I'm of the opinion Kanye chose not to release the track because he recognized his beef with Drake was small-ball shit and wasn't worth dragging down Donda but he was far enough into mastering he didn't have time to go back and bring something on the level Andre did. I know there's an original verse, but we know when Kanye starts feeling disaffected with something his first impulse is to drop [abandon] it even if there's a good version of it he still has - see Yandhi. I can relate a lot, I'm bipolar too and sometimes I just delete a couple chapters of whatever I'm working on just because I hate it in the moment and need to clear the slate so I can move on. He did the right thing and didn't release the track. I think the more critical part of Drake leaking the song is that Kanye probably didn't like the song in its current state and Drake leaking it before he could re-record a verse without dipping into the Drake bullshit was his way of trying to get Andre 3000 to think less of Kanye, which is something Kanye actually cares about.

I think Drake leaked it so everyone knows how much Kanye's features on Donda carried, and because he respects 3K enough obviously to want people to hear his legendary verse. Andre literally gave Kanye a free lay-up to talk about DONDA, not name drop Drake and derail the entire song. It shows how much Ye still hasn't healed from his mother's loss, and it's honestly a little gross to me that he named his whole LP after her and barely mentions her at all on the record.

It was warmer and more in line with 3K's verse - this is confirmed by Tyler the Creator and the original/real version that was played in the Las Vegas listening party. My take is that Drake was trying to get ahead of what may have been coming to him. I.E. Kanye holding off on this track to use the verse on Push's album. Or just to let people know why he had some bars against Ye on his album. Whatever it is, I also don't think that Kanye was acting as a saint by just scrapping the song. If I were Kanye, I would have removed the diss and kept the song clean, pure and about their mothers, especially knowing what a beautiful verse Andre 3000 had and knowing that the CD was about DONDA! Either way, we don't know the extent of this beef and of the context here, but I am sure that Kanye and Drake, as petty as they are acting, both heavily respect Andre 3000. I hope that we hear more beautiful music from him. And I am sooooo tired of the Ye/Drake beef. Can we just get a fire collab and move on with life?!
