I’m redoing a crib for my bestie. The based colors are “ocean” and “lagoon” chalk paint. I need some sort of *pop* that wasn’t too…much, ya know? SO I’m driving down Hwy 17 during the annual “Mustang Week” and see a color shift painted 80’s model (pretty sweet tbh). EUREKA!! Off the the Wallyworld craft section!! And I grab some of both of these!!! The SAME two you used!!! I’m dry brushing the color shift all over and I’ll accent the edges and some spotts with the dragonfly glaze. So far it looking amazing. Thanks SO much for this video!!!!

It looks really cool if you use a different color on top of the color shift....I've got a client, that loves the color shift, and I painted a dresser, yes, a full size dresser with the green, after a few thousand dollars, then I used a more purple dragon fly.....and it was gorgeous! I had ppl stop and offer me very good money for that dresser! I work out of my garage.

Found this video while searching for info on Color Shift paint. Not sure its fair to compare the two products because they're two separate mediums. A glaze is applied on top of paint. Its not meant to be a base color like paint. They're not designed to be used the same.

If it is a clear top coat, it should be ok. These glazes are top coats though so you don't need to seal them for indoor use.

I just bought dragonfly paint and after watching this video, I'm bringing it back. I did not see any color shift or shimmering in this video. And from what others have said, they didn't either. I like the color shift paint so I'll return this dragonfly for that. Sigh, I had such high hopes for this dragonfly for my wands.

It's important to know that the Dragonfly Glaze is a top-coat, not a paint, so it won't give you coverage -- just shimmer.
@iLitAfuseiCantStop4 жыл бұрын
Dragonfly glaze DOES WORK! You just need to remember... A) MOST IMPORTANTLY MIX IT WELL! The pigments settle to the bottom so you need to stir/shake/mix it very well. B) ITS A TOP COAT NOT A CLASSIC PAINT meaning you have to put it on top of another color. Also, putting it on black vs white will give you two different results. Also the larger the surface the more you will notice the color difference because theres more space for the light to hit it differently & if you paint something other than just a flat surface you'll notice it more too. Also, video doesnt pick it up as well as seeing it with your own eyes!
@melonyfossing528 Жыл бұрын
Dragonfly glaze is gorgeous but it is not paint. It is a glaze. It is meant to be used over either black or a base color. Also you can NOT see the shift in color on video. The pictures I take of my art created with it do not look nearly as beautiful as seeing the art in person. It looks the most beautiful over black paint/base.

I'm team dragonfly glaze. I use craft paint a little differently than most do. I thin it down and run it through an airbrush. Dragonfly glaze is just so much easier to get the right consistency for an airbrush. And the results are quite amazing.

If your getting visible brush strokes you just have to thin it water will do fine but flow aid is better. Also using cheap paint and brushes does of course limit your final results. A starter set of 10 colors of actual artist paints is enough to mix any color. If your not painting canvas you want fluid acrylic not heavy body. Basic makes ok one's but golden has the best but there expensive

Hey... I mixed with flood floetrol. I do 50/50 and it will 100% get rid of the lines. That's the whole point of the stuff and it's worked fine for me every single time. It'll make it smoother than the baby's butt and it won't interfere with the color shifting technology because it is also clear when it dries and a mix perfectly together

I shot it yesterday. The Blue/Green/Gold. I used my Mr. Hobby ProCon PS-290 with the round head (versus the fan cap) and a .5mm needle. Sprayed at 22 psi. I sprayed it over a white, gray, and gloss black primed spoons. The white was almost translucent, but you could see the sparkles and very light shading of purple. The gray was like a light green, and the black was almost an emerald color. Very deep. I did end up with sparkles all over my paint booth though. Luckily I put down paper on the bottom to help with overspray. I did thin the paint out almost 50/50 with windshield wiper fluid (no ammonia!). I also used the same method for the Black Flash Color Shift and surprisingly the one over the white primer turned out the darkest of the three. The key to thinning is to make it really thin, then mist the first couple of coats before applying heavier layers. Personally, I wouldn't shoot it with less than a .5mm needle, and next time I use it, I'm going to bump up the psi to at least 25, maybe as high as 30. At 22, it seemed to struggle a bit, but that is my compressor I'm sure. I have a new one coming in that has an auxiliary tank. Hope this helps. 🙂

🤔 If you mix them they would go on opaque and metallic with the shimmer? Maybe mixing a more purple dragonfly with the aqua colorshift would look nice. Would the dragonfly get eaten up by the colorshift and lose the shimmer, or dilute it enough so it wasn't opaque enough to cover the canvas? I was going to try an aurora with the colorshift tomorrow night but was wanting more of a shimmer and not quite sure how shimmery it would look without adding anything. I do have an iridescent pearl I could add but maybe it would make it too light:/

You can't compare the two. They are completely different mediums. Dragonfly Color Shift is a GLAZE. It shifts the most on black base, where you can easily see all 3 colors ( it is NOT easily visible in pictures or videos)And it complements when used over a color that is one of the three color in each bottle. The other paint is a pearlescent type paint to be used as the base color. It has a slight color shift, but nothing compared to the dragonfly glaze on black base color.

Make sure that the underlayer of paint is fully dry/cured before applying the glaze. Use thin coats and let each coat fully dry before adding another. I hope this helps!
@jonathanbyrd12 Жыл бұрын
You can't really compare those two colors because or because they're both separate genres. Dragon fly does not do the same thing as color shifting paint color shifting changes from one color to another and there's multiple different genres in that group, right? They have like 15 different ones. Dragonfly does more than just change colors. It changes multiple colors and it's a glaze that only works on top of other paints. You can use color shift by itself without paint. They're not in the same category. They're not even the same product. They're two different types of color shifting color. Changing paint. Dragonfly is way more advanced color shifting paint than the color shifting paint line.

No it doesn’t. The mica particles in the glaze are different colours. They have one in the range that does have a rainbow iridescence, however it , like all the range, is MEANT to show the base colour under it, and to just give a colour shifting shimmer effect. To show the full range of the iridescence it needs to be used on black or a dark colour.
