Dragy 10hz GPS lap timer vs Phone GPS Comparison

I was curious what the real world difference in lap times would be between the Dragy 10hz external GPS lap timer, vs the 1hz internal GPS of a phone. So I decided to put it to the test in this video!

Hey! Thank you for this comparison, it’s really helpful. Do you think for the amateur (1st season on the real track) it would be enough to just buy a RaceChrono App and use it just with iPhone 12pro? Are there any disadvantages of using just an app (apart from several tens of second difference) in front of using an external GPS module (like Dragy or Racebox). For example, will it still be possible to upload the GPS data from iPhone to TrackAddict soft (or similar) to create movies with race interface?

You’ll still be able to use all the functions of race chrono. Lap times will just be less accurate.

@@WillsGarageOfficial thanks! TBH couple of tens of a second from 1 lap sounds quite Ok for me to start with, so I’ll continue with this option probably just to check it out ;)

@@ndrspbits ok for the first few track days. But I think the speed and location on the track map could be less accurate. I think once you’re at the 10-20 track days mark, it’s not a bad idea to use a higher frequency external GPS.

@@155stw yeah, indeed… after few first sessions I realised that I really want (and need) to have at least 10hz external GPS sensor. And now I have Dragy ;) It turned out that Dragy can not be connected to RaceChrono lol. Though I downloaded DragyLap and it’s good enough to continue with. And has much better UI in comparison to RaceChrono. Thanks;)

I got a Racebox Mini S for a motorcycle and it does 25hz with the option to do 10 for space saving in the internal storage but I'm sitting here like, uhh isn't 10 really good? xD 25 sounds insane. 1hz on a phone or camera GPS (like with the Insta360 GPS remote) is awful. 1/sec leaves too much of a gap in the data to be useful. It's still fun though to get a ballpark if that's all you got.
