The fact that the possibility for the Hero to fight in his Royal Guard outfit was taken out of the final game is rather saddening. Would've been nice to keep it as an optional look.

The lord of dragovians (dragon) IS in the game. The first time you meet him you fight him in that form.

Lord of the Dragovians is actually used when you first go into the Heavenly Dais, The LotD is actually crazy, and already in dragon form, so you have to clobber him to get him back to his senses. Just played through it.

the red high roller is used. if a high roller rolls a 1, it turns red and stops rolling. now it just goes ham with strong abilities. some of the waterfall cave parts were actually used in the Dragovian Path. not everything, they were reworked a little, but theres a strong resemblance. the lord of the dragovians is used as well, as the first time you fight him and get the Argon ring as a reward from Chen Mui, the Lord is currently going mad with power, and cannot use his human form. if you return to the Lord and fight him once more, you fight his human form, then he turns into the Vermillion Dragon for phase 2, if you beat that, you can make a wish for Dragovian armor, helm, shield, sword, or a new monster for the arena. PS2 has a bonus wish for instant alchemy pot, 3DS has a wish for a new dungeon, Memoriam. the Dragovian armor actually changes the heros outfit, as well, which looks pretty cool.

Thanks for the info. I realized that the dragon was used a bit too late, however there is one odd alternate to him that goes unused which I'm not sure why is in the game. What about the red Anchorman? Is that used at all? I'll have to look up a video about the alternate waterfall cave as what is shown in this video is labeled as "(old) waterfall cave". So I assumed it was unused since my memory on this game is a bit hazy. More info on this game can be found on The Cutting Room Floor.

Ah yes I do see the resemblances in the unused waterfall cave. However it is indeed unused, at least this version shown in the video. The monster encounters here are very similar the first time through the dungeon. This unused version doesn't have the monster encounters from the Dragovian path and some exits in the unused version lead to the used version the first time through the dungeon, not from the Dragovian path version.

Oh man, I've never thought I'd ever see DQ8 being documented on TCRF. Good to see someone finally doing a research. Now then, there's one thing that's been bothering me. If you extract the files from an ISO, you'll notice the "btl" folder inside of "wav" folder. Those are the intimidation/death/misc. battle character lines. However, if you play some of the audio files (you can do that using fobbar2000 and vgmstream plugin), you'll notice that there's Jessica lines where she says some...pretty lewd puns. Are those used anywhere? I haven't played Dragon Quest for a long time, so I've forgotten some battle moves. Yeah, I don't know what those are. There is a high chance of it being unused. Feel free to put them on the TCRF page. What is the tool to extract the data from the ISO? I've been meaning to look around at more stuff sometime.

There's a tool named dq8ext. It's command line, but it's easy to use. Extract DATA2.DAT and DATA2.HD6 using Apache. DATA2 contains all the music and voice clips, while DATA1 contains the models, textures, maps e.t.c. Once you have both DATA.DAT and DATA.HD6 files extracted, drag the HD6 file into dq8ext.exe. Make sure that both DAT and HD6 files are in the same folder, otherwise it won't work. Wait until it finishes and you're done. Get dq8ext here www.pokanchan.jp/dokuwiki/software/console

It's complicating to explain the process. Basically its figuring out how games store stuff in memory. Check out the link in the description for a monster modifier code I made if you want to play around with that.

If you're using the codes on a real PS2, you'll need a cheat device, such as a GameShark or CodeBreaker. If you are using an emulator (PCSX2), you will need to convert the codes to pnach format. You can convert them to pnach with PCSX2CE.

Any chance there are codes that let you do this with Action Replay Max?
So, how exactly does it work, anyway? EDIT: I think I have a basic understanding. I know you have to select the input and output and then put in the code you want to convert, but is there anything else to it?

Put the codes you want converted in the "input" section as a "raw" code. Turn the output to AR Max, hit convert, then copy them to your AR Max.

Ok so waterfall lvl 2 that was shown is in the game secondly the one shown is bigger not smaller come on get your facts straight also from the comments you showing the lord of the dragovians and the high roller is just dumb i dont know how you couldnt figure out they are in the game like cool you can access the core code of the game but you clearly didnt play the game and or play it enough since you didnt know about they massively important boss and enemies

Ok so i thought everyone was talking about the eye being red when rolling a one but this one is a red high roller without the red eye which isnt used the one red that is used has the eye red as well
