Trish Daswaney, a beauty entrepreneur whose tools have a social and a practical purpose was launched in 2018 with its Flex Collection of five bendy, easy-to-grip makeup brushes for customers affected by motor function issues, but what will the Dragons think of her market research?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

To be honest, her pitch in the lift was more powerful than what she said in front of them.
@melmc3306
@melmc3306 2 жыл бұрын
This pitch was just a cringe-fest from start to finish. By her calculations, these islands should be rapidly sinking into the sea under the weight of all these bodies!!! Also, the whole “I don’t see gender, colour, race, I just see people” thing....well, okay, perhaps that’s a nice sentiment in some kind of utopian paradise and before anyone jumps on me, this doesn’t mean I don’t believe in equality for all. But in reality we are all individuals and it’s things like race, colour, gender, sexuality, nationality which will affect the experiences you have in life and therefore make you the person you are. These aren’t things which can be simply swept aside- however good her brushes are! 🤣
@kevinbissinger
@kevinbissinger 2 жыл бұрын
yeah, but those experiences are all still 100% unique to each individual, and making assumptions based on race will be wrong 90% of the time. The number of times someone in my state has talked to a native african about african american culture and slavery as though all black people in america mustve been descended from American slaves would blow your mind.
@xkimxangelx
@xkimxangelx 2 жыл бұрын
The other point about this is that all these things (race, gender, sexuality, etc.) affect the nature of the market. Different products are pitched to different demographic groups. Men's suits, for example, are targeted at men not women. Nationality affects cultural attitudes, which have a huge influence on what people want to buy. That's why you can't ignore demographics in creating products, doing market research etc. This woman's idea about uniformity - everybody being the same - is probably what led her to mess up her numbers. The population of the UK probably felt irrelevant to her, if she sees demographics as unimportant. When she came out of the den, she said she wasn't expecting to be asked questions about the market. She clearly hadn't done any market research; rather, she thought her ethos of equality would propel her to success.

Well, she's still going strong with Kohl Kreatives. It appears the set of 5 brushes is the only thing available via retail purchase (currently $63.00 for the set). She has set the company up as a nonprofit -- that has definitely changed since her time in DD. She was born to Indian parents but raised in Hong Kong. Given that she needed a Dragon's investment in order to have inventory to sell and based upon her back stories available online and changing to a non-profit, I'm getting the impression that she may have had family resources to get her company off and running.

I just think, who are these people. They applied to go on this show, don't they watch it at all? How can they think their build is going to be any different to the 20 year history of builders that have already been on the show. It's kind of infuriating, but also funny.

...um...I don't think 'nice' is the number one quality needed for entrepreneurs. Also, because she kept changing her numbers, I have no faith that those brushes are actually eco-friendly or recycled or whatever. She would have to bring me to the factory they are made in and show me. There would be a higher unit cost than 20p if they were made from recycled materials because of the sorting that she mentioned and the sterilization and whatnot. I'm not saying she's lying, I'm just not convinced she's 100% accurate.
