I can't believe that these scenes was drawn by Naoki Tate. The drawnings of faces, muscles, bodies are pretty similar to drawnings of Naoki Miyahira, Masahiro Shimanuki or Naotoshi Shida back then. That is really hard to distinguish their style (at least for me). His style was much closer to something what i could call "overall excellent DBZ'" style. I like this old style over 9000 times better than Tate's current style of drawnings. In my opinion "old" Tate is one of the best DBZ animators in matter of pure drawnings. When we talk about showing the dynamic, speed, power of the fights, Tate is the king. The way how he demonstrates skills of the warriors... i have no worlds to describe that. Just look at the scene Goku vs Freeza in Nameck village or Buuhan vs Goku and Vegeta. You literaly can feel how painful this punches are. Insamely good work. In DBS Naoki Tate didn't lost this "touch". His scenes are dynamic, fast and furious. But they don't present warrior's power that good as in DBZ times. That is problem of all DBS animators by the way. Best regards to you AnimeAjay. I really like to watch you channel.

JasonOne i prefer dbz by a longshot because of his impact and espeically art. In super i appreciate his work and understand it takes time, but i can’t get over the body parts he draws. It’s too loose for me and flailing. In dbs, his animation is definitely more fluid

ClassicDBZ Fan Honestly, I thought this video was about Naotoshi Shida when I commented that, I get these guys names mixed up, yeah I know, even though his name's on the screen lol. I definitely agree about his art in Super, he has fluidity, which is what the show really needs, as the problems are always the characters being too stiff, but his artwork looks off a lot of the times, it got better by the end of Super, but I'm still not a big fan of it much. Even in the Broly Movie, his work which was the scene where Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo are talking + Frieza vs Broly, seemed to be the worst out of everything that we got in the movie.

In Z, I have trouble identifying the differences between Tate's animation and Hisada's. Z Tate animates very similarly to Hisada, and since his work is usually corrected, it stylistically looks similar to Hisada's as well. I can easily pick out Shimanuki (and of course Takeuchi's stiff and rigid animation), but Tate and Hisada just sort of blend together for me in Z.

Man, I finished watching FLCL like yesterday or before, I don't really remeber lol, and I loved the animation! (And the series, of course) It reminded me a lot of Tate at some points because of the dynamic camera angles, use of warped/forced perspective, exaggeration and stylized/cartoony expressive hands, you know, usual "Gainax-Trigger" stuff, makes me wonder why some ppl dislike him for applying that to DB.

@guilhermevianabarbosa803
@guilhermevianabarbosa803 6 жыл бұрын
Ashketchup The only difference between his art then and now is that his usual artistic output in Super tends to be rough (wich doesn't make it mediocre btw), it really didn't change much, the anatomy and the proportions are basically the same but he displays a better understanding of gesture, wich is basically the soul of a drawing, now. Back in Z he was corrected a lot, GT had a couple more examples of his true artistic form due to less correction in some scenes and you can actually spot quite a lot of similarities between his style then and his style now.

I feel like his actual animation has improved in his Super work, but the art style is usually looser and less visually appealing, which was a necessary sacrifice with the schedule Super had. Really it just goes to show you can't have it all at once every single time. Also, it might be more of a personal preference but I like his Z era effects work more.

@@jasonone8726 His general sense of design didn't change that much from his late Z/GT work, in fact some of his late Z drawings - which were less corrected by his supervisors - look stylistically identical to his characters in Super. The only difference is that his DBS art was commonly rougher due to the show's severe production issues (and the fact he learned to complement his portrayal of motion better with it), which is where the problem lies. Most that criticize his art are usually uneducated on subjects like drawing or animation production, which means they're unaware of how hellish making an anime can be and can't tell the difference between something produced in a hurry from something technically deffective. The former might lead into the latter, but that's not a rule.

Derek Stickman Ep 5 was a production mess, Tate and a lot of other animators were tied up to the production of ep 2, wich resulted in the production being very rushed. He had a 3 weeks schedule to provide a large amount of key animation and supervision for the ep, despite that, his scenes, the SSJ3 portions alongside Ken Otsuka's, were fine, he didn't animate the bad parts of the ep nor was responsible for it's terrible production conditions.

So in another words he has gotten better while at the same time done bad animations for dbs...why do people like tiptoe around the obvious just because its from a good animator? Stop being wussies and just accept the fact that he has done bad or "rough" animation in his more recent work (Not all but it does exist). And no its not subjective since everyone is ok with dissing the other animators who are known for doing bad animation...just because its apparently ok to do so...yet at the same time you can't criticise an animator who has technically done good animation...

Ashkandi His art style in Super is nowhere near "garbage", it is usually rough, wich is a different thing, not necessarily related to being "bad". It's like that because Super's production schedule normally makes him rushed and after he's done with the movements, wich are his primary concern, there's little time left to polish it. That being said, his standard artistic delivery for DBS is perfectly acceptable from an objective optic, and his art style didn't change so much since then, his anatomy design and proportions remained almost unchanged, but now he demonstrates a more complete understanding of muscles and gesture.

It's the exact opposite, actually, his scenes back then were pretty average, with not many particularly notable cuts. His current output displays a lot better understanding and application of the principles of animation, his drawings also present a more refined, expressive sense of gesture and anatomy, which go hand in hand to create competent cuts that totally outclass his past contributions.
