I agree with this take. Hell in Dark Souls or Demon Souls is for you to get bodied hard, often times there is no escape. Here you are not alone but watching your party get decimated along with you taking near fatal damage is very harrowing. This song either amps you up or it oppresses you (along with said creatures).

usually I go solo and normally with any fast responding class. and for the sake of feeling like im roleplaying I unequip certain weapons. Like for fighter/assassin I unequip the shield/bow to feel like a swordmaster, or for strider/ranger I unequip the daggers. I dont usually go dagger solo cause its too easy.

I just killed Eliminator and went downstairs of the Black Abbey when suddenly an Elder Ogre spawns on the bridge to the locked door. I thought it was going to be a though fight. But no. The thing charged at me, who stood on the edge of the bridge, failed, fell off the bridge, and died. It was my shortest fight in Bitterblack Isle.

Is Death the enemy that has a lot of health and can instantly put everyone to sleep? Because that's what happened to me the second time I ventured into the Island (the first time, I got destroyed by those wolves at the very beginning). Saw this large black,misty thing. It put my entire party to sleep. I was the only one that had a counter for it. When I'm back on my feet, I'm the only guy there. Haven't faced it since. Managed to make it to the Gorecyclopes before calling it a day (damn thing flattened me ).

Lieutenant Bootlace Yes my friend, that'll be Death. Not only does he have capped health, he also has the most resistances in the game alongside one other enemy (also encountered in BBI). I can kill him in one go these days by way of some nasty tactics. Get at least 1000 strength on your bow (I have 2800), then go Assassin class, get the Force Hatchet from the Black Cat in Gran Soren, buy Conqueror's Periapt's from Fournival also in Gran Soren, stack them 4x, hit Death 10x with the Force Hatchet, and then spamm away Fivefold Flurry with the bow with about 150 Blast Arrows or so... Seems like a lot of trouble, but trust me, it works. You'll stunlock the fucker to shit so badly he won't even be able to escape you, because normally he disappears after getting one healthbar down meaning you'll have to lure and fight him ten times before getting the kill. By the way this strategy works against any strong foe, including dragons and gorecyclopses. Best of luck man! It's an amazing game once you get stronger!

Heard the other version a lot, but after coming to Bitterblack and I find wolves, I'm thinking "they're joking right?" and they end up slaughtering my group, "Well shit... if these are the first enemies and they're kicking my ass, this area is no joke". Then I come to the area where Death shows up, "He's cool" then I see his health bars "We are so fucked..." Run away for a while, return to Bitterblack, Death doesn't show up. Then I come across that damnable massive wolf, he beats me every time I face him. Bitterblack is the best place to go when you wanna feel like you're in Dark Souls. I've beaten the Skeleton Warrior, beaten the wolves, beaten the Cockatrice, beaten that obnoxiously hard Beholder, I've killed several of the Drakes and the Ur-Dragon, but that damn massive wolf always manages to surprise & slaughter my group. But I still keep coming back for more, as hard and as terrifying Bitterblack is, it is the one place that never ever gets old. You'll never find more fulfillment anywhere else. Bitterblack promises to murder you, it promises to surprise you, but also promises to make you feel bad ass with every single victory. The Drakes in the normal part of the game are TRAINING WHEELS, Bitterblack is where the real game is at.

Fun fact, Death only has two attacks, one where he instantly puts your entire party to sleep, and a single Scythe attack, the Scythe attack will ALWAYS one-shot you and your Pawns no matter what, also if a Pawn is killed by Death you can't revive it

I had to fight an Eliminator while there was an elder ogre in the room. The fact that I was a lvl 56 warrior made it worse as I couldn't roll or block and I did shit dmg to the Eliminator without an enchantment. While I did manage to kill the Eliminator, the Elder Ogre killed me as my pawns were being useless and doing nothing.

I don't know if I would go so far than to say better then Dark Souls. Definitely better then the Artorias DLC. I'd say there are some rooms in Bitterblack that are harder then anything I've faced in Dark Souls though.

Nope!- Dark Bishop will absolutely cast Maelstrom sometimes _(particularly if you don't stop it from fusing with its Undead Dragon pet),_ and standing too near that- even if you're not in it directly- will have a Vortex effect that slowly draws you towards the AoE in proportion to your Weight in addition to continuously draining Stamina _(and, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a 1-hit kill what between it dealing ~10000+ Dark damage over the duration, the falling damage that follows all of that up preventing Magic Defense/Dark Resist cheesing it out, the fact that Dark Bishop will also follow up on that, etc.)_
