Random story: I was at a Joe Satriani concert back in maybe 2007 or 2008 and I was in the lobby grabbing a drink. My cousin and I saw this Asian guy standing in line and wasn’t sure if it was Herman Li or not. I told it wasn’t him because his hair was too short. Right after I said that, Herman took his hair out of his jacket and boom, I knew it was him. I went up to him and asked for his autograph and he was so cool and gave it to me. People started to form a line after that, whoops.. At the end of the concert, I wasn’t even old enough to drive, I called my mom to come pick me up. While I’m on the phone with my mom, Herman comes up to me and says “ do you want to meet Joe Sateiani?” . I was co fused at first but I said yes. He then told his groupies, these two chicks, “ girls, give them Your back stage passes”. I then went back stage and met Joe Satriani and his band....I’ll never forget that day.

I think Kiko has the best left hand efficiency of any guitarist I've ever seen. It's truly a joy to watch him play. Been a fan since approx. Hunters and Prey era, and I never get tired of him. He seems like such a lovely person too!

I agree. His left fingers look like they're glued to the fretboard. Many other great guitarists from all genres (like Di Meola, Vai, Metheny, Gambale, Petrucci or even Govan) don't have such hand efficiency (but they still can play amazingly of course). John McLaughlin is the only other guitarist I can think of whose fingers also look like they're glued to the fretboard.

Great shred talk! As Kiko says, every guitarist should learn to how tune their instrument by ear. My tutor taught me how to do it by using harmonics which works well. Keep rockin' guys.

Honestly having witnessed his incredible playing live, I can see they are a match made in heaven. Frankly, at this point, I just hope they are having an awesome time because I'd like this lineup to become the longest ever (or definitive) and also because it's really well earned. Especially since Kiko still has his own stuff :)

In my opinion, the thing that stopped Herman Li from getting better was he limited himself to only one genre of music, just like what Malmsteen did years ago. Whereas Kiko on the other hand, I'm sure he can play jazz, fusion, flamenco, and etc if you asked him to. I mean there's absolutely nothing wrong with power metal or speed metal, but you can only go so far or do so much with it, and after a while it gets boring. Whereas guys like Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, and etc are much more interesting to listen to.

Funnily enough, that's where I met Herman too, in WOA 2001 in the backstage area! I was wearing a Mike Portnoy FC T-shirt, he was the dude with the long hair everyone was taking pictures with, and we started talking like two DT fans attract each other in the middle of a true metal storm of a festival like WOA.
