I love the white dragon Jonni! The starkness of that white color gives is a menacing look even though we might think a white dragon would be just the opposite. It's a "snow dragon"! It must breath ice instead of fire. Your work is always beautiful!

You can add all the variations yourself! That's one of the reasons why I had so much fun designing this guy. He turned out to be absolutely magical! I'm going to have to get the pattern and make a couple of these, my son would love this! I'm sure that he would have input on the colors that would go on him. I see you found the dragonfly glaze, there is also a color shift paint that they make that might be really interesting to use on one. I'm working on a mushroom for my son's girlfriend, she likes mushrooms and snakes, so I'm working on the simple one first. Maybe before I start on the dragon I'll try the snake and see how that comes out, trying some of the color shift paint. Thanks for the work that you put into the dragon! Stay safe and healthy, God Bless everyone!

Thank you for generously sharing all your experiences and tips. Your dragon is beautiful. For your information, you can use the Gimp instead of Photoshop because Gimp is a freeware and has similar features to Photoshop and it's free so why miss out. It's a great way to test a color palette before painting the material directly and to avoid sweating it haha. I wonder how to varnish to be able to put the creations outside and that it does not spoil with time? I make paper macher fairies and their natural environment needs to be exposed to rain and frost. I don't know if the marine varnish is suitable because I read that it makes the paint crack. Have you ever tried it? If you have any tips I'm interested. Thank you so much for your generosity in any case, you inspire me a lot. Have a nice sweety day =)
@UltimatePaperMache2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip about Gimp - that's really helpful. I've tried marine varnish, just once, and the varnish itself cracked when I moved my tortoise into the sun. I know a lot of people recommend it, but I don't. We do have a guest post on my blog about a big paper mache clay mushroom that's been outside, in Florida, for several years, and Linda recommends Rustoleum Leak Seal. I haven't tried it yet, but I hope to soon. I don't know if any of the hollow sculptures, like this dragon, will ever work outside, because the paper mache is only a layer or two thick, and if any water seeps inside at all the cardboard would probably get ruined - but we are currently testing the new recipe for paper cement clay, over a crumpled foil armature. It's holding up well in the rain and sun, but we have to wait until next spring to really know how well it will do long-term. I don't recommend it sitting directly on the ground, and you wouldn't want to shape it like a bowl so it hold water... You can see the paper cement clay recipe here, but remember we're still experimenting with it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnvdm3yQi9GGmpo

Hello Jonni... Wondering if your silky smooth paper mache clay would be a bit translucent if worked thinly and with a light under it? Maybe not translucent but let the light shine under it as if it was opaque plastic maybe... Thank you! 😁

how awesome just a quick question can i do this paper mache to make a large egg? how would i do that with this recipe? ive watched many videos.
@UltimatePaperMache Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can make an egg with the paper mache clay recipe, or the air dry clay recipe. If the egg will be hollow, and really big, you might want to put on a layer of plaster cloth, first. That will reinforcement it so it won't be easy to break.

these patterns can be created using 3D software if you have the software, it will output the image as a flat template that you can fold and glue together. Also, I do this in my school with students and the best paper you can get is cardboard. Soak in water until you can peel the surface off. let it dry and you have some nice thick brown paper. Since cardboard is free it becomes an affordable project that can be scaled up as big as you are willing to go. Right now, I am miking a 6.5-foot-long Shark.

How do you turn an animals head in to geometric shapes to make it easier to build a basic shape?
@UltimatePaperMache2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean like the papercraft patterns that are made with triangles? You need to create a 3D model in a computer program, and then unfold it in a program called pepakura. I tried it several times, and my baby elephant wall sculpture was made that way - but not low-poly, which is easy. Mine were high-poly, and the elephant took me almost a month to design. For the low-poly patterns, which take just a few hours, there are lots of KZbin videos that explain how it's done. This is a good one for using a free 3D program: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ63ZYt8f76kY5Y

How do you make a animal pattern?
@UltimatePaperMache Жыл бұрын
I start with a clay sculpture, and then make multiple paper mache copies of it. I cut them apart and then see if they work right when taping them back together. It takes me two to four weeks to make a pattern, so it's not a very efficient way to make a sculpture, unless you want to help other people make the same one. You can make a sculpture from scratch much faster, using the kind of patterns that I explain in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6i5mqyunMeDi8k
