it and visibly getting amped by it like nodding their head and pushing out some more reps! Love this content man.

Very cool video. I want to pitch in: Muscle does not generate power. Power comes generally from the push off the ground directed through the hips along with the smooth coordination of the joints. If someone has a lot of muscle mass there could be extra power just from throwing around the weight of their body, but any contraction of the muscles takes away from the transference of energy into the target. Size does have an effect, but speaking of the maximize power output for any given body type, the smoother they can move the better for them to reach their max potential output. Joint coordination ultimately has greater power potential, but it is harder to understand on the surface than muscular training. Takes more time to learn

Small critique on your bench press: stop moving/tapping your feet. Your left foot in particular. each time you do you lose tension in your body and by doing so you create gaps in your lift which can lead to injury at worst or lack of progress at best. Love the content, your approach really gets my brain thinking about training in a different light. One of only two channels whose videos I watch every time I see a new one uploaded.

I would be very interested to hear your take on the benefits of swimming and what other fitness training is good to supplement swimming as a primary training form. Thank you! Cory

Yes, this is why muscle size has a diminishing returns when it comes to striking power and the subsequent technique requirements. When I choose powerlifting to condition my muscles for optimizing my kickboxing, I made a point not to train for competitive powerlifting as maximizing my one rep max. Instead I train for heart rate variability and in a fasted state, so that my energy output can be consistent in a state of ketosis.

Dragonball influenced the way I trained by showing me what "training" is. I guess I also found a bit of identity in the way that the characters like Goku or Vegeta yearned to train, to improve or to be TBE etc. I think it gave a great emphasis on calisthenics and plyometrics, there was weight training but not as much as bodyweight training. (When if first started boxing, after many years in karate, I thought of the jab as a tediously stylistic flourish... not as something functional. Many years later, I realise how it unlocks every other punch, links them together, makes them work etc. Seriously: spend some time watching ace jabbers, and back on the bag do some rounds of jab only, with a focus on greater distance and a variety of angles. Forget speed to start with.)

Mate your honesty, intent and intelligence make these videos so fun and interesting to watch, I always get opened up to new ideas of training. its interesting you tall about visualising chi and how this builds the mind to muscle connection, I often think the same too.

Some of those concepts I learned them in Karate. Many people think (modern) karate is not suitable for real defense, and they are mostly right, but there is more to karate than that. Some concepts of karate are common in many martial arts, including mma, and also there are some that used to be only highlighted in karate, probably now better known in other styles. Some paths of strentgh impact in karate are highly interesting. In old karate they also use some weights with lever action and for gripping strentgh that can be a full body workout.

Have you seen the classic martial arts movie "Best of the Best"? Its a wonderful karate drama from '89 that was doing the absoloute business in the very early 90s on the home video rental and was always brought up in schoolyard banter with the Van Damme, Arnie movies we were loving at the time aswell. The training montages in the movie are some of my personal fave scenes like that to watch. And alongside Eric Roberts and the other cast, the main star Phillip Rhee is incredible. I love your love of films like that, and was wondering if you've seen this gem of a film itself. Thanks again for the continuous content. In mind and body, this channel is a brilliant influence.

I find I prefer using resistance bands for power and explosiveness. Mimicking say a cross punch with a band around my hand has greatly improved my speed and force.

As a lifelong TCMA pracitioner, I'm glad to see you working with Tai Chi Chuan. There are fantastic martial & healing benefits from its practice. Theres a great scene of Donnie Yen from...Flashpoint? He is bulked & lean AF in that, and his endurance & power do not seem to be brought into the equation. If would seem to me that there is a "Ceiling" of accumulated mass you want as a martial artist; a sweet-spot where there is less muscle to fatigue but enough muscle to generate adequate force. Probably due to the loss of intense contractions (the foundation of martial power). Your comments on Chi were part of a wonderful observation.

I was actually directed to this channel by my doctor... he's reminding me that I need to exercise. I'm not overweight but my cholesterol is not ideal and my T is getting low. I know he's not wrong. But man my back is hurting just watching this lol. But the Dragon ball reference on the first of your videos that I watched is awesome as I am a huge fan. Well here goes nothing... had to get over my ages old routine sometime.

I've found that smashing a truck tire with sledgehammers for 2-3 minute rounds, using both a 10-16 lb 2-arm sledgehammer AND two 4 lb single handed sledgehammers, helped develop my punch stamina, arm/shoulder endurance and power transfer from the legs through the core and out to my arms.

The bench press (done in more of a powerlifting style) actually involves total body tension and leg drive. So even though it is predominantly an upper body movement (pecs, deltoids, triceps, and lats for stabilisation), the lower body (glutes, quads and hamstrings) are actually being used as well. Nice video though, keep up the amazing work!

I train clients in MMA, and punching is not about pushing, but about pulling the shoulder (snapping back) quickly and keeping the punching hand loose until the moment you make an impact. So rather than the punching movement with the band, it would be better to pull back with the non-punching arm. Anyways, just my 2 cents. Great informative video!

You should do a couple months of randori with your local judo club. that'll tell you so much about the weak points in your connection chain between your trapezius and your Achilles tendon, and then you'll tell us how to rectify the situation. Please. love the show

I would also add that mobility and flexibility are also important to for fluid powerful moves and range of motion e.g high kicks, hip rotation, shoulder extension, deep stances. And also speed training too. Muscle strength alone won't necessarily cut it without the other elements.

Thanks for the video man. I love Dragon Ball and it is one of the two cartoons that have stuck with me throughout the entirety of my life. It also inspires me anytime I feel like giving up in my training. I wish I knew a proper way to train myself with my two dumbbells(23lbs), kettlebell(25lbs) and B.O.B (full body).
