Skyrims arms-to-arms combat is really shit without mods and especially since I play DD, I don't want to go back to such boring games where you just swing your sword from one side of the screen to the other. DD is even refered as a hack and slash but Skyrim deserves this title more. Of course Skyrim has the benifit that it has more than the way of direct confrontation to success (assasinations/thievery, diplomacy and other) and the best side quests.
@liquidacid19838 жыл бұрын
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) It's kind of funny how with all the improvements the ES games have seen over the years the melee combat in Skyrim still plays pretty much exactly the fucking same as in Daggerfall. Dev 1 "Hey guys think we should work on the decades old melee combat system?" Dev 2 "Nah man, no time. We have to finish making 50 more custom faces for Town NPCs and Guards who are all going to repeat the same 3 lines"
@MarijuanaPaint8 жыл бұрын
I actually really enjoy ES fighting mechanics. In fact, I think it wouldn't feel as much like an elder scrolls title if it didn't work the way it does. Idk. Maybe they could improve aspects (and they have actually) but hopefully they don't change it too much. I especially don't want to zoom around like an anime character. Though actually if it was more like mount and blade that would be tiiiight. Like an improved daggerfall with the directional attacking and blocking. And the boss battles in this game look pretty incredible.

If anyone's still interested, Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen has fixed a ton of issues and even though some still remain, all of the major ones have been fixed. You have an eternal ferrystone (used for teleporting to portcrystal locations), portcrystals in all major cities, plus unlocking an additional 10 portable portcrystals which you can place anywhere, travel to/from, and switch around at any time. The combat is still awesome. And yes, Joe, they've even changed the title screen theme. The only thing that really bothered me is the fact that you still to this day only have 1 save file (if you rest at an inn you create a "checkpoint save", or a "hard save", so in a way there are 2 save files.). Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is a solid 9,5/10 and I would love to see a sequel.

Benjamin Worswick There is fast travel though (one that allows you to fast travel from anywhere, even in the middle of combat). Granted that in the original game you only had a few place to go and it cost you resources (granted cheap and farmable ones). Dark Arisen fixed a lot of that though (you get free fast travel and 10 new place to use it to get. Granted you have to discover them), not to mention the amount of new content (the DLC not being a problem anymore) and other good fixes. Wish that was the version Joe had played.

@gamersinger51188 жыл бұрын
John Thomas Sorry. I have to completely disagree. Witcher 3's combat is among the most mediocre in any game genre. I find older turn based combat RPGs to be superior to Witcher 3's real action combat. Also Fallout 4 has better combat though it isn't a traditional style RPG.
@johnthomas63028 жыл бұрын
Gamer Singer Wha-? Why? It feels so realistic, dodging and rolling, drinking potions, casting signs, parrying, countering, having a strong attack or fast attack, throwing bombs, laying a trap. So many options that are seamlessly placed in combat with a quick little radial menu. Movement looks realistic too, not cartoony at all.
@gamersinger51188 жыл бұрын
John Thomas lots of things. And I assure you it is not realistic but Dragons Dogma isn't either. The problem is The Witcher has way too many problems with the core combat mechanics. The way the targeting is implemented, Also the fall damage is bad. Like worse than Halo CE bad. And that is saying something. Their magic system is too laughable and way too restricted. And the whole potions and oils wasn't that great of an idea to start with. Also wish they hadn't used leveled loot. Very few games can pull that off properly. IE Borderlands 2. And even then I think it should be swapped for something more up to date. The leveling system relies way too much on the actual gear than your own skills to make you stronger/tougher. I found combat in Witcher 3 to be very bland and forgetful. And I know I am not the only one. Seems to be the majority feels the same way. They need to work on those things. I think more games can learn from Dragons Dogma for combat. physical and magic.

This is why you're targeted by the senachel to take his place. The rest of the story is simply the senachel's method for recruiting and training you as their successor having become bored of living and their position as omnipotent god of the humans, which you learn is the endless cycle of the arisen.

I've got to disagree Joe. I found Dragon's Dogma's story to be very interesting. You play as Savan during the prologue who goes on to defeat the Dragon and eventually the Seneschal; thereby, taking his place serving as the lynch-pin of the world. Savan serves in this capacity for an indeterminate period of time until he tires of the responsibility. Weary, he sends the Dragon into the world to search for a being with a Will strong enough to take his place. The Dragon causes mass devastation to provoke strong-willed beings. Once the Dragon finds such a being, it steals their heart turning them into Arisen. Arisen are drawn to the Dragon, all but guaranteeing a final confrontation. At the final confrontation, the Dragon offers a test. "Fight me or sacrifice your love to gain a wish." Those whose Will falters are granted their wish, but live a life of regret. If the sacrifice is refused, the Dragon and Arisen fight to the death. If the Arisen emerges victorious, the Dragon offers a final cryptic statement; however, if the Arisen falls, they are destroyed and the Dragon searches on. All hearts taken by the Dragon are restored to their respective owners who then rapidly age in accordance with how long their heart was missing. This is why the Dragonforged (who I believe to be one of the first Arisen of the current cycle) aged to dust. The previous Arisen (who made the deal) ages the fifty years his heart was missing. The Dragons death triggers a series of events designed to force the Arisen into "this world's utmost depths," the Everfall. The Everfall serves as yet another test as well as a forge to temper the Arisen. Arisen that possess enough strength and will, gather the keys (20 wakestones) and punch a hole through to the spiritual realm. There the Arisen finds the Seneschal waiting for them. The Seneschal tests the Arisen. If the Arisen is found wanting, the Seneschal strikes them down and molds them into the next Dragon to continue the search. If; however, the Arisen adequately proves them self, the Seneschal will present them with the Godsbane blade pulled from his very own Godly essence. Once the blade is presented, he begs the Arisen to grant him Rest and to take his place. The Arisen grants that request and assumes the position of Seneschal. After an indeterminate time, the Arisen realized that the Cycle and the position of Seneschal is nothing, but a cage. Determined to shatter that cage and give the people true freedom, the Arisen turns the Godsbane blade on them self. With the Seneschal dead, the Throne sits empty, the Cycle irrevocably shattered. This last part being my interpretation: Since the Seneschal's power requires a mind to guide it and that position now lies empty, the Power is dispersed among all living people and they become the "engine of the world."

His point still stands because DD’s story is one that can’t be appreciated until you finally beat the game. So in terms of being motivated via the story he’s not wrong
@339blaster3 жыл бұрын
You skipping straight to the explanation near the end of the game proves Joe's point. The overall lore is great, but the plot and the way it's presented doesn't give a lot of hooks for people to latch on to until the end. They introduce many characters but their development is spread thin. They never give you bits and pieces of the plot until the very end when everything is explained. It's true that the game *does* hand out clues but you never know they're clues until you have prior knowledge to the end.

The storyline is like a 7th grader wrote it! Lol Coolest thing is Biterbach Dark Arisen with Death killing your fucking pawns. But the storyline itself is childish.
@cleverwitticismhere69222 жыл бұрын
@@ronjones9185 Why? You say it's childish; what makes it childish?
@ronjones91852 жыл бұрын
@Clever Witticism Because compared to something like Dragon Age Inquisition it's like something a 7th grader would come up with. First let's talk about the side quests which are mostly escorts of people you meet and take them here or there. Instead of giving you actual reasons to explore the map. Comes of as lazy writing. The main story of this mysterious clan called "Salvation" does even come out til the very end. No set up at all. Like here you go, it's the end of the game so here's some guy in a hood who you only see once prior in beginning. Next Orga or whatever her name is at Biterbach Island says she was his "Pawn and beloved as well". Yet in the game you cannot make a Pawn your beloved as you can't give them the item to claim them as your beloved. Don't get me wrong I love Dragon Dogma as it's fun combat and interesting skills weapons armor and beasts. But the storyline wasn't much there. Characters you meet were not interesting. And the Pawn system was like trading cards of this slave class. Made me upset and put off by it.
@A-Duck10 жыл бұрын
No game has delivered on the fantasy of being an all powerful wizard like Dragon's Dogma did, at least to my knowledge. All the spells function uniquely, have situational uses, and offer a genuinely grand spectacle when the bigger spells are pulled off. Add this to how expansive and alive the world map is, how the colossal bosses function and feel, the clever story/lore, and you get a damn good game. 10/10, would mage again. PS: NO, fuck you Joe. The fast travel system in Dogma is perfect as it is, contributing scope and substance to the game's world. Every trek or quest feels like an *ACTUAL* fucking journey, conveying a sense of satisfaction and gravitas. Dogma's fast travel becomes more easily accessible as you progress in various ways within the game, lowing the cost of entry so as to open the world *naturally* in a more earned fashion. You feel good for EARNING your own convenience. This is a significant reason why Dark Souls 2's level design was received so poorly, widely regarded as utter trash in comparison to Dark Souls 1. It was designed such that simply _giving_ players instant access to the world was necessary, resulting in a lack luster, cheap, uninspired environment. It hurt the end product in meaningful, observable ways. Stop demanding we cater to casuals in every fucking game. It's a toxic practice, one that should be avoided in most cases. Just, stop.

@A-Duck10 жыл бұрын
Akio Which one? They are _slightly_ in Dark Souls 2, but not really given how easy spells are to dodge plus the stat investments they require, usually leaving mage builds with low health AND incapable of using decent armor. If any build is overpowered, it's the hybrids, but only at ludicrously high levels, at which point it barely matters. Though I will say magic seems to play a much larger role in DkS 2 than previous Souls games.

@BearyK88 жыл бұрын
?? I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Port crystals are permanent and with the PC version, you get an eternal ferrystone that can be used for no cost. They have you walk to a destination first to experience the trip there, and you get so many port crystals you can place them in the important places and cut down travelling times so significantly that these problems don't matter anymore. I think I have about 20 port crystals placed around my map and I'm only level 80 on my current playthrough. Honestly, I really don't understand how people have trouble with the fast travelling system that they've given us. It sounds like you guys want to fast travel to every location, similar to Skyrim or Oblivion, and I think that takes away from the experience entirely.

I found this game more enjoyable than Skyrim. At least its main quest was a lot of fun, felt natural (not so much on rails) and didn't feel anticlimactic, and the RPG mechanics were pretty deep. The attacks also looked great, they were really epic. I didn't find its color scheme dull at all; it's brownish sometimes, sure, but it's supposed to look warm, as though the game has its own warm climate. Many games look bluish or greenish - but this game looks pretty realistic when it comes to color temperature. Its nights are also frickin pitch black, not grey or blue. You can actually get disoriented, and the third person (which is very precise) makes the customization much more rewarding, because you can actually see your character and his/her weapon. Attacks and spells seem more punchy because of the third person, if you ask me. RPGs should be third person. And yeah, the presentation was amazing. The in-game music, the acting, the graphics, it was all amazing. It just shows how soundtracks and graphics can make games so much more atmospheric, and better overall. Western developers can learn a lot from Japanese developers. If this game had proper fast-travel and randomly spawning enemies, or maybe even random boss fights, this game would be a 9/10 for me, only being held back by its side quests, which are mainly fetch/kill quests.

THIS, the first time I made the "journey" to Bluemoon Tower to kill the Griffin was one of the most epic moments I had in my gaming life ever, it was more than 4 years ago and I still remember many notable moments like it was yesterday. It wasn't a flaw, it was one feature every good rpg should have at least for the first part of the game to really make you immerse your self in the game, AngryJoe just doesn't know how to enjoy a good rpg. It's not hard to understand why many people that play Skyrim disable with mods (Frostfall anyone?) or just don't use the fast travel system of the game, it breaks the immersion. When he said that the biggest flaw was its story and said about how the mc survived after the Dragon ripped his heart, I was like wtf is he saying, he really didn't pay ANY attention at all at the story, they literally explain what happened and how/why he survived, and the game really has a great story that is part of an even greater world and lore. So what we get is all the good parts like Joe said plus the "flaws" the aren't really flaws but additional strengths of the game, it is almost perfect and one of the best RPGs ever made.

The flaws that made it a controversial game is now fixed giving you 5 port crystals (teleporting places) where you can drop anywhere in the map to fast travel to PLUS the placed Portcrystals in Gran Soren and Cassardis. The stamina is still a problem although there are augment skills in the game wherein you can have less stamina drain for running. I played this game for hundreds of hours and I never really had a problem in the main game. If it was released as it was today it could’ve been the game of the year and be legendary. It’s a good rpg with mind-boggling character skills especially if you are a Sorcerer or Magickal Archer. The graphics of Dark Arisen is beautiful but not that top notch though as expected from an old but still excellent game. It is easily the best game for me. HOWEVER when your Arisen reaches the Bitterblack Isle beware for GRINDING FOR HOURS. The best equipment in the game is locked behind rng chests and my god the hours I spent farming the last boss with a bow that does about .40 of its health is hard. The game suddenly turns into dark souls when you enter that Island. It’ll kill you over and over again until you love it. Be sure to enter the island at least at level 50 I entered that island at level 41 and everything 1 shoted me. Now I’m a level 200 Assassin and I started a new play through in ps4 as a Magickal Archer and I still never get tired of the game. My pawn is a warrior, Serana and my character name is Arya (Magick Archer) if anyone wants to borrow her. I shall await you in the crucible of souls.

'released as it is today it would be game of the year'. Ehh I can't remember any games I cared about in 2012 but I don't see Dragon's Dogma Dark arisen fairing any better against Borderlands 2, Far cry 3 and Dishonored (I like Dishonored.) These games are very well polished with almost no serious mistakes, their biggest flaws being that they're not 'more' than they are. Dragon's dogma isn't a good RPG at all. I like the game and it is a good game but not a good roleplaying game. Dark arisen has average graphics for a 2008-2012 RPG even in it's enhanced version.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen contains the original game plus tons of improvements and a massive expansion, it also fixes most of Angry Joe's main gripes with the original game (lack of fast travel system, expensive ferry stone system, static enemy spawning, repetitive pawn AI voices, etc.) You still only get one save file though which sucks.

I think it's better than skyrim and dragon age. Get at me. But i love this game as equally as the Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 has great story but kind of a jank combat system like most RPG's, but Dragon's Dogma has a bad story but great combat system, unlike most..
@TheGoldenPS18 жыл бұрын
+Hannirc What I want to see from Dragon's Dogma II: fast travel, focused story in the narrative part, stylished character design towards iconic Capcom standards, running on UE4 for better environments and bring some new ideas to the battle system but keep the winning formula. And of course, a more epic OST in the vein of Dragon's Dogma Online. I think Capcom is now working on Monster Hunter 5 and Dragon's Dogma II at business division 2 as far as I have heard. Capcom make an commitment last year after DDO release to expand the Dragon's Dogma franchise like they have done with Monster Hunter. It could probably had to do with UE4. According to Epic Games Japan Capcom is using UE4 for several unannounced titles (DMC5? Onimusha? MHFO2? RE2 Remake? RE7? MH5? DDII?)
@ShibaShibaInuWoW8 жыл бұрын
+H.Brandt Eh? There was always fast travel in Dragon's Dogma... you just had to unlock it. With the PC now it's even easier to fast travel but imo in the past it was never a problem. I believe I had 7 port crystals placed all over Gransys, and a stockpile of ferrystones. Each one cost 20,000 which is expensive early game but by the time you reach lvl 100 you can make 700,000 in a matter of minutes. >_>

Kid Adult Going from their Capcom channel on youtube which is catering to the fans in Japan. And the committment from Capcom's boss Haruhiro Tsujimoto they are going to invest in in-house developments and move away from outsourcing and western influence. I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom take a more Japanese direction with Dragon's Dogma II and have a more stylished character design that will turn some off outside of Japan/Asia. I would be a bit worried for those who doesn't like that after what SCEJ's president Atsushi Morita who is a part of the close relationship with third parties and deals like Dragon Quest XI said they are approaching (Japanese) devevelopers (outside of first party) to offer a uniquely Japanese experience for the worldwide market.

I think TW3's world isn't very good. I think Dragon's dogma has a dramatically better world which I also don't find very good. I think TW3 has pretty average quest design, the writing is good but the quests are monotonous and most of the side quests aren't very substantial.
@Retro_Senses4 жыл бұрын
@@7dayspking simply put no, TW3 Side quest were really well done, like the prizefighting quest, maiden quest, even the monster hunting quest were all expertly written and woven into the systems present in the game. And the witcher 3 has some of the best world building in any game period, a bit lower than bioshock. The witcher 3 certainly has problems but its quest and world aren't it. Its the floaty animations and the insanely easy combat (even on death march)
@can_can91194 жыл бұрын
@@7dayspking I personally prefer TW3 side quests. Dragon's dogma has wayyy too many escort missions for my liking. I understand it's to further bond with that NPC but they often stopped out of nowhere and got themselves into danger to the point it became pretty annoying.
@7dayspking4 жыл бұрын
@@can_can9119 I agree TW3 has better side quests than Dragon's Dogma, just that TW3's are also pretty average. Although not everything about TW3's side quests are better than Dogma's. It is in Dragon's Dogma's favour that as your said they focus many of the quests on characters you can come to care about or interested to see where they lead.

I would love to see a Dragon's Dogma sequel. Personally, if they added horses or some fast-travel system other than the ferrystones and portcrystals and made the story more engaging, I think they could have a real winner on their hands. That, and proper multiplayer. Not tacked-on competitive multiplayer either, but a drop-in, drop-out style of cooperative multiplayer similar to that of Borderlands. I would much rather play with my friends than play with their A.I.-controlled pawns. I think the one thing I disagree with in this video, though, would have to be the complaint about having only one save file. I think it's completely in keeping with how unforgiving the game is. It kind of reminded me of how L.A. Noire only had one save file. I think having only one save file immerses you in the experience and forces you to carefully mull over the full repercussions of any decisions you make because you can't just reload an earlier save file if it didn't turn out how you wanted it to.

All of the "Bad" points he brings up are actually pretty fucking terrible. Having no fast travel forces you to actually enjoy the scenery, of which after you go to a place in Skyrim it's like WHELP NO MORE SCENERY ROUTES FOR ME which HIGHLY cuts down game time. Also, you need those respawn mobs to level up, or don't really, but you can easily run past them. EVERY game has the same spawn spots for mobs. Hell even MMO's have them. And he bitches about the pawns talking and saying the same things. yeah, and? At least they talk and have audio queue's. Skyrim is pretty much the same thing with the repetitive comments from partners. It's difficult in it's own right. Not a steam roll game until you get the hang of it. Not to mention, in the Original, NOT DDDA, I had plenty of ferrystones to move around. It's just blatant bitching to bitch here.

Dark Arisen did fix a lot of the issues, thankfully. The story in the DLC was an improvement, and the graphics looked a bit better to me. The lip synching didn't seem too bad either. I also managed to get my hands on a ton of port crystals which I put at every important location, allowing me to finish those overly long escort missions with ease (they could be somewhat fun to do, but they were held back by small rewards and retarded AI for the NPC being escorted.) I'm surprised Joe didn't mention the old issues with the romance...thing. He must've not gotten unlucky like 90% of the people who played the original, and wasn't forced to watch his Arisen get intimate with Absalam the transdimensional pimp. They changed the title song for Dark Arisen to something that makes me think of Dragon Age Origins. They didn't fix the pawns overuse of dialogue, but after I had to teach myself to ignore spoken dialogue whilst playing Star Ocean: The Last Hope, I found the pawns nowhere near as annoying. I actually got quite fond of my primary pawn, she saved my ass quite a few times, and didn't seem to talk as much as the others. Except for that one time a dragon possessed her and she royally kicked my ass.

You can choose your pawn exactly. And there are HUNDREDS of pawns for every single level, so you'll see almost every combination of power out there. Don't see a problem here. Not only that, but the pawns don't have access to all the classes, so there's less variety anyway.

Lee Louviere If Dragon's Dogma, Skyrim and Dark Souls were put on a Blendtec and made a single game the result to that would be Game of The History. It would set the bar so high that anyone looking forward to top it would have to get to the moon. Imagine a combat system like Dragon's Dogma's in a world as big and populated as Skyrim's. With Skyrim's Radiant Quests system, with the amount of side quest that Skyrim possesses. It has mounts and the combined creatures of Dragon's Dogma and Skyrim put together. With enemies as challenging and difficult as in Dark Souls. Nothing in the history of videogames would beat that.

Sami Rasheed My recommendations come from the top of the Nexus mods for the game though modding is a bit tricky since you have to "merge" many of them to make them all work. There are some that are already merged and many are nice to have different variations so you can pick a combination you would like. Here is a link to a really good combination already merged for you and with different optional mixes. Just pick the one you prefer. They aren't exactly game breaking either. You could go with this one mod and it would enhance your game quite a bit. For textures and graphics I think you need a graphics extender if I am not mistaken. www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma/mods/193/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fdragonsdogma%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D193&pUp=1 If you wish to merge your own your way, just google merging mods with Dragons Dogma. This game is honestly incredible. I started playing it a few weeks ago and while I had some issues with the fast travel and lack of a great story or characters, I got to say this game is still incredible: - Great and varied combat system for different styles of play. - A variety of vocations that can be switched at any point. (Strider, Warrior and Magical Archer are my favorites) - Boss battles that feel epic with huge monsters that will have you climbing them or using other methods to defeat them. - Great character customization - Beautiful cinematics (though I wish there were way more of them). - An amazing soundtrack, especially boss music. - Pawns are super useful. They do well in combat and are great support with enchanting your weapons, healing you and of course holding enemies for you to attack and they give helpful tips (what sucks is that they sometimes talk way too much and feel the need to announce anytime they see an enemy and will often repeat themselves during boss battles.)
