After boating for 10 years, I finally made that mistake last week of forgetting to put my drain plug in. The good thing is I realized it before pulling the trailer out of the water and quickly put the boat back on it and got it out and put the plug in and felt like a complete horse ass the entire time

I always kept my drain plug and wrench in the left side rear cup holder. Trained myself to put in the plug before removing the rear tie downs. Then put the wrench in the driverside front floorboard after parking the truck. That made me remember to pull the plug when pulling the boat out.

​@@DonziGT230 still doesnt hurt to have a visual reminder of sorts to check em. When im draining oil on a project vehicle of mine that may sit for a while, i got post it notes and tags wired to all sorts of stuff like the ignition, wheel, and even the fill cap. Saying "check drain plug ya dummy" (on the filler cap), and "check oil level before starting" all in bold sharpie taped to the wheel or wired across my ignition slot. Notes and checklists go a very long way, costs as much as a pice of paper and a pencil, and may save you thousands in damages or salvage fees.

These videos are great. The proper way to do it is to have somebody with you that back a trailer. The captain is in the boat, the friend backs it in until the boat floats and the captain backs it off. The friend then goes and parks the truck and trailer. The captain then brings the boat back to the dock and loads everyone up. Practice, practice, practice backing a trailer before you get to the ramp.

Almost, first you prep and load the boat. Do things like install the drain plugs and load gear/supplies before you get to the ramp. That way when you get to the ramp all you're doing is launching your boat quickly and clearing the ramp so another boater can use it.

That happened to my dad once. The boat started filling up with water as he was backing it down the ramp. The water filling the boat made it heavier and my dad had trouble pulling the trailer back out of the water. Lesson learned

BG, I took some buddies bass fishing in Maine. We switched lakes at lunchtime and I pulled the drain plug to get rid of some morning rainwater in the boat. We launched at the second lake. A buddy is standing on the dock eating a sub. He asks, is there supposed to be that much water in the boat? You guessed it BG.

Hes one of the few people ive seen hold a bow line from the dock without just letting it go at the first sign of tension or the stern drifting out lol. Seen countless people holding a line and drop it in a panic when the bow or stern opposite of the line they're holding drifts away a bit.

I was gonna say at the opening U-Haul new jet boat, they definitely forgot the plug! I can’t hate my first time taking my uncle and cousins out on my uncles boat which I ran he didn’t run it, I forgot the plug. I had no help though and I was only 18yrs old! We lifted back out put the plug in and went fishing!

I done this once but I was launching alone and got the boat floating still had my dock line in my hand then it hit me and I remembered that I dident put the pugs in and I was still lined up with the trailer so I just jacked it back on if I would have tied it off and parked the truck it would have sunk right there. This is the scariest thing about boating I think is just forgetting that one thing and boom

I had this same boat a few years ago. Jet boats can be kind of squirrely. Always winched them on the boat trailer and pushed off from the dock before starting the engine otherwise things like this happen.

You don't have to pull boat out of the water for the plug. Put the plug in, and remove it when under way. The water will drain out.
