Good Works Tractors did a video a while back addressing his commercial approach. He did say his videos were made to promote his businesses, with his version of "practical" content to support his goal of sales. You just have to decide what you want to take in. This isn't to defend him...I just happened to first see his disclsimer early on, and glean through all YT videos for my interests and questions on projects. One of the first tractoring channels I ever saw when I was getting a new tractor and implements was TTWT. While I don't farm big acreage, I found ag videos interesting. By that same token, I have no need to soup up a 1025R with hydraulic pumps and turbos...I pick and choose. That's how YT is, and it has a very large monetization component, so pick whether the presentations fit your sensibilities and needs. Monetization doesn't mean the creator is always doing a sales pitch...TTWT is a best example. Just have to glean. Keep up your efforts, Tim. 👍🏻👍🏻

I grew up on a farm in NJ, back when it truly was the garden state. Our frame was 63 acres. We had a 50x 200 ft pond with about 25 springs to keep it full plus drainage ditch in and a discharge stream. It had filled in over time so my dad hired a drag line to dig it to about 20 ft depth. We had a v8 irrigation pump that could run four 200 yard lines at once. Only one time during a bad drought did we pull the pond down by running 24 hrs a day. It is not good for the springs to run the pond down so my dad asked the neighbor who used an artesian well for irrigation to help and he ran his pump into the drainage ditch witch fed our pond and filled it back up. You need a drag line.

I filled in a 1/2 acre ravine in 2017 and it was graded and seeded. It took better than two years before I had a good stand of grass. Pelletized lime, some fertilizer, God's rain and...... patience! You will be mowing that lawn regularly before you know it. Chris Gunn, Letsdigit18, does a fine job lining his ponds with clay. Renting a good size excavator for a week or less will be good video material. You are very capable.... and you do it! Best wishes.

With the foot valve: if you tie it onto a 5gal barrel with a short length of wire or rope, you can then push it into the deepest part of the pond and suck cleaner water for longer. It will float just below the surface and won't get clogged in mud, so you won't have to mess with it as often. A rope tied to the foot valve and back to the shore is also a good idea for if any of the camlocks work loose so you don't have to go swimming to retrieve the foot valve.

I have google and everyone out there who wants to sell me a product can make a video to inform me about it it. I have Drained a bunch of ponds to clean the sediment out. (landfill runoff retention Ponds) You can tie a couple gallon jugs to float your foot valves (set 2 or 3 feet below the surface), then tie a long rope to it, then you can drag foot valve to the deepest part from the other side.. a five gallon with holes or slits over the foot basket will keep the big muck from clogging the screen as fast...
@drich6816 Жыл бұрын
Where did you get the sprinkler from?
@photocontrol Жыл бұрын
Good setup with the pump and sprinkler. Nice to be able to make use of all that water rather than going into the drain pipe. You should get about 35 PSI with the trash pump which runs the sprinkler well. I have a high pressure fire pump which is capable of producing 85 PSI.
@danimal1611 Жыл бұрын
One additional thing to consider about a well done large pond, you may benefit insurance wise for fire protection. If you have 20,000+ gallons accessible to your FD in an area without municipal water supply it increases property protection. Something to check into at least. Now if you’re going to get municipal water from the housing development, a pond is just landscaping.

Tim, about the irrigation… once the lawn becomes established you should have no problem with a pond. Growing up we had 8 acres with a pond, 2 acres mowed and trees and shrubs and plants with gardens all with automated watering. All the watering came from a pump house from the pond which was required by local laws due to the septic.

Keep the pond if you can. Heck maybe expand the pond since you have quite a lot of land, put a little boat dock and pergolas / pavillion over a nice concrete surface. I love spending other people's money. ha,ha Not that you need them or want to but I'd install pressure gauges on the suction and discharge of the pump as well as a gauge up by the sprinkler nozzle. Good info for understanding the pump curves and nozzle. This video reminds me of my previous job where our contractor would run a 3-point Crisafulli pump on their John Deere 3 or 4 series. Transferring water from one cell to the other. The only thing that tractor did was run that pump. I bet I watched it transfer water for over 10 years. To clean ponds our contractor used a long reach excavator. They also had a good dozer operator who could shape the sides and do any finish work if needed. For some of our lined ponds we used a drudge and left about 6" on the bottom. Some of them we put a chemical in them to kill the algae.
