I was wandering around in that dungeon underneath Gran Soren once, while descending a massive stairwell with a drop deep enough I couldn't see the bottom, one of the Pawns that was following me around said something along the lines of "Careful Master, it's a LONG way down", then, with nary a pause or a tip of the hat, he jumps right off the ledge as if he was expecting to sprout wings and take flight, and instead fell to his death. "I'm not sure what just happened" was all I could think of.

I had the Darkest Faerie which was a Neopets game and had random non-sentient Neopets roaming the place that you could feed to make them follow you. I always felt so bad because I figured they were starving or something out there in the world of death that had jut come about and then couldn't actually feed them after they started following me because of a bug, so either way they starved!

+Lol94169 How many weaklings does it take to beat up a tough guy...enough so that he can't adequately attack them without being dog piled and pummeled. Still...pawns are some of the dumbest AI's...I made my first one to be this tiny thing so she wouldn't get hit all that often by archers or some of the bigger fucks I could see and made her a mage, 2 attack spells and two heal variants...standard set up for a support character. We go into some woods and lord behold ogres, two fucking ogres, they get enraged and start going nuts. I thought I'd be fine, I'm mystic knight, they can't do much to me in my bitchin armor I paid a massive sum of gold for at the rare goodies shop, thanks Darkness Arisen, and my great gear....and then...i got double drop kicked, then one tossed my dps sorcerer out of the picture, seriously they just hit him and he was gone, no scream no help me, just dead...fuck well my barbarian over there can..and he's been eaten... Well, time to go! I take off running to see my little mage, Tiffany, charging in shooting little energy bolts, they took acception to that the ogres did, she lets off a scream and just keeps going running towards them, thinking logically I yell are you trying to die faster than me!? Grabbed her up onto me shoulder pads and ran for my dear life...didn't stop till I was at the city gates with a fresh set of guards coming out. This tiny little thing charged two fucking ogres...that's some stupid bravery there that gets people killed, especially me, my one healer trying to fight 2 fucking ogres...fucking nutter.

It should be mentioned you can pretty much pick up any NPC.. Throw them over your shoulder, like an angry father dragging his teenage daughter away from a college party. Take them for an unwanted stroll while they kick and scream and then proceed to hurl them off of a bridge. Also my love interest turned out to be an old bald widow with a bad mustache. I did some quests babysitting his brat daughter. So the dragon thought we were an item and kidnapped his ass. After I saved him he decided to leave his daughter to elope with my hunky hero. Coming out of the closet did fit the character mind you. He was a flamboyantly dressed acrobat who showed little interest in the women he traveled with. I just wish he could have picked literally anyone else.

Yes I know this is a late comment but: there is no main love interest. Your character's love interest is whoever they spoke to the most. Or if you tried to avoid romancing anyone you get a completely random NPC, any NPC, no matter what.

True, but it's kind of hard to tell if you don't already know how the mechanics work. Especially since you can have multiple NPCs at highest affinity, and if you do, it defaults to the one last spoken to...which usually means Aelinore, since her final quest is pretty near the end. And the narrative really pushes her *hard* for some reason. Like, initially I kept getting this weirdass 12-year-old-looking white girl I knew for five minutes who went and got my stupid ass beaten and tortured King of Midland style and tossed into a dungeon, and I'm just like...OK, Capcom.

I ended up with the fucking blacksmith at the end. At first I didn't understand what the game was trying to do and I thought, "Oh fuck, the dragon is so clever he took away my source of good gear and weapon improvements". 10 minutes later I was dazed and confused as the suddenly all-too effeminate blacksmith was on his knees smiling gleefully and staring deeply into the eyes of my possessed body, now controlled by my once most loyal companion on the fucking beach, no less. It was an odd day.

Dragon's Dogma definitely had problems, but way the game feels is so good I was able to look past everything else because it was fun. I hope a sequel is possible, well Capcom did get a trademark for Dragon's Dogma Online but that doesn't sound like Dragon's Dogma 2 to me, and they can fix the problems that were in the first game.

@@MatheusSantos-vl4jx ok, so in DD, there are 9 classes, fighter, warrior, mystic knight, strider, assassin, archer, magik archer, mage, and sorcerer. Clothing, armor, and weapons are only divided by classes, for instance, magic robes could only be used by mystic knights, magik archers, mages, and sorcerers, stuff like that

Everyone always complains about pawns doing bad things. I very rarely experience, the stupidest thing my pawns has ever done was probably state the obvious "a chimera arisen!" while I'm being chewed on by it. Other than that, in terms of combat my pawn has been pretty Ace - the amount of times (when I was lower level) getting ganked by bandits and one was about to stab me and my pawn has just gone and shot him flying across the map is beyond count. XD And she always burns the hyrda's head etc; I have a good main pawn, well behave :p

My pawns all leapt off a cliff and committed suicide, when the only enemy was the complete other direction, 100m away, and running at me. Though when you fight the dragon at the end i turned into just keeping my sorcerer alive so she could do that lightning orb thing and do 1/4 of the dragons health instantly.

It does specificly tell you where to go to advance the plot, it just doesn't tell you how many quests you should be doing before hand if you don't wanna find out just how insane the Gryphon boss fight is if enemies can take off 80% of your health in a single swing and the Gryphon can kill you be breathing in your general direction. The only damn reason I won the fight was because of my black mage Nanako and her incredible ability to summon giant hurricanes and the guy I helped in another quest who proceeded to do the boss fight for me.

Dragon's Dogma is a very fun RPG, and even with the flaws that exist currently, it's great. I know some people complain about running everywhere, but that's sort of the point. You start out as a lowly adventurer, and through exploration and becoming a way better adventurer in general, you'll find yourself some rift stones, which let you fast travel around anywhere you slap them down. It's one of those games that's very much meant to be played past the first playthrough, it's intended for New Game + and beyond. Playing to max level after playing as a warrior, fighter, sorcerer, and finally Mystic Knight left me as a magical wall of fuck you. It was glorious.

I bought this game just because of the "climbing bosses" mechanic. reminded me of shadow of the collossus which is the best game ever. When I tried to play the game casually (1-4 hours a day after school) I really disliked it for it's, in a rather confusing way, non-linear design. But then I got sick for a few months and had time to play this game. And oh boy I did. The pawn system really is great once you realise how to use it properly. not only do pawns have abilities or items, they also have knowledge. Dont know where to go to find that magic book? Just pick a pawn from another player that allrdy found it. The search function in the pawn selection "dimension" thingy, enables you to look for specific quest knowledge. additionally, and I must warn u, minor SPOILER ahead, the pawn thing only makes sense when you played threw the whole game. of course they could've implemented random adventurer/mercenary companions but once you played the story to its end (or is there on?) it all makes sense. I recommend buying the stand alone expansion dark arisen. If u allrdy have the full game you get a few handy bonuses like an endless fasttravel stone. The expansions adds an extremly deep running dungeon with it's own story, items, monsters, etc. In the end, I'd say it's one of the best action-rpg's I ever played.

I am currently replaying it, beginning to end, with all the weird bits and sidequests. Only managed to do so once, and I felt it was the time to be back on it... I love this kind of games, but now I, unlike the firstime I played, silence pawns. Shame you cannot silence most non-cutscene voice acting, but they are masterworks all, you can't go wrong.

God, I loved the Pawn trade system in DD. I did the same thing Yahtzee did, even before I saw the review: I had a cool perfectly balanced male mage pawn, (and on another character) a strong well-equipped female warrior. But I decided to make a pretty boy bishie mage character for my main game that was also a support mage for the fuck of it. Turned out, my other characters weren't used at all by online users, but I got a respectable amount of users and gifts for my bishie character.

My biggest problem with this game is the absolute lack of control of the pawns. You get no ordering mechanic beyond yelling at them to follow you. IT could be so cool if you could direct them to certain positions then pulls a boss to them, but instead they always follow you then you have to run back to a good location spamming "follow me" to keep them from getting killed along the way.

I loved Dragon's Dogma. For being a new IP and not being budgeted or advertised the greatest, it was epic. Yes, the storytelling is not the greatest, but its not terrible. And the whole, the dragon stole your heart thing, was cool. The gameplay is pretty solid, the boss fights are epic (especially with the fact that it takes the damage system very serious so if you, for example, damage a Griffon's wings allot it will soon be unable to fly, or hitting a Cyclopes' hand enough causes it to drop its club) and the extensive character creation and customization. It's not perfect, but it was very entertaining. But seriously, that j-pop theme is terrible!

i did quite enjoy this game, i found beating up monsters fun, combat was fun. hated all the npcs but i usualy hate all npcs. only thing that made me hate the game for about a day was that i got a pawn that was so bad i ended up grabbing him and throwing him strait off a cliff. his stats where alright for my level, his gear was ok, but when we left the rift all he did was complain and whine after every battle and overall just dident do shit. whoever made a pink haired warrior named gary, sleep with one eye open.

The companion Pawn that I made for my last playthrough of this game was a little dark haired sorcerer girl because I was rather unironically trying to recreate the main party from the anime Konosuba. Thing is, she always brought me back amazing gifts from the other players that I was apparently renting her out to. So either not-Megumin was an absolute freak in the sheets that was down for literally anything, or DDDAs player base is predominantly filled with anime fans.

Given that it's not intuitive how the game presents its mechanics it's still a very remarkable rpg, best I've played on the PS3 too. I had to look up some locations and quest information when I had an npc permanently dead in an escort because it's never indicated how tough the quest is for my level. It also turns out the behavior of the pawn can be influenced by the actions you make during gameplay. I ended up with a "guardian" mage which seems to be universally known among the fans to be the worst attribute to have as it makes the pawn useless.

I don't think yatzee's review of this game was entirely fair. I understand his main selling point is his brutal honesty and hilarious assessments of core game mechanics, but I had a genuinely good experience with this game. I started out as a skeptic and didn't think it would be as good as it was when I first bought it, but as I played through the game, Iit quickly won me over. Pawns are only retarded if they are untrained. You can managed the behaviors of your pawns inside of inns, and even silence them indefinitely. The plot, after one or two playthroughs (I'm not afraid to admit it confused the hell out of me first time 'round) actually struck me as very unique in a sort of inception-y matrix-y blend of fantasy and hardcore DnD epic level roleplay. After I understood what the hell was occurring the plot really began to make sense. Its a reflection of dark souls, minus the ticking clock, but a similar goal in attempting to preserve the world. And the love interests are actually anyone you get to like you enough. I ended up getting aelinore after my second play through because of how much I would stalk- I mean talk to her.

Rolf Sæ They're one of the top 50 best selling artists of all time, that's undeniable, and they've got CERTIFIED sales that rival the likes of Metallica and Bon Jovi. Coldplay don't have anywhere near the same number of certified sales, claimed sales mean nothing. Of course Zepplin and Elvis have sold many more albums than B'z, they're global icons, vs. B'z who're Japanese icons. Hell, they're like top 5 best sellers Elvis and Zep are. Also, since Adele and Katy Perry have sold similar amounts to The Doors, Foreigner and Van Halen that we should insult them and discredit them because "they're not good enough to beat mainstream pop music"? I mean, I hate Coldplay as much as the next person, but just because they've got incredibly good sales doesn't mean we should discredit other artists in that bracket. Heck, you'd take out classic rock as you know it by doing that, music is more accessible today than it has ever been, it's only logical that modern pop artists are selling as much as classic artists that saw global success. Either way, point of my comment was, he gave the impression he thought they were nobodies, which is the exact opposite of what they are. I love how i researched Dragon's Dogma romance system so I could pick my own, and choose Quina to live out my Braveheart fantasy. But I deliberately made my character look like a young teenage girl, because I loved the idea of the stalwart hero of the land looking like a fourteen girl I designed to look like Elsa from Frozen hahahaha It made for some funny romance scenes I tell you that! I see I'm not the only person who made a Main Pawn that's the hero's polar opposite. I started recently (finally got around to some of my backlog) and am playing a skinny frail guy who is REALLY not confident that destiny picked the right guy, and so I made my pawn the biggest beefiest dude imaginable. I like to imagine that people seeing them walk down the street would be like "Oh man, look at that hero of all the land, he's a huge beefy heroic looking chap isn't h-....Wait, it's the scrawny shy dude?!" Or I WOULD imagine that, but it seems like everyone in the world of dragon's dogma is completely and comically inept. Soldiers? Complete dunces who get whupped in seconds. My big beefy super confident pawn? Gets pinned down by wolves in his first real fight, needing scrawny McFisherman to save him. The soldier dude who gives you basic training? Also a dunce. I feel like my character is slowly starting to think "Oh my GOD am I the only half-intelligent person in this world? It's a good thing that destiny picked me, or the world would be fucking doomed!"

dragons dogma has an annoying leveling system. the stats you get are based on the vocation you are currently using, and to be the best you can you need to switch between 2 or more vocations while leveling. making a warrior? don't forget to take 10 lvls in ranger and 21 in fighter. this would be okay if it was like dark souls or skyrim in which you choose when to advance to the next level. it would also be nice to have the ability to switch vocations on the go rather than at an inn, or at-least to be able to switch them at the BEGINNING OF THE FUCKING GAME. wanna switch vocations? well here's how you do it, do some missions that lead to killing 2 boss monsters (one right after the other) then do an escort mission (everyone's favorite) through a canyon where you will be forced to fight multiple monsters,beasts, and bandits which will probably get you above lvl 10, BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO GO ABOVE LEVEL 10 BEFORE SWITCHING OUT TO A NEW VOCATION. basically to have any semblance of a good build you have to do as little before getting to the first big city as possible, and any game where you have to hold back from killing monsters and appeasing the niggling voice in the back of your head is just not a game i can get behind.

If you had Dark Arisen you could change vocations by talking to Olra at the Bitterblack Isle expansion as soon as you get your main pawn. Otherwise yes, vanilla had the problem which you speak of.
