This movie fits so well into Canon that a lot of fans consider it so. Almost every other movie before felt so detached from the show but this always felt like it fits like a glove between Cell and Buu.

Literally the only wrinkle is Trunks tbh. Before Super you could argue that he came back to this timeline to celebrate having killed his Cell with everyone, but now thanks to a certain arc in that show which implies they hadn't seen him since Gohan beat Cell, that puts this movie's canonicity back up in the air.

I always loved the fact that not even being dead will stop Goku from saving Gohan. It answers the question of what happens if a person who can teleport tries to teleport out of the afterlife, at least in the dragon ball world.

Believe it or not, this is the second time Krillin fights against Piccolo in a tournament. First time was in OG Dragon Ball. Piccolo obviously won, but Krillin did put up a good fight

It really was such a staple of the DBZ movies to have Piccolo come out of nowhere to save Gohan, if we count Plan to Eradicate then I'm pretty sure this is the 9th movie in a row where he comes in and makes the save. Usually by coming in out of nowhere and deflecting a blast the main villain aimed at him.

For me the highlight of this movie was Gohan's understanding and respect for his father after he was saved. Even without being aware of how, he knew Goku did that just for him and like he said. "I know you're out there father, you came back to save me ... and I WON'T LET YOU DOWNNNN."

It's interesting cause this is technically your first exposure to a pre-Kai ENG dub, which tended to play a lot more loose with the dialogue- But it's also a movie so it's kind of a different beast anyway, since all DBZ mpvies prior to Battle of Gods were not written by original author Akira Toriyama- so you're getting a bit of a taste of the Toei writers' take on the cast as well 😁 (Also you got to hear the full Head-Cha-La opening!) It's a shame this movie was the one that made TFS realize they were gonna quit, cause Bojack living in King Kai's planet was one of their longest running gags in DBZA- but I wouldn't have wanted them to force anything either

So here's a fun thing. Each of Bojack and his crew are named after bad, or evil sounding adjectives. Bojack and Bujin name in Japan means arrogance, audacity, or outrageous behavior. Kogu and Bido translate to heinous, extreme evil, inhumane, or unjust. Zangya translates to cruelty or brutality. Kinda cool, if you ask me.

This was my favorite look for Trunks. Also yes, Trunks definitely got bigger. Many characters got more jacked as the anime went on, including Tien, Yamcha, and Krillin. For example, if you compare how Goku looked in early Z and how he looked near the end of the Frieza Saga the difference is like night and day. That's due to Toryiama changing his art style from giving characters well-built physiques to mass-monster physiques.

In this movie imo there is the best version of mr satan for the different colors he dressing, also there are cell saga/future references like trunks against tien used the same future gohan's pose when he did go ssj against android 17 and 18, bojack was hugging gohan exactly as perfect cell did with canon gohan before releasing all the cell jr and gohan throwing a punch in bojack stomac was the same scene of canon gohan throwing a punch to buffed cell that then spit out 18 and go back to second form

Ah yes. Early Funimation Dub. This is back when both Gohan had smokers lung. Both the actors and the writers were still pretty green back then. The English dub DBZ Kai came out in 2010 .. Six years after this movie came out. You can tell how much both the acting and the writing had improved. Switched out some actors as well. Honestly, it was needed.

3:28 im the first TFS cooler movie, Goku becomes super saiyan after a bird called "Toriyama" (Toriyama is the Dragon Ball's Author last name, and in japanese , it means Bird Mountain) and after reviving it with his Ki. Goku tells the bird to go live his life and to teach a dinosaur to ride a ball, which is a reference to this. Later on, 16, finds a bird, who he understand is Toriyama, and 16 gets very surprised when the bird says he has a dinousaur, and 16 says "ohh.. you have a dinosaur..?... IT DOES WHAT??"

To answer Bethany question, you're not watching these movies in chronological order because ya'll already past the point where these movies takes place. The first 3 movies happened in the saiyan saga, where goku fought radizt, nappa, and vegeta. But that's okay, most of us fans in America saw the anime first because the movies wasn't officially dubbed in English, anime was hard to consume in the United States because anime wasn't properly produced in America so the majority of the experience is out of order. Bojack unbound movie Is number 9, this movie takes place after the event of the cell games. If you go back to movie 8 which you skipped, that'll place you in the broly: the legendary super saiyan movie, which that took place during the 10 days countdown to the cell games!

6:54 when TFS did the whole "We are going to revive your baby boy" with Piccolo and Vegeta, it was actually a moment where vegeta recognized that not only Goku surpassed him once again, but now he had no way to prove himself as the strongest. Then Vegeta, all alone in the wasteland, claims himself to be defeated and swears to never fight again in his life.

This one was his last cool entrance in a movie anyway. The rest of it that follows was kinda' bland compared to it and two others before, like the one with Metal Cooler and Super Android 13 (which were the two first DBZ movies for him, except for the TV Specials with Bardock as a kid, and with Trunks Story as a cameo)...

I feel bad for Piccolo: he has battle IQ almost on par with Goku, with intellect on par with Vegeta. His species's golden age already passed, and he was their best warrior, he was even a god once! Alas he lack the raw power of the Saiyans ... In his own words: "oh the humiliation, this is truly humiliating" Funny thing is that he is the writer's favorite ... this tells you that Akira Toriyama is a troll, or really wise.

Two Dbz movies i recommend is Broly 2nd coming and Fusion Reborn. (Both are during the Buu saga unlike Bojack which is after the Cell Saga)
