Draining oil catch can after 5000 miles since install. I'm emptying oil catch can to help answer the question is oil catch can necessary or is an oil catch can really needed? Also to see how much oil in catch can. Is an oil catch can worth it? GDI engine intake valves are notorious for intake valve build up fro the oil coming from the PCV valve system. Procedure is done on a 2013 - 2017 Honda Accord.

Hey man good video as always. A tip though... Put steel dish scrubber instead of that brass filter. It restricts blowby gas flow so much that you're better off without it.

Do you have a video that shows how and were to install a catch can for a 2015 Ford F-150 with the 3.5 V6 turbo charged to be exact ?

Negative sir! Believe it or not, I've never opened the hood of a Ford! By principle, I just avoid the exhaust side of the engine and place it any of the cooler parts of the engine bay where it can be anchored. Thanks for watching!

Ever looked at the intake valves? Since Toyota/Lexus implements direct + multiport injection on some of there models, they won't suffer as much as GDI only engines. Either way, I think a catch can is a good addition since it limits oil contamination on the catalytic converter in the long run.

@DIYAutoworksNG My engine is GDI only. No port injection unfortunately. I'm just concerned about vacuum leaks after installing catch can...

@liquidh5226 I'd install ASAP. Just get good clamps. That would sort leaks.

Was checking my pcv valve this morning to plan the catch can install. Realised that the hose connecting my PVC valve cracked and caused a minor vacuum leak! I used some duct tape for temporary measure and my long term fuel trims dropped from +7% to near zero! No wonder my fuel economy has been rather poor in recent months!

Ever replaced the fluid? It could be worn out fluid, bad power steering pump or a bad steering rack.

You should send off the next batch of caught oil to see how much gasoline is in it! These engines are having trouble with oil dilution then that in turn burns out the rings. Someone t boned my 7th gen Honda, I was thinking about buying a 2016 or 2017 Accord but started reading the recall and lawsuits going on with Honda. Im not a fan of how the 2019-2022 Honda look and prices are far too high for a new one. How do you like your 2017??

Good idea on sending the oil for analysis. Too bad I've dumped this one. So far, I'm enjoying the car. I don't also like the look of the 10th gen Accord. What I've noticed about the 9th Gen is that due to the CVT the revs are not as high except you're driving in Sport mode. Doing some high rev driving keeps carbon build up at bay.

@@DIYAutoworksNG Im honestly thinking about going to a Toyota Camry. I really like Honda cars but once you start digging into the problems of this "earth dreams" nonsense it gets worrying. If you get a chance, look into the class action lawsuit Honda has against them and the recall of 250k different Hondas. I guess they've known since 2018 that this oil dilution stuff has been happening. I suppose a lot could have to do with people not changing their oil properly. It just seems as though Toyota is not as wrapped up in this whole save the planet nonsense. Im currently looking at a 22' Camry, they seem to last forever plus I like the look Camry has going. The new 2024 Accord looks a lot better that the 19-23 models tho.

We are both aligned! I love the look of the 11th gen Accord. In the end, I'd say follow your heart. It's always important to get what you want. I'll look into the Honda class action lawsuit and see. Thanks for suggesting!

@@DIYAutoworksNG yeah, next time you clean out your catch can, send it off to that company that checks motor oil. Specify that you want to check for dilution caused by fuel tho.
